Im vorliegenden Band erkunden Musik-, Literatur- und KulturwissenschaftlerInnen verschiedene Positionen des 18. Jahrhunderts und deren Bedeutung für unsere Zeit. Zunächst werden im breiten Feld der Musikpraxis und Musiktheorie, aber auch der Literatur die spezifischen Stimmungsdiskurse und "Temperaturen" der Aufklärung untersucht. Im zweiten Teil rücken die Übertragungen von der Musik auf die Physiologie in den Fokus: Nicht einfach der Mensch, sondern der Mensch als resonierendes Instrument wird zunehmend Gegenstand der aufklärerischen Diskussion. Im dritten Teil erweist sich die Leitkunst der Musik als wegweisend für eine gleichzeitig harmonikal simultane wie für eine sukzessiv melodiebasierte Wissensordnung in den ästhetischen Disziplinen. Schließlich stellen Aktualisierungen den Anschluss an das zeitgenössische Kunstschaffen exemplarisch her, um aufzuzeigen, wie sehr die Paradigmen der Aufklärung auch heute noch von Relevanz sind.
