Use Of The Magnus Force In The Modified Point Mass Trajectory Model written by Robert F. Lieske and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1990 with Magnus effect categories.
A method is presented for determining the Magnus force coefficient for use with the Modified Point Mass Trajectory model, to improve the simulated time of flight, based on the firing table experimental range firing impact and time-of-flight data. A comparison is made with the Magnus force coefficients determined from aerodynamic testing for the 155mm, HE, M107 and 8-Inch, HE, RA, M650 projectiles. The Magnus force coefficients contained in the firing table data base for artillery projectiles are presented. Keywords: Magnus force, Trajectory modeling, Flight performance, Flight simulation.

An Investigation Into The Aerodynamics And Structural Integrity Of The 155 Mm M898 Projectile written by and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999 with categories.
The M898 sense-and-destroy armor (SADARM) projectile is a 155-mm counterbattery artillery projectile that ejects two submunitions against battlefield combat vehicles. The U.S. Army Armament Research, Development, and Engineering Center (ARDEC) recently funded an experiment designed to analyze the structural integrity and aerodynamic characteristics of the projectile. In particular, the experiment sought to investigate the possibility of a compromise in integrity at the base-body juncture. No evidence of this was discovered. The secondary aim of obtaining a complete set of aerodynamic coefficients for the M898 was related to recent minor design changes made to the round. The objective was to ensure that these changes did not result in a noticeable change in flight characteristics. All shots were temperature-conditioned to 120 deg F, thus providing a higher-than-normal launch Mach number. This resulted in an extension of the Mach-number regime of the existing spark range database. When compared with existing spark range data, no significant differences were noted. Aerodynamically, the M898 projectile is very similar to the M483A1. Despite a large existing aerodynamic database, three M483A1 projectiles were fired concurrently with the M898's in an effort to solidify the close comparison of the two round types. Comparison of the new M898 and M4S3A1 data confirms the aerodynamic similarity noted previously.

Aerodynamic Characteristics And Subsonic Flight Performance Of The Spin Stabilized 4 2 Inch M329a1e1 Mortar Projectile written by R. Kline and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1972 with categories.
An extensive study of the aerodynamic characteristics of the 4.2 in. M329A1E1 Mortar Projectile has been conducted. A spectrum of yaw levels up to 40 degrees and Mach numbers from 0.55 to 1.025 were covered in the Ballistic Research Laboratories (BRL) Transonic Range Facility. A Magnus wind tunnel test in the Ames 12 ft. Pressure Wind Tunnel involved boom and boattail effects on Magnus as well as static forces from moments. Mach numbers from 0.3 to 0.95 and angles of attack from 0 to 30 degrees (for a Mach number of 0.3) and 0 degrees to 20 degrees (for the higher Mach numbers) were considered. Shells instrumented with yaw sondes were fired at Wallops Island Facility of NASA. The theoretical differential equation of motion then was fitted to the resulting single plane angular motion data.

Estimation Of The Static Aerodynamic Characteristics Of Ordnance Projectiles At Supersonic Speeds written by Robert L. McCoy and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1973 with Aerodynamics, Supersonic categories.
A simplified flow field solution has been programmed in an attempt to improve the accuracy of estimates of the static aerodynamic characteristics of ordnance projectiles. It provides estimates of drag, normal force, static moment, and roll damping moment for pointed bodies of revolution at supersonic speed. The program combines the Van Dyke hybrid theory for potential flow, the Van Driest compressible turbulent boundary layer theory, and the Chapman-Sternberg model for supersonic base pressure. Good agreement is demonstrated between the theoretical and experimental data.

Long Range Dynamics Flight Experiments With The 155 Mm Projectile M483 written by William H. Mermagen and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1974 with categories.
Three series of flight tests have been made with yawsonde instrumented 155mm, M483 projectiles to determine the long range aerodynamic behavior and stability of the shell. Conducted over a two year period, these tests confirmed the stable behavior of the M483 under normal launch conditions, even at subsonic velocities. The results of efforts to induce yaw at launch, however, produced dramatic short flights in which large amplitude, unstable motions were observed. (Author).
