Renewable energy refers to energy resources that occur naturally and repeatedly in the environmental where it can be harnessed for human benefit that poses no major environmental problems. Wind power is one of leading ones among the new, renewable, clean and cheap resource. It describes the processes by which the wind is used to generate mechanical power or electricity by wind turbines which convert the kinetic energy in wind in to mechanical power. The total quality of this source is extremely large and various with time at any given location. Iraq is an oil country, but this does not prevent the possession of other inexhaustible resources such as solar, hydro and wind power. This book focused toward an wind energy, where the work was divided into four objectives namely; - Wind statistics: The statistical of wind data sets were analyzed using Weibull distribution functions. - Turbulence intensity: It is determine the performance and productivity of the wind turbines. - Wake effect: The effects of upstream on downstream wind turbine. - Financial analysis: Three methods have been used namely cost of energy, the ratio of the total returns, and the payback period.

Statistical analyses provide a valuable method for establishing initially the existence (or lack of existence) of a relationship between diverse data sets. Statistical methods also allow one to make quantitative assessments of the strengths of observed relationships. This paper reviews the essential techniques and underlying statistical bases for the use of correlative methods in solar wind-magnetosphere coupling studies. Techniques of visual correlation and time-lagged linear cross-correlation analysis are emphasized, but methods of multiple regression, superposed epoch analysis, and linear prediction filtering are also described briefly. The long history of correlation analysis in the area of solar wind-magnetosphere coupling is reviewed with the assessments organized according to data averaging time scales (minutes to years). It is concluded that these statistical methods can be very useful first steps, but that case studies and various advanced analysis methods should be employed to understand fully the average response of the magnetosphere to solar wind input. It is clear that many workers have not always recognized underlying assumptions of statistical methods and thus the significance of correlation results can be in doubt. Long-term averages (greater than or equal to 1 hour) can reveal gross relationships, but only when dealing with high-resolution data (1 to 10 min) can one reach conclusions pertinent to magnetospheric response time scales and substorm onset mechanisms.

Given a series of wind speeds and directions from the port of Fremantle the aim of this monograph is to detect general weather patterns and seasonal characteristics. To separate the daily land and sea breeze cycle and other short-term disturbances from the general wind, the series is divided into a daily and a longer term, synoptic component. The latter is related to the atmospheric pressure field, while the former is studied in order i) to isolate particular short-term events such as calms, storms and oscillating winds, and ii) to determine the land and sea breeze cycle which dominates the weather pattern for most of the year. All these patterns are described in detail and are related to the synoptic component of the data. Two time series models for directional data and a new measure of angular association are introduced to provide the basis for certain parts of the analysis.

The desire to reduce dependence on fossil fuels is resulting in numerous policy incentives for increased renewable energy sources within the power grid. Because wind generation is arguably the most affordable per MWh of the renewable energy sources it is growing nearly as quickly as conventional generation techniques. Due to this significant increase in wind penetration levels, numerous largescale wind integration studies have been produced to determine the reliability impacts of large-scale wind power. Using data from two large US wind interconnection studies, this thesis provides evidence that mesoscale meteorological models under-predict the variability in wind data particularly on short time scales, indicating that data from mesoscale meteorological models need to be used with caution for some types of analyses. These types of analyses include most notably regulating reserves, which are used to rebalance supply and demand on a second-by-second bias. This thesis will also describe and evaluate a new method for jointly quantifying the amount of spinning and regulating reserves required to meet reliability requirements within a balancing area with significant amounts of wind power using high resolution wind data. The method is based on jointly minimizing dispatch costs and reserve allocations, across two time scales (seconds to minutes, and minutes to hours) to satisfy North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Area Control Error (ACE) requirements.
