Emphasizing the importance of understanding and reducing process variation to achieve quality manufacturing performance, this work establishes how statistical process control (SPC) provides powerful tools for measuring and regulating manufacturing processes. It presents information derived from time-tested applications of SPC techniques at on-site process situations in manufacturing. It is designed to assist manufacturing organizations in explaining and implementing successful SPC programmes.

Quality is a topical issue in manufacturing. Competitive quality performance still eludes many manufacturers in the traditional industrialized countries. A lack of quality competitiveness is one of the root causes of the relative industrial decline and consequent trade imbalances which plague some Western economies. Many explanations are advanced for poor quality performance. Inadequate levels of investment in advanced technology, together with insufficient education and training of the workforce, are perhaps the most prominent. Some believe these problems are caused by a lack of awareness and commitment from top management, while others point to differences between industrial cultures. The established remedy is known as Total Quality Management (TQM). TQM requires a corporate culture change, driven from the top, and involving every employee in a process of never-ending quality improvement aimed at internal as well as external customers. The techniques deployed to achieve TQM include measures to improve motivation, training in problem-solving and statistical process control (SPC). Quality is, however, only one of the competitive pressures placed It is also upon the manufacturer by the modem global economy. imperative to remain economical and efficient, while increasing the flexibility and responsiveness of the design and manufacturing functions. Here the reduction or elimination of stock is of great importance, particularly as financial interest rates in the less successful manufacturing nations are frequently high. Product life cycles must become ever more compressed in response to the phenomenal design to-manufacture performance of some Pacific rim economies.

Integrated Statistical And Automatic Process Control written by G. Venkatesan and has been published by Alpha Science International, Limited this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This textbook covers mathematical process and stochastic modeling, algorithm development, simulation principles, analysis of simulation results to develop process regulation schemes for cost effective and efficient process control and statistical control procedures for producing quality products. Manufacturing processes, in order to provide good quality products that satisfy the needs of customers at affordable cost, need to be controlled during process operations. Different types of processes require different types of control that may be either simple or complex. In this book, an integrated statistical and process model of Automatic Process Control (APC) and Statistical Process Control (SPC) is developed by using the tools and techniques of the two different process control disciplines when overlapping at their interface. These regulation schemes and control procedures will be of practical use and value in industry through the hybrid process and quality control of the manufacturing processes and products.

This in-depth introduction to SPC examines the technical aspects of the practices and procedures that are used to apply the quality management system in manufacturing. As in the successful first edition, the author provides a description and history of SPC along with an analysis of how it is applied to control quality costs, productivity, product improvement, and work efficiency. New to this edition are an explanation of seven basic tools, new charts, and an exploration of current trends.

Attention has been focussed on quality improvement through the use of quality management systems and Statistical Process Control. The success of the approach has caused the message to cascade through the supplier chains, and companies in all industries, including those in the process industries, have become aware of the enormous potential of SPC, in terms of cost savings, improvements in quality, productivity and market share. This executive briefing brings together some of the foremost world authorities on SPC and describes what SPC is, how it has evolved in recent years and why it is important for industry in the 1990s.
