Population growth and climate change have posed significant challenges to crop breeding. The identification of crop agronomic traits is fundamental to breeding, yet currently, the collection of such traits is largely reliant on the subjective judgment of workers or ground test equipment, which is both costly and inefficient. In recent years, the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) has revolutionized modern agriculture and plant science. AI is a rapidly evolving field with datasets, models, and algorithms constantly changing. It has also been increasingly applied to unmanned aerial vehicles, field robots, and hyperspectral imaging sensors, offering great potential for large-scale crop growth monitoring and precision management, driving the agricultural field from mechanization to automation and intelligence. This research topic aims to encourage research work that actively embraces new AI ideas/progress and combines these new ideas/technologies with robotics or sensing technologies for applications in plant phenotyping or precision agriculture. We encourage the use of technologies that have seen significant development in the AI community after 2020, such as vision transformers and diffusion models.

Identification of desirable genotypes with traits of interest is discernible for making genetic improvement of crop plants. In this direction, screening of a large number of germplasm for desirable traits and transfer of identified traits into agronomic backgrounds through recombination breeding is the common breeding approach. Although visual screening is easier for qualitative traits, its use is not much effective for quantitative traits and also for those, which are difficult to score visually. Therefore, it is imperative to phenotype the germplasm accessions and breeding materials precisely using high throughput phenomics tools for challenging and complex traits under natural, controlled and harsh environmental conditions. Realizing the importance of phenotyping data towards identification and utilization of a germplasm as donors, global scientific community has exerted increased focus on advancing phenomics in crop plants leading to development of a number of techniques and methodologies for screening of agronomic, physiological, and biochemical traits. These technologies have now become much advanced and entered the era of digital science. This book provides exhaustive information on various aspects related to phenotyping of crop plants and offers a most comprehensive reference on the developments made in traditional and high throughput phenotyping of agricultural crops.

Intelligent Image Analysis For Plant Phenotyping written by Ashok Samal and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-10-21 with Computers categories.
Domesticated crops are the result of artificial selection for particular phenotypes or, in some cases, natural selection for an adaptive trait. Plant traits can be identified through image-based plant phenotyping, a process that was, until recently, strenous and time-consuming. Intelligent Image Analysis for Plant Phenotyping reviews information on time-saving techniques, using computer vision and imaging technologies. These methodologies provide an automated, non-invasive, and scalable mechanism by which to define and collect plant phenotypes. Beautifully illustrated, with numerous color images, the book focuses on phenotypes measured from individual plants under controlled experimental conditions, which are widely available in high-throughput systems. Features: Presents methodologies for image processing, including data-driven and machine learning techniques for plant phenotyping. Features information on advanced techniques for extracting phenotypes through images and image sequences captured in a variety of modalities. Includes real-world scientific problems, including predicting yield by modeling interactions between plant data and environmental information. Discusses the challenge of translating images into biologically informative quantitative phenotypes. A practical resource for students, researchers, and practitioners, this book is invaluable for those working in the emerging fields at the intersection of computer vision and plant sciences.

Engineering Practices For Management Of Soil Salinity written by S. K. Gupta and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-08-29 with Science categories.
Abiotic stresses are known to adversely impact agricultural productivity on millions of hectares globally, and it is projected that these problems are likely to increase, primarily due to anthropogenic interventions as well as climatic changes. Understanding abiotic stresses—especially salt stress on soil—calls for an interdisciplinary approach because salt-stressed soils need hydro-technical, chemical, and agronomic interventions as well as an understanding of plant response when exposed to these stresses. This volume explores and conveys the latest information on emerging technologies in the management of abiotic salt stress and their field applications. It brings together experts from various fields (academia, technology, and engineering) to provide the latest information and knowledge on this important challenge.

Omics And Genome Editing written by Kartika Sharma and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-03-15 with Science categories.
This book offers up-to-date research on genome editing and omics technologies from renowned academics with established backgrounds from throughout the globe. The world population is expected to touch 9–10 billion by 2050 and to feed the growing population, 50% more food must be produced globally than is currently produced. Nonetheless, it is a difficult challenge to increase the food output of the currently existing crops on available land. Over the past few decades, traditional crop enhancement techniques like plant breeding and other agricultural technology have made a significant contribution to food and nutritional security. With the use of strong technologies, genome editing strategies can significantly improve the productivity and efficiency of current agricultural practices. Discovering the underlying mechanisms influencing features of economic value has been made possible through genome editing through CRISPR/Cas9, primer and base editing, and OMICs through genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, transcriptomics, and phenomics. This book provides a wealth of information on omics and genome editing approaches and their application to develop abiotic, biotic, and climate-tolerant crops, as well as RNA interference, next-generation sequencing, and metabolomics for sustainable crop production. Researchers are actively using both genome editing and omics for crop improvement; however, there is limited literature offered in a single source. Undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders will find this book to be an invaluable resource.
