The first modern allegations of satanic sexual abuse surfaced in North America during the 1980s, followed a few years later by similar allegations in Britain. Professor La Fontaine, an anthropologist, has studied the literature on satanic abuse in England and conducted a detailed analysis of a number of actual cases. She found no evidence of devil worship. She concludes that behind the hysteria is a social movement, comparable to classic instances of witchcraft accusations and the witch hunts in sixteenth- and seventeenth-century Europe.

Speak of the Devil is the first book-length study of The Satanic Temple. Joseph Laycock, a scholar of new religious movements, contends that the emergence of "political Satanism" marks a significant moment in American religious history that will have a lasting impact on how Americans frame debates about religious freedom. Though the group gained attention for its strategic deployment of outrage, it claims to have developed beyond politics into a religious movement. Equal parts history and ethnography, Speak of the Devil demonstrates why religious Satanism is significant to larger conversations about the definition of religion, religious freedom, and religious tolerance.

In this gripping legal thriller by “the female John Grisham” (The Providence Journal), sex-crimes prosecutor Anna Curtis must stop a vicious street gang before it destroys more lives—and her own family. On the very night she gets engaged to the man she loves, Assistant US Attorney Anna Curtis’s professional life takes a shocking turn that threatens everything she holds dear. A few miles away from where she’s enjoying her romantic dinner, two separate groups are gearing up to raid a brothel. A vicious killer known as Diablo—the Devil—leads one group. A few minutes later, Anna’s own investigative team heads in to search the brothel, as part of an ongoing fight against human trafficking in DC. Both groups are caught off guard, with deadly results. As Anna investigates the bloody face-off, the boundaries between her work and home life begin to blur when she discovers a web of long-buried secrets and official lies that lead straight to her doorstep. And everything Anna counted on—the happiness she seemed so close to securing—comes into question as Diablo moves in for yet another kill. Allison Leotta draws on her experience as a DC sex-crimes prosecutor to take you into the back rooms of the US Attorney’s Office, the hidden world of the Witness Protection Program, and the secret rituals of one of America’s most dangerous gangs. Universally praised by bestselling authors from Catherine Coulter and George Pelecanos to Lisa Scottoline and David Baldacci, Leotta weaves fact and fiction to create her best novel yet.

I hunt demons. I don't work for them. And I promised my mom one thing before she was murdered: Under no circumstances, would I ever go near the high demons. But I'll break that promise over and over again if it helps me avenge her death. When my only lead turns to ash in the middle of demon territory, I'm suddenly a dead witch walking. Violence in Samael's club is an automatic death sentence... unless he can use you. And it turns out that the most powerful demon in the country has a use for little ol' me. Demons are being slaughtered. His demons. And as a bounty hunter, it's up to me to find out who would dare hurt his people. I've got two weeks to find the killer, and if I fail, I'm bonded to Samael. Forever. Samael's certain that I'll be his, but I'm not the kinda girl who risks her freedom for a demon. I'm the kinda girl who won't let anyone get in the way of her vengeance-- not even the Machiavellian control freak who thinks he can run my life. The problem? I've pissed the wrong people off. Now I'm the one being hunted, and someone's coming for me with everything they have. But I'm never more dangerous than when my back is up against the wall. I Speak For The Devil written by Imtiaz Dharker and has been published by Bloodaxe Books Limited this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001 with Poetry categories.

Imtiaz Dharker was born in Pakistan, grew up in Glasgow, and now divides her time between India and London. She draws upon this life of transitions for the themes in her second book: childhood, exile, journeying, home, and religious strife. In this collection the woman's body is a territory, a thing that is possessed, owned by herself or by another. Her sequence, "They'll say, She must be from another country,'" traces a journey, starting with a striptease where the claims of nationality, religion and her veil, and gender are cast off, to allow an explanation of new territories, the spaces between countries, cultures, and religions. The powerful sequence of "devil" poems acknowledges that in many societies women are respected, or listened to, only when they are carrying someone else in their bodies-a child; a devil. For some, to be "possessed" is to be set free. "A pleasure to read."-World Literature Today

What happened to the great dictators of contemporary history -- responsible for some of its most gruesome chapters? Do they still seem as terrifying as when they were in power? An unrepentant Idi Amin lives in exile in Saudi Arabia and still meddles in African wars. Before dying, Bokassa proclaimed himself the 13th apostle of the Roman Catholic Church and talked of his secret meetings with the Pope. Colonel Menghistu defends his Red Terror campaign. Mrs. Hoxha, from her cell in Tirana, argues why the most isolated regime in the world was right to adopt a brutal Stalinist ideology. Paris-based Baby Doc Duvalier speaks about voodoo, solar panels, his women and his lost money. Mrs. Milosevic defends the wars in the former Yugoslavia and declares her love for her husband. Jaruzelski reveals his personal transition from son of an aristocratic family, to autocrat army general in sunglasses. Riccardo Orizio has tracked down these fallen tyrants and thrown a new light on the people whose names have become synonymous with misery, death and terror for entire nations.

The Prince Of This World written by Adam Kotsko and has been published by Stanford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-10-26 with Religion categories.

“Kotsko goes beyond the biography of an icon to a provocative investigation of the devil’s many lives and effects in cultural and political ideologies.” —Laurel C. Schneider, author of Beyond Monotheism The most enduring challenge to traditional monotheism is the problem of evil, which attempts to reconcile three incompatible propositions: God is all-good, God is all-powerful, and evil happens. The Prince of This World traces the story of one of the most influential attempts to square this circle: the offloading of responsibility for evil onto one of God’s rebellious creatures. In this striking reexamination, the devil’s story is bitterly ironic, full of tragic reversals. He emerges as a theological symbol who helps oppressed communities cope with the trauma of unjust persecution, torture, and death at the hands of political authorities and eventually becomes a vehicle to justify oppression at the hands of Christian rulers. And he evolves alongside the biblical God, who at first presents himself as the liberator of the oppressed but ends up a cruel ruler who delights in the infliction of suffering on his friends and enemies alike. In other words, this is the story of how God becomes the devil—a devil who remains with us in our ostensibly secular age. “This diabolically gripping genealogy offers a stunning parable of western politics religious and secular. It tracks as has never been done before the dramatic shifts of the relation between God and the Devil—conflict, rivalry, game of mirrors, fusion. With the ironic wisdom of a postmodern Beatrice, Kotsko guides us through the sequence of hells that leads to our own.” —Catherine Keller, author of On the Mystery: Discerning Divinity in Process
