The Modern Language Association of Amer ica, through its Committee of Five, recommended that in view of the fact that, in our Western Hemisphere, Spanish is the language of millions of men with whom we have many interests in common, it is urged that some of the textbooks be by spanish-american authors. Since the Spanish-speaking people of the Western Hemisphere are divided into nationalities which differ from each other in an extreme degree, the only possible textbook which can represent them is one containing selections from the authors of different countries, such as this volume.
