"Every now and then a book comes along so startling in its ingenuity, so crisp and invigorating in its perception and argument, so revealing in its investigation of its subject matter, that one is forced to reevaluate, reconsider, and restructure one's understanding and one's perspectives on theatre, discourse, and history. Such a book is Anthony Kubiak's Stages of Terror." -- Theatre Studies ..". quite compelling. It is rich and complete while leaving plenty of room for further development... " -- Text and Performance Quarterly Using Aristotle's Poetics as its point of departure, Anthony Kubiak traces the forms or "stages" of terror as a cultural and performative principle through English Renaissance and Restoration plays, through the modern and postmodern, to contemporary terrorist "theatres."

First published in 2003, Terrorist Recognition Handbook: A Practitioner's Manual for Predicting and Identifying Terrorist Activities remains one of the only books available to provide detailed information on terrorist methodology—revealing terrorist motivation, organizational structure, planning, financing, and operational tactics to carry out attacks. This fully revised and updated third edition contains the detailed analysis and history of prior editions with completely new case studies and information on new and emerging terrorist practices and trends. Updates to the third edition include: The newest geopolitical challenges and terrorism to emerge from the geopolitical climate post-Arab Spring Details on the newest attack tactics and procedures of al-Qaeda including al-Qaeda of the Arabian Peninsula, the Islamic Maghreb, and East and North Africa Lessons learned from recent terrorist operations and information gained from plots foiled by the FBI in the U.S. Current strategic factors and regional variables affecting global terrorism and regional insurgencies Potential points of failure in terrorist operations where plots can be most easily detected and disrupted The increasing trend of self radicalized, Internet- educated "lone wolf" operations, as demonstrated in the Boston Marathon bombing The rebirth of U.S. and European militia groups Written for counterterrorism practitioners who risk their lives to uncover planned attacks on civilian populations, this book will serve as a guide to train intelligence operatives, law enforcement entities, and military intelligence agents and soldiers to recognize and disrupt the various stages of developing terrorist plots.

In compiling this annotated bibliography on the psychology of terrorism, the author has defined terrorism as "acts of violence intentionally perpetrated on civilian noncombatants with the goal of furthering some ideological, religious or political objective." The principal focus is on nonstate actors. The task was to identify and analyze the scientific and professional social science literature pertaining to the psychological and/or behavioral dimensions of terrorist behavior (not on victimization or effects). The objectives were to explore what questions pertaining to terrorist groups and behavior had been asked by social science researchers; to identify the main findings from that research; and attempt to distill and summarize them within a framework of operationally relevant questions. To identify the relevant social science literature, the author began by searching a series of major academic databases using a systematic, iterative keyword strategy, mapping, where possible, onto existing subject headings. The focus was on locating professional social science literature published in major books or in peer-reviewed journals. Searches were conducted of the following databases October 2003: Sociofile/Sociological Abstracts, Criminal Justice Abstracts (CJ Abstracts), Criminal Justice Periodical Index (CJPI), National Criminal Justice Reference Service Abstracts (NCJRS), PsycInfo, Medline, and Public Affairs Information Service (PAIS). Three types of annotations were provided for works in this bibliography: Author's Abstract -- this is the abstract of the work as provided (and often published) by the author; Editor's Annotation -- this is an annotation written by the editor of this bibliography; and Key Quote Summary -- this is an annotation composed of "key quotes" from the original work, edited to provide a cogent overview of its main points.

‘This work goes where other books fear to tread. It reaches the parts other scholars might imagine in their dreams but would neither have the international reach nor the critical acumen and forensic flourish to deliver.’ Alan Read, King's College London ‘This book is not only timely. It is overdue – and it is a masterpiece unrivalled by any book I know of.’ Erika Fischer-Lichte, Freie Universität Berlin ‘The first and only book that focuses on the intersections of performance, terror and terrorism as played out beyond a Euro-American context post-9/11. It is an important work, both substantively and methodologically.’ Jenny Hughes, University of Manchester ‘A profound and tightly bound sequence of reflections ... a rigorously provocative book.’ Stephen Barber, Kingston University London In this exceptional investigation Rustom Bharucha considers the realities of Islamophobia, the legacies of Truth and Reconciliation, the deadly certitudes of State-controlled security systems and the legitimacy of counter-terror terrorism, drawing on a vast spectrum of human cruelties across the global South. The outcome is a brilliantly argued case for seeing terror as a volatile and mutant phenomenon that is deeply lived, experienced, and performed within the cultures of everyday life.

