Dass es bereits die Vorfahren von Homo sapiens in den Füßen juckte, schildert unser Autor Thorwald Ewe ab S. 64. Vor 1,8 Millionen Jahren war Homo erectus von Afrika aus bis in den Kaukasus gelangt. Auch solche Frühmenschen trafen wohl auf Neuankömmlinge – Neandertaler, Denisovaner und anatomisch moderne Menschen. Und auch diese Begegnungen blieben nicht folgenlos, wie Spuren in altem Erbgut zeigen. Mit dieser Ausgabe gibt es übrigens eine Neuerung im Heft.
