Von besonderem Aussagewert für die global zu beobachtenden Überlebensstrategien der Häftlinge, aber auch der Soldaten, sind zahlreiche Objekte, die mit einfachsten Mitteln selbst gefertigt wurden und an das soziale Leben vor der Gefangenschaft, vor dem Krieg anknüpfen oder erinnern sollen.

This edited volume aims to critically discuss in how far the national orientation of schools and teacher education is appropriate in light of increasing migration and transnationality. Anastasia Lysyvets’s memoir Tell us about a happy life ... (Skazhy pro shchaslyve zhyttia ...), published in Kyiv in 2009 and now available for the first time in an English translation, is one of the most powerful testimonies of a victim of the Holodomor, the Great Famine of 1932–1933 in Ukraine. This mass starvation was organized by the Soviet regime and resulted in millions of deaths by hunger. The simple village teacher Lysyvets’s testimony, written during the 1970s and 1980s without hope of publication, depicts pain, death, and hunger as few others do. In his commentary, Vitalii Ogiienko explains how traumatic traces found their way into Lysyvets’s text. He proposes that the reader develops an alternative method of reading that replaces the usual ways of imagining with a focus on the body and that detects mechanisms of transmission of the original Holodomor experience through generations.

Es geht in dem vorliegenden Band um die Rehabilitierung der theoretischen Neugierde für jenes Millennium, das wir Mittelalter nennen. Was heißt es, eine theoretische Einstellung einzunehmen? Gibt es kulturelle Unterschiede oder einen Bedeutungswandel hinsichtlich der curiositas? Was sind die bevorzugten Gegenstandsbereiche der theoretischen Neugier? Hierbei prallen zwei Einstellungen aufeinander: die curiositas als fehlgeleitete und im Grunde eitle und schädliche Neugier oder als ein Naturverlangen, das ein anthropologisches Existential darstellt. Ausgehend vom Wortfeld der theoretischen Neugierde wird die Dialektik und longue durée der curiositas in ihren historischen und systematischen Zusammenhängen thematisiert. An die Stelle von normativen Wertungen treten zeitlich und räumlich weitgespannte Untersuchungen, die dazu beitragen, die begriffliche, motivische und konzeptionelle Entfaltung der theoretischen Neugier im Spannungsfeld theoretischer, kultureller, institutioneller und religiöser Determinanten zu verfolgen und damit zugleich aus der epochenfixierten Engführung zu befreien. Heidemarie Uhl war eine renommierte Wissenschaftlerin, Vermittlerin, Ideengeberin, Netzwerkerin und Projektleiterin sowie eine unermüdliche Mentorin, die jungen Wissenschaftler*innen unprätentiös half, ihren Weg zu finden. Für all dies soll diese Publikation eine Würdigung sein. Der vorliegende Beitragsband war als Festschrift für Heidemarie Uhl geplant und sollte ihr Mitte September 2023, rund um ihren 67. Geburtstag, übergeben werden. Mitte August erreichte die Herausgeber*innen völlig unerwartet und viel zu früh die Nachricht von ihrem Tod. Daher ist aus der "Festschrift für" trauriger- und schmerzhafterweise ein Band "in memoriam" Heidemarie Uhl geworden. Die Publikation mit Beiträgen von Kolleg*innen und Freund*innen, Wegefährt*innen und Schüler*innen setzt sich mit dem Forschungsfeld Uhls auseinander: den Erinnerungskulturen und Geschichtspolitiken. Dabei werden unterschiedliche nationale und internationale "Erinnerungsorte" (durchaus im Sinne von topographischen Orten) auf einer mentalen Karte beleuchtet.