Scripts Of Terror written by Benedict Wilkinson and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-02-01 with Political Science categories.

This book explores terrorism as a strategic choice-- one made carefully and deliberately by rational actors. Through an analysis of the terrorist groups of Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Yemen, this book charts a series of different strategic 'scripts' at play in terrorist behavior, from survival, to efforts in mobilizing a supporter base, through to the grinding attrition of a long terrorist campaign. The theme that runs through all the organizations is the unbridgeable gap between their strategic vision, and what actually unfolds. Regardless of which script terrorists follow, they often fall short of achieving their political ambitions. And yet, despite its frequent failure, the terrorist strategy is returned to time and again-- people continue to join such groups, and to commit mindless acts of violence. Scripts of Terror explores the reasons behind this. It asks why, if terrorism is so rarely successful and so hard to pull off, its approach remains an appealing one. And it examines how terrorists formulate their strategies, and how they envisage achieving their ambitions through violence. Most importantly, it explores why they so often fail.

Terrorists Are Born When The Pairs Break written by Abdul Ghafoor Khan and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-10 with Political Science categories.

The book is based on the relationship of science to society and religion and is a unique effort to expose terrorists, no matter who ever they are and what ever relation they might have to society and religion. The author has tried to define terrorism in the language of nature, a language which is not subservient to the vested interest of man. Using the language, the author has not only unveiled the hidden faces of terrorists but the work has also lead to finding clues to creating global peace and prosperity. The research is concentrated on knowing the meaning of 'existence' - living or non living; concrete or abstract. Having done so, the author has developed a two stages theorem which he named "The AG Two Stages Theorem." The theorem says that all existences have two stages. One is about how it comes into being and the other is needed to sustain and develop the new born existence. A civilized society for example is the name of an existence. The author has applied the theorem to creating this existence in stage-1 and has then shown how to sustain and develop this created existence in stage-2. During the process, the author has come across another scientific outcome of the theorem, that is, no existence can build itself by destroying or weakening others. Therefore the policies of domination and bullying over others have to be abandoned if a global civilized society has to be established. The study has scientifically proved that the healthiness of any existence in the universe is dependent upon the healthiness of all other existences in the universe. Applying the theory to finding the relationship between mankind and a global welfare state, the author discovered: A mankind in itself is a state and is a building block of any other state of bigger dimensions. A state of larger dimensions could be either a home, street, village, town, city, county, province, country or the globe. It is therefore important that the building block be made strong if we have to create a global welfare state to maintain peace everywhere on the planet. The AG Two Stages Theorem is an amazing outcome of the author's work and is applicable to any existence in the universe.

With a foreword by Geoffrey Robertson, QC. The issues of terror and terrorism confront us every day- every time we board a flight, pick up a newspaper or watch television. Concerns about terrorism now dictate domestic and foreign policies around the world. In a very real sense, one way or another we find ourselves in the grip of terror. But what is terror? How is it described, measured and experienced? Is the current terrorist threat unprecedented? The answers to many of these questions, and the lessons therein, are to be found in history; and nowhere more so than in Europe. In fact, Europe has been home to some of the most terrifying and horrific events in recorded human history. This collection takes a broad-ranging yet detailed look at the landmark events and epochs of terror across Europe, from the Gunpowder Plot of 1605 to the terrorist bombings on the London Underground in July 2005. Drawing on leading authorities from across the globe, this volume explores the historical mutation of political violence and concepts of terror. Terror will be of interest to scholars of history, international relations and political science; to policy makers; and to the educated layperson.
