Ein alter Reiseradler investiert seinen Jahresurlaub in eine Reise mit seinem neuen Liegefahrrad durch diese Länder und Finnland, ein Land ohne richtige Berge, wo es aber kaum flache Straßenstücke gibt, dafür aber an fast jedem Parkplatz einen "P"adeplatz, und nach finnisch und norwegisch Lappland, wo es nicht mehr ganz so viele Seen gibt, kaum Menschen, viel weniger Moskitos als befürchtet, jede Menge Beeren, Bären hauptsächlich aus Holz, in jedem Garten eine ein Meter hohe Windmühle und jede Menge Rentiere, zum Nordkap. Unterwegs gibt es viel Zeit, Muse und leider auch Anlass, sich mit der Technik eines noch nicht vertrauten Fahrrads auseinanderzusetzen. Der Radler steht aber auch vor anderen Herausforderungen, wie dem Kampf mit einer fremden Tastatur in einem estnischen Internetcafé, einer spärlich verteilten und vor Ausländern teils gut versteckten Lebensmittelversorgung, für Alltagsradler gewaltigen Entfernungen, und kurz vor dem Ziel den Stürmen am Nordkap(p), lernt neben Fahrradtechnik und neuen Wörtern (leider nicht in allen 9 neuen Sprachen) auch, dass sogar seine körperliche Leistungsfähigkeit und Belastbarkeit begrenzt ist. Vor allem aber trifft er unzählige nette Menschen, genießt die unendlich scheinende Landschaft mit den beschaulichen Siedlungen im nördlichen Europa, die ungewohnten Überfahrten mit der Fähre, die Badegelegenheiten im Land der 1000 Seen, und einfach das Gefühl des großen Abenteuers.
