Sustainability Assessment Of Concrete Bridge Deck Designs In Coastal Environments Using Neutrosophic Criteria Weights written by Ignacio J. Navarro and has been published by Infinite Study this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on with Mathematics categories.

Essential infrastructures such as bridges are designed to provide a long-lasting and intergenerational functionality. In those cases, sustainability becomes of paramount importance when the infrastructure is exposed to aggressive environments, which can jeopardise their durability and lead to significant maintenance demands. The assessment of sustainability is however often complex and uncertain. The present study assesses the sustainability performance of 16 alternative designs of a concrete bridge deck in a coastal environment on the basis of a neutrosophic group analytic hierarchy process (AHP). The use of neutrosophic logic in the field of multi-criteria decision-making, as a generalisation of the widely used fuzzy logic, allows for a proper capture of the vagueness and uncertainties of the judgements emitted by the decision-makers. TOPSIS technique is then used to aggregate the different sustainability criteria. From the results, it is derived that only the simultaneous consideration of the economic, environmental and social life cycle impacts of a design shall lead to adequate sustainable designs. Choices made based on the optimality of a design in only some of the sustainability pillars will lead to erroneous conclusions. The use of concrete with silica fume has resulted in a sustainability performance of 46.3% better than conventional concrete designs.

Performance Based Specifications And Control Of Concrete Durability written by Hans Beushausen and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-09-24 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This work gives an overview of significant research from recent years concerning performance-based design and quality control for concrete durability and its implementation. In engineering practice, performance approaches are often still used in combination with prescriptive requirements. This is largely because, for most durability test methods, sufficient practical experience still has to be gained before engineers and owners are prepared to fully rely on them. This book, compiled by RILEM TC 230-PSC, is intended to assist efforts to successfully build the foundation for the full implementation of performance-based approaches through the exchange of relevant knowledge and experience between researchers and practitioners worldwide.

Climate change is anticipated to have a major impact on concrete structures through increasing rates of deterioration and the impact of extreme weather events. The repair of any damage will be highly labor-intensive and expensive. Self-healing cementitious materials can enable the construction industry to mitigate these effects and move toward greater sustainability, safety, and increased cost savings and efficiency. This book: Examines concrete structures based on various materials with self-repair capability and their implications for future use in sustainable projects. Discusses advantages and design strategies of self-healing concretes. Covers several effective and detailed self-repair methods, with comparative analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of each method. Examines the use of various materials, including polymers and nanomaterials. Reviews factors affecting performance, properties, and applications. Delves into future directions and opportunities. Written for researchers, advanced students, and industry professionals, Self-Healing Cementitious Materials: Technologies, Evaluation Methods, and Applications offers a detailed view of an important emerging technology in materials science, civil engineering, and related fields.
