The Statistical Abstract of the United States, published since 1878, is the standard summary of statistics on the social, political, and economic organization of the United States. It is designed to serve as a convenient volume for statistical reference and as a guide to other statistical publications and sources. The latter function is served by the introductory text to each section, the source note appearing below each table, and Appendix I, which comprises the Guide to Sources of Statistics, the Guide to State Statistical Abstracts, and the Guide to Foreign Statistical Abstracts. This volume includes a selection of data from many statistical sources, both government and private. Publications cited as sources usually contain additional statistical detail and more comprehensive discussions of definitions and concepts. Data not available in publications issued by the contributing agency but obtained from the Internet or unpublished records are identified in the source notes.

On New Terrain written by Kim Moody and has been published by Haymarket Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-11-20 with Political Science categories.

“A detailed and provocative study of how capital has changed since the 1980s and its effects on the working class and political parties in the USA.” —Scottish Left Review On New Terrain challenges conventional wisdom about a disappearing working class and the inevitability of a two-party political structure as the only framework for struggle. Through in-depth study of the economic and political shifts at the top of society, Moody shows how recent developments in capitalist production impact the working class and its power to resist the status quo. He argues that this transformed industrial terrain offers new possibilities for organization in the workplace and opens doors for grassroots, independent political action strengthened by reemerging labor and social movements. From the logistics revolution to the unprecedented concentration of business and wealth in the hands of the one percent, On New Terrain examines the impact of the current economic terrain on the working class in the United States. Looking beyond the clichés of precarity and the gig economy, Moody shows that the working class and its own self-activity are essential in the global battle against austerity. “[A] masterful and much-needed book.” —Solidarity “Immediately shakes the reader by offering a hard hitting, concrete and sober analysis of the transformation of both the capitalist and working classes of the USA.” —Bill Fletcher, Jr., coauthor of Solidarity Divided “He explodes myths about the gig economy and the potential to transform the Democratic Party. Readers will put the book down convinced that there is a way for workers to win.” —LaborNotes

Applied Statistics For Economists written by Margaret Lewis and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012 with Business & Economics categories.

Economists have employed numerical information to understand economic phenomena since the origins of the modern discipline in the seventeenth century. While the methods for assessing such information are increasingly sophisticated, we continue to be interested in identifying and understanding trends and patterns in economic data. This text is an introduction to some of the tried-and-true quantitative methods used by economists. Its goal is to give students a background in these methods so they might do empirical economics in their upper-division economics courses. Hitherto, most economists have been forced to resort to business statistics or even general statistics texts in order to introduce quantitative methods to economists. This text moves beyond those and includes a wealth of examples and applications that are specifically relevant to economics

The African American Child Second Edition written by Yvette R. Harris and has been published by Springer Publishing Company this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-02-13 with Psychology categories.

Praise for the First Edition: "This book argues convincingly that children's cultural differences need to be recognized for any accurate understanding of their development. Pointing out the need for additional and more effectively designed research, Harris and Graham provide a valuable foundation for further investigations. This nonpolemic book should be in all libraries, filling an unfortunate gap. Highly recommended." --Choice This is an evenhanded examination of the challenges affecting the lives of African American children that emphasizes their strengths and resiliency rather than deficits. It is the only text to comprehensively consider the biological, emotional, social, and cultural domains of development in this population. The second edition reflects an acceleration of research on the development of racial identity in African American children, a shift from the dictates of "No Child Left Behind" to a more flexible approach to student academic evaluation, and changes in the economic conditions of African American children and their families. The book also reflects the increase in the number of African American children in foster care and those with incarcerated parents. New coverage also includes new information about the mental health of African Americans, and a new chapter on adolescent development. This new edition features updated statistical information on health problems, healthcare access, new diagnostic techniques, new treatment approaches, and the number of children of African origin. It provides an expanded discussion of the value of qualitative methodology, ethical issues in research, and a discussion of the characteristics of middle and upper class African American families. End-of-chapter discussion questions, an "Insiderís Voice" in each chapter that highlights important elements, and an "Issues Box" that highlights historic and legal issues also enhance the second edition. New to the Second Edition: New inclusion of information on African American adolescents A discussion of the impact of parental incarceration on the long- and short-term outcomes of African American children Updated statistical information on health, academic performance, language and literacy, and other issues Information about children of African origin and their families Information about middle and upper class African American families Expanded discussion of the value of qualitative methodology and ethical issues in research on African American children New diagnostic techniques and treatment approaches for sickle cell anemia Update on work with AA families and children in therapy and the role of community focused therapy A discussion of the role of self-efficacy on academic competence, the influence of NCLB on academic performance, and current initiatives to improve academic outcomes for African American children The current status of Oakland School Boardís Ebonics Resolution New information on Prosocial Behavior and Empathy and Aggressive/Antisocial behavior among African American children Expanded section on how communities affect the lives of African American children including research on African American children and the media End-of-chapter discussion questions "Insiderís Voice" and "Issues Box" features in each chapter

The Business Of Scholarly Publishing written by Albert N. Greco and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-03-31 with Business & Economics categories.

The financial, technological, and institutional challenges facing scholarly presses are more critical now than they have ever been. Sales channels have narrowed, costs have risen, and technological change and the push toward open access have drastically changed the economic landscape. However, the publishing and dissemination of scholarly books and journals remains essential to academic research. How are publishers adapting this evolving environment? In The Business of Scholarly Publishing, Albert N. Greco examines this question through a detailed analysis of the business of the scholarly publishing in the United States since World War II. Drawing on an extensive review of the literature, statistical sources, and real examples from the author's experience in the industry, this book analyzes the changing circumstances of scholarly publishing. Greco turns a critical eye to the product, price, placement, promotion, and costs of scholarly books and journals with a primary emphasis on the trajectory over the last ten years. By including books, journals, pre-prints, and online repositories, the book covers the diverse range of academic publications and explains how publishers can address contemporary challenges across formats. Greco also pays special attention to the history and development of scholarly books and journals, intellectual property issues, contracts, and the impact of technology. The first study wholly devoted to the subject, The Business of Scholarly Publishing offers critical insights into the evolving business strategies and structures of a resilient industry.
