Risk Assessment In Geotechnical Engineering written by Gordon A. Fenton and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-09-02 with Science categories.
NEW PROBABILISTIC APPROACHES FOR REALISTIC RISK ASSESSMENT IN GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING. This text presents a thorough examination of the theories and methodologies available for risk assessment in geotechnical engineering, spanning the full range from established single-variable and "first order" methods to the most recent, advanced numerical developments. In response to the growing application of LRFD methodologies in geotechnical design, coupled with increased demand for risk assessments from clients ranging from regulatory agencies to insurance companies, authors Fenton and Griffiths have introduced an innovative reliability-based risk assessment method, the Random Finite Element Method (RFEM). The authors have spent more than fifteen years developing this statistically based method for modeling the real spatial variability of soils and rocks. As demonstrated in the book, RFEM performs better in real-world applications than traditional risk assessment tools that do not properly account for the spatial variability of geomaterials. This text is divided into two parts: Part One, Theory, explains the theory underlying risk assessment methods in geotechnical engineering. This part's seven chapters feature more than 100 worked examples, enabling you to develop a detailed understanding of the methods. Part Two, Practice, demonstrates how to use advanced probabilistic tools for several classical geotechnical engineering applications. Working with the RFEM, the authors show how to assess risk in problems familiar to all geotechnical engineers. All the programs used for the geotechnical applications discussed in Part Two may be downloaded from the authors' Web site at www.engmath.dal.ca/rfem/ at no charge, enabling you to duplicate the authors' results and experiment with your own data. In short, you get all the theory and practical guidance you need to apply the most advanced probabilistic approaches for managing uncertainty in geotechnical design.

International Conference On Structural Safety And Reliability written by Alfred M. Freudenthal and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-05-17 with Technology & Engineering categories.
International Conference on Structural Safety and Reliability documents the proceedings of a conference of the same name, which focuses mainly on the integration of all aspects of structural design (load-analysis, stability and strength analysis, and stress and deformation analysis) by the safety and reliability analysis of the structure of necessity. This text is divided into five sessions, reflecting the manner each topic is presented in the symposium. The general aspects of structural reliability are first presented, and then the methods of safety and reliability analysis and the Bayesian statistical decision theory and reliability-based design are examined. This book then considers the problems regarding the extreme values of stochastic processes, as well as other statistical theories of extremes. A part in this text is devoted to the random excitation of structures. The last two parts examine the development of modern aircraft design and structure as well as special reliability problems to evaluate and apply the theories examined. This book will be valuable to engineering students and engineers interested in structural safety and reliability.

Molecular Nanomagnets written by Dante Gatteschi and has been published by OUP Oxford this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-04-14 with Science categories.
Nanomagnetism is a rapidly expanding area of research which appears to be able to provide novel applications. Magnetic molecules are at the very bottom of the possible size of nanomagnets and they provide a unique opportunity to observe the coexistence of classical and quantum properties. The discovery in the early 90's that a cluster comprising twelve manganese ions shows hysteresis of molecular origin, and later proved evidence of quantum effects, opened a new research area which is still flourishing through the collaboration of chemists and physicists. This book is the first attempt to cover in detail the new area of molecular nanomagnetism, for which no other book is available. In fact research and review articles, and book chapters are the only tools available for newcomers and the experts in the field. It is written by the chemists originators and by a theorist who has been one of the protagonists of the development of the field, and is explicitly addressed to an audience of chemists and physicists, aiming to use a language suitable for the two communities.

Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Of Transition Ions written by A. Abragam and has been published by OUP Oxford this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-06-28 with Science categories.
This book is a reissue of a classic Oxford text, and provides a comprehensive treatment of electron paramagnetic resonance of ions of the transition groups. The emphasis is on basic principles, with numerous references to publications containing further experimental results and more detailed developments of the theory. An introductory survey gives a general understanding, and a general survey presents such topics as the classical and quantum resonance equations, the spin-Hamiltonian, Endor, spin-spin and spin-lattice interactions, together with an outline of the known behaviour of ions of each of the five transition groups, at the experimentalist's level. Finally a theoretical survey, using group theory and symmetry properties, discusses the fundamentals of the theory of paramagnetism.

Reliability Of Geotechnical Structures written by Davin Tuft and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-02 with categories.
Reliability-based design is relatively well established in structural design. Reliability based design and assessment methods are used to make design and operational decisions that meet specified target reliability levels. As modern structures require more critical and complex designs, the need for accurate approaches to assess uncertainties in loads, geometry, material properties, manufacturing processes and operational environments has increased significantly. Reliability assessment techniques help to develop safe designs and identify where significant contributors of uncertainty occur in structural systems, or, where further research, testing and quality control could increase the safety and efficiency of the structure. The book presents an overview on how reliability can play a complementary role within prevailing norms in geotechnical practice to address situations where some measured data and past experience exist for limited site specific data to be supplemented by both objective regional data and subjective judgment derived from comparable sites elsewhere.Reliability of Geotechnical Structures presents all the essential information for a non-specialist to calculate and interpret the reliability index and risk of geotechnical structures in a realistic and robust way. It will be a valuable reference for graduate and post graduate students studying structural reliability, probabilistic analysis and optimization under uncertainty; as well as engineers, researchers, and technical managers who are concerned with theoretical fundamentals, computational implementations and applications for probabilistic analysis.
