Millions of photos are taken every day across the world. Some are just snapshots. Others are more carefully crafted and have the capacity to deepen our vision and sharpen our sense of what life is truly about. Spirituality in Photography explores how photography can offer unique perspectives on the self, the world, and what we live by. Readers are invited to take photos more slowly, reframe their gaze, allow themselves to be fully present, and let their photos tell a story--this includes a section on how photography can offer new perspectives on the Bible. The book also explores how photography can help readers meditate on mystery and tune into their own 'rule of life.' Spirituality in Photography offers a range of ideas for readers to try out with their camera or smartphone and invites them on a journey of discovery, as they allow their photography and their spirituality to inspire each other.

The Eyes Of The Heart written by Christine Valters Paintner and has been published by Ave Maria Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-03-25 with Religion categories.

In this first book to explore photography as a spiritual practice from a Christian perspective, Christine Valters Paintner builds on the process of contemplative creativity she introduced online at Abbey of the Arts and in her book The Artist's Rule. She considers how a camera can help readers open "the eyes of the heart." More than a book on photographic technique, Eyes of the Heart is about cultivating photography as a spiritual practice. Adapting the monastic practice of lectio divina (sacred reading) into a form of visio divina (sacred seeing), spiritual director and Benedictine oblate Christine Valters Paintner invites readers to a new way of viewing the world--through the lens of a camera. Paintner guides readers through six themes connecting the medium of photography with the Christian spiritual life. Each theme provides a photographic journey in which the reader does not simply take images, but receives images and learns to see with "the eyes of the heart" (Eph 1:18). Photos by the author are included.

For amateurs and professionals alike, this book is the story of photography's power to renew the spirit. Jan Phillips helps us transform sight into vision, leading us to see that images can be mirrors for our deepest truths, even in our simple snapshots. "The real thing about photography," Jan says, "is that it brings you home to yourself, connects you to what fulfills your deepest longings. Every step in the process is a step toward the light, an encounter with the God who is at eye level, whose image I see wherever I look. There's something holy about this work. Like the pilgrim's journey; it's heaven all the way."

Spiritual Journey written by Michelle Rae Baikie and has been published by AuthorHouse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-06 with Newfoundland and Labrador categories.

A descendant of Orkney Islanders and the earlier Inuit of Hamilton Inlet, she grew up on the land and on the water with people of a unique culture who survived and thrived on fish and fur. She has a unique understanding of the people and their place and this is reflected in her photography. But she has roots too on the Great Northern Peninsula of the Island, which gives her an unmatchable appreciation for both parts of our Province. Senator Bill Rompkey for Labrador, Canada Digital imaging and dye sublimation allow Baikie to drape a spiritual, almost ethereal, haze over the photographs she manipulates. Modern processes combine with the historical quality of her images to create, paradoxically, a revealing documentary of the development of the province and its impending changes. In attempting to represent the past Baikie is: "Searching for something, even if it's trying to be closer to God in some way." Baikie continues to sharpen her artistic eye in the colourful surroundings of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador. She is the owner of MRB Photo Communications. A Communion Of Shadows written by Rachel McBride Lindsey and has been published by UNC Press Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-10-17 with Religion categories.

When the revolutionary technology of photography erupted in American culture in 1839, it swiftly became, in the day's parlance, a "mania." This richly illustrated book positions vernacular photography at the center of the study of nineteenth-century American religious life. As an empirical tool, photography captured many of the signal scenes of American life, from the gold rush to the bloody battlefields of the Civil War. But photographs did not simply display neutral records of people, places, and things; rather, commonplace photographs became inscribed with spiritual meaning, disclosing, not merely signifying, a power that lay beyond. Rachel McBride Lindsey demonstrates that what people beheld when they looked at a photograph had as much to do with what lay outside the frame--theological expectations, for example--as with what the camera had recorded. Whether studio portraits tucked into Bibles, postmortem portraits with locks of hair attached, "spirit" photography, stereographs of the Holy Land, or magic lanterns used in biblical instruction, photographs were curated, beheld, displayed, and valued as physical artifacts that functioned both as relics and as icons of religious practice. Lindsey's interpretation of "vernacular" as an analytic introduces a way to consider anew the cultural, social, and material reach of religion. A multimedia collaboration with MAVCOR—Center for the Study of Material & Visual Cultures of Religion—at Yale University.
