Statistical Methods In Psychiatry And Related Fields written by Ralitza Gueorguieva and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-11-20 with Mathematics categories.

Data collected in psychiatry and related fields are complex because outcomes are rarely directly observed, there are multiple correlated repeated measures within individuals, there is natural heterogeneity in treatment responses and in other characteristics in the populations. Simple statistical methods do not work well with such data. More advanced statistical methods capture the data complexity better, but are difficult to apply appropriately and correctly by investigators who do not have advanced training in statistics. This book presents, at a non-technical level, several approaches for the analysis of correlated data: mixed models for continuous and categorical outcomes, nonparametric methods for repeated measures and growth mixture models for heterogeneous trajectories over time. Separate chapters are devoted to techniques for multiple comparison correction, analysis in the presence of missing data, adjustment for covariates, assessment of mediator and moderator effects, study design and sample size considerations. The focus is on the assumptions of each method, applicability and interpretation rather than on technical details. Features Provides an overview of intermediate to advanced statistical methods applied to psychiatry. Takes a non-technical approach with mathematical details kept to a minimum. Includes lots of detailed examples from published studies in psychiatry and related fields. Software programs, data sets and output are available on a supplementary website. The intended audience are applied researchers with minimal knowledge of statistics, although the book could also benefit collaborating statisticians. The book, together with the online materials, is a valuable resource aimed at promoting the use of appropriate statistical methods for the analysis of repeated measures data. Ralitza Gueorguieva is a Senior Research Scientist at the Department of Biostatistics, Yale School of Public Health. She has more than 20 years experience in statistical methodology development and collaborations with psychiatrists and other researchers, and is the author of over 130 peer-reviewed publications.

Statistics Of Medical Imaging written by Tianhu Lei and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-12-19 with Mathematics categories.

More work is being done in the statistical aspects of medical imaging, and this book fills the gap to provide a unified framework of study by presenting a complete look at medical imaging and statistics - from the statistical aspects of imaging technology to the statistical analysis of images. It provides technicians and students with the statistical principles that underlay medical imaging, as required reference material for researchers involved in the design of new technology. Illustrations are included throughout as are many real examples, and algorithms. The text also includes exercises developed out of the author's many years experience with studying the statistics of medical imaging.

Pharmacogenomics: From Discovery to Clinical Implementation is a complete reference aimed at building a solid foundation of the key concepts in this fast-moving knowledge area. The editors lined up a group of worldwide experts to contribute to the book. Following a consistent chapter structure, the authors cover the foundational aspects of pharmacogenomics in the first four chapters of the book that include basic concepts, drug metabolism, drug discovery and development, and testing. The second part of the book is dedicated to detailed studies of key health conditions and the potential therapeutic applications of pharmacogenomics. Diseases covered include diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, psychiatric disease, cancer, pulmonary and respiratory diseases, viral diseases, gastroenterology, autoimmune diseases, immunosuppressants, and, finally, an overview of computational resources. Pharmacogenomics: From Discovery to Clinical Implementation is the perfect resource for pharmaceutical science graduate students to learn the key concepts of the area. Researchers and graduate students in the related fields of Genetics, pharmacoepidemiology, molecular biology, and medicinal chemistry will also benefit of the structured approach of the book. - Provides an in-depth review of pharmacogenomics and its role in drug discovery/metabolism and its clinical impacts - Describes the practice of pharmacogenomics in the treatment of diabetes, cancers, cardiovascular diseases, psychiatric disorders, pulmonary diseases, infectious, gastroenterology, and autoimmune diseases - Uses a consistent chapter structure to support understanding of the fundamental concepts in the area

The Pacific Symposium on Biocomputing (PSB) 2006 is an international, multidisciplinary conference for the presentation and discussion of current research in the theory and application of computational methods in problems of biological significance. Presentations are rigorously peer reviewed and are published in an archival proceedings volume. PSB 2006 will be held January 3-7, 2006 at the Grand Wailea, Maui. Tutorials will be offered prior to the start of the conference.PSB 2006 will bring together top researchers from the US, the Asian Pacific nations, and around the world to exchange research results and address open issues in all aspects of computational biology. It is a forum for the presentation of work in databases, algorithms, interfaces, visualization, modeling, and other computational methods, as applied to biological problems, with emphasis on applications in data-rich areas of molecular biology. The PSB has been designed to be responsive to the need for critical mass in sub-disciplines within biocomputing. For that reason, it is the only meeting whose sessions are defined dynamically each year in response to specific proposals. PSB sessions are organized by leaders of research in biocomputing's “hot topics.” In this way, the meeting provides an early forum for serious examination of emerging methods and approaches in this rapidly changing field.

This resource provides thorough coverage of pharmacogenetics and its impact on pharmaceuticals, therapeutics, and clinical practice. It opens with the basics of pharmacogenetics, including drug disposition and pharmacodynamics. The following section moves into specific disease areas, including cardiovascular, psychiatry, cancer, asthma/COPD, adverse drug reactions, transplantation, inflammatory bowel disease, and pain medication. Clinical practice and ethical issues make up the third section, with the fourth devoted to technologies like genotyping, genomics, and proteomics. In the fifth part, chapters discuss the impact of key regulatory issues on the pharmaceutical industry.
