Deirdre "Foxtrot" Lancaster returns-with her otherworldly animal companions Whiskey and Tango-to shine a light on the dark side of fame... Foxtrot has seen a lot of strange things as assistant to billionaire Zelda Zoransky at her wacky mansion. And that includes her telepathic cat Tango and ectoplasmic pooch Whiskey. So it's no surprise to find a horde of zombies lurching across the lawn-even if they are just actors in a horror movie that's filming on the mansion grounds. The special effects look pretty convincing. But all that fake blood doesn't fool Whiskey, who quickly sniffs out the truth: one of those corpses is real... A DEADLY TAIL Before you can say, "Lights, camera, murder," Foxtrot and her furry partners-in-crime-solving are caught up in the drama of who-killed-who...and why. With a crazy cast of characters including a neurotic director, a star-hungry diva-even with an appearance by Lassie's ghost-it's bound to have one hell of a twist ending. But first, Foxtrot and her supernatural sidekicks have to find a killer amongst them-before the whole case is a wrap...in the next Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot novel from Dixie Lyle. "A clever new series that deftly blends cozy mystery with the paranormal...original and witty."-Ali Brandon, author of the Black Cat Bookshop mysteries

The Psychology Of Proof written by Lance J. Rips and has been published by MIT Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-01-01 with Psychology categories.

Lance Rips describes a unified theory of natural deductive reasoning and fashions a working model of deduction, with strong experimental support, that is capable of playing a central role in mental life. In this provocative book, Lance Rips describes a unified theory of natural deductive reasoning and fashions a working model of deduction, with strong experimental support, that is capable of playing a central role in mental life. Rips argues that certain inference principles are so central to our notion of intelligence and rationality that they deserve serious psychological investigation to determine their role in individuals' beliefs and conjectures. Asserting that cognitive scientists should consider deductive reasoning as a basis for thinking, Rips develops a theory of natural reasoning abilities and shows how it predicts mental successes and failures in a range of cognitive tasks. In parts I and II of the book, Rips builds insights from cognitive psychology, logic, and artificial intelligence into a unified theoretical structure. He defends the idea that deduction depends on the ability to construct mental proofs—actual memory units that link given information to conclusions it warrants. From this base Rips develops a computational model of deduction based on two cognitive skills: the ability to make suppositions or assumptions and the ability to posit sub-goals for conclusions. A wide variety of original experiments support this model, including studies of human subjects evaluating logical arguments as well as following and remembering proofs. Unlike previous theories of mental proof, this one handles names and variables in a general way. This capability enables deduction to play a crucial role in other thought processes, such as classifying and problem solving. In part III, Rips compares the theory to earlier approaches in psychology which confined the study of deduction to a small group of tasks, and examines whether the theory is too rational or too irrational in its mode of thought.

The Jade Dragon will take you on a journey to old Shanghai, where danger, excitement, and romance exist side by side. In 1935, Shanghai is the place to be. Glittering nightlife, bustling business, and a diverse international community are just some of the appeals of the “Paris of the Orient.” Douglas Bainbridge, Office of Naval Intelligence, is beginning a two-year immersion in Shanghai when he runs into Tim McIntyre, a childhood friend from San Francisco. Tim is a reporter for the Shanghai office of the Associated Press, and he offers to show Doug the local nightlife. While enjoying a show at The Jade Dragon, Tim never returns from intermission, and Doug finds Tim’s body in an alley. The police dismiss it as a robbery gone bad, but Doug knows there was more to it. Bystanders saw Tim arguing with a pair of men before walking away with them. Doug finds files in Tim’s office showing he was investigating Japanese infiltration of a Korean resistance group; and the notorious “Green Gang” that controls the opium trade in China, and has deep ties to General Chiang Kai-Shek himself. Tim’s friend and fellow reporter, Art “Jonesy” Jones goads Doug into solving Tim’s murder. But in Shanghai, danger lurks around every dark corner. The Jade Dragon is an upmarket historical mystery, with crossover appeal to fans of spy fiction, and gay & lesbian fiction.

Dangerous and mysterious events are afoot in a peace-loving land... Someone is killing Swiss colonels, and painting a hammer and sickle at the scene. When Dr. Fritz Rubenstein, a physicist in Zurich, is gunned down in his office, the only clue is a letter in his trash requesting assistance for the French Resistance. Swiss Intelligence is new, underfunded, and understaffed, and they ask the U.S. government for help. Martin Schuller is sent to Switzerland to go undercover to find the killers, and what they're after. As war rages all around, Switzerland is an island of serenity. But Switzerland in the fall of 1941 is not all it appears. Delving beneath the serene appearance, Martin finds a secretive world of right-wing organizations, idealistic student activists, banks full of Nazi gold, and competing foreign agents. With the help of Franz Lemiel, a world-wise artist and activist, and Jason Bachman, an eager young American diplomat, Martin discovers a conspiracy to bring down the Swiss government in one dramatic event. Can he stop the conspirators from carrying out their attack, and changing the course of the war? Book Three in the Martin Schuller Spy Catcher series brings new dangers, and forces Martin to blur the lines between spy and spy catcher. It reintroduces a character from Gray Paree, a companion novel to this series. Content warning: This book contains a dark sequence involving torture in a Gestapo dungeon, including sexual assault. This is realistically portrayed, and may be traumatic for certain readers.
