Art And Anarchy written by Edgar Wind and has been published by Northwestern University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1985 with Architecture categories.

Will works of the imagination ever regain the power they once had to challenge and mould society and the individual? This was the question posed by Edgar Wind's influential Reith Lectures delivered in 1960 and later expanded into his book Art and Anarchy. The book examines the various forces that have fashioned the modern view of the art, from mechanization and fear of intellect to connoisseurship and--perhaps the fundamental weakness of our age--the dispassionate acceptance of art. In the course of his discussion, Wind surveyed a wide range of topics in the history of painting, literature, music, and the plastic arts from the Renaissance to modern times.

The End Of Our Time written by Nikolaĭ Berdi︠a︡ev and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009 with Civilization, Modern categories.

This book is the philosophical fruit of Nikolai Berdyaev's first-hand experience of, and reflections on, the crisis of European civilization in the aftermath of the Great War and the Russian Revolution. Berdyaev tells us that the modern age, with its failed Humanism, is being replaced by a new epoch: "the new middle ages," an epoch of darkness, an epoch of the universal night of history. Berdyaev asserts that this night is a good thing: in this darkness, which is a return to the mysterious life of the spirit, the destruction inflicted by the previous period of "light" will be healed: "Night is not less wonderful than day; it is equally the work of God; it is lit by the splendor of the stars and it reveals to us things that the day does not know. Night is closer than day to the mystery of all beginning" (pp. 70-71, present volume).

A rediscovered World War I masterpiece—one of the few memoirs about the Italian front—for fans of military history and All Quiet on the Western Front An infantryman’s “harrowing, moving, [and] occasionally comic” account of trench warfare on the alpine front seen in A Farewell to Arms (Times Literary Supplement). Taking its place alongside works by Ernst JŸnger, Robert Graves, and Erich Maria Remarque, Emilio Lussu’s memoir as an infantryman is one of the most affecting accounts to come out of the First World War. A classic in Italy but virtually unknown in the English-speaking world, it reveals in spare and detached prose the almost farcical side of the war as seen by a Sardinian officer fighting the Austrian army on the Asiago plateau in northeastern Italy—the alpine front so poignantly evoked by Ernest Hemingway in A Farewell to Arms. For Lussu, June 1916 to July 1917 was a year of continuous assaults on impregnable trenches, absurd missions concocted by commanders full of patriotic rhetoric and vanity but lacking in tactical skill, and episodes often tragic and sometimes grotesque, where the incompetence of his own side was as dangerous as the attacks waged by the enemy. A rare firsthand account of the Italian front, Lussu’s memoir succeeds in staging a fierce indictment of the futility of war in a dry, often ironic style that sets his tale wholly apart from the Western Front of Remarque and adds an astonishingly modern voice to the literature of the Great War.

Published and distributed for the Vidal Sassoon International Center for the Study of Antisemitism The origins of the infamous forgery the Protocols of the Sages of Zion are the subject of much vigorous debate. In this meticulously researched and cogently argued study, Cesare G. De Michelis illuminates its authors and the circumstances of production by focusing on the text itself. De Michelis examines in detail the earliest texts of the Protocols, looking in particular at the historical and structural relationships among them. His research unveils the differing texts of the Protocols and the presumed date of the first forgery. It also yields a greater understanding of the milieu in which the forgery was produced and the identity and motivations of its authors. This volume is a revised and expanded edition of the original, which appeared in Italian. Featured is an arguably archetypal Russian text of the Protocols, which De Michelis pieced together from several publications, based on careful textual analysis.
