This two-volume set of texts explores the central facts and ideas of stochastic processes, illustrating their use in models based on applied and theoretical investigations. They demonstrate the interdependence of three areas of study that usually receive separate treatments: stochastic processes, operating characteristics of stochastic systems, and stochastic optimization. Comprehensive in its scope, they emphasize the practical importance, intellectual stimulation, and mathematical elegance of stochastic models and are intended primarily as graduate-level texts.

Lectures On Formal Methods And Performance Analysis written by Ed Brinksma and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-06-29 with Computers categories.
Traditionally, models and methods for the analysis of the functional correctness of reactive systems, and those for the analysis of their performance (and - pendability) aspects, have been studied by di?erent research communities. This has resulted in the development of successful, but distinct and largely unrelated modeling and analysis techniques for both domains. In many modern systems, however, the di?erence between their functional features and their performance properties has become blurred, as relevant functionalities become inextricably linked to performance aspects, e.g. isochronous data transfer for live video tra- mission. During the last decade, this trend has motivated an increased interest in c- bining insights and results from the ?eld of formal methods – traditionally - cused on functionality – with techniques for performance modeling and analysis. Prominent examples of this cross-fertilization are extensions of process algebra and Petri nets that allow for the automatic generation of performance models, the use of formal proof techniques to assess the correctness of randomized - gorithms, and extensions of model checking techniques to analyze performance requirements automatically. We believe that these developments markthe - ginning of a new paradigm for the modeling and analysis of systems in which qualitative and quantitative aspects are studied from an integrated perspective. We are convinced that the further worktowards the realization of this goal will be a growing source of inspiration and progress for both communities.

In a rapidly developing field like Operations Research, its easy to get overwhelmed by the variety of topics and analytic techniques. Paul Jensen and Jonathan Bard help you master the expensive field by focusing on the fundamental models and methodologies underlying the practice of Operations Research. Bridging the gap between theory and practice, the author presents the quantitative tools and models most important to understanding modern operations research. You'll come to appreciate the power of OR techniques in solving real-world problems and applications in your own field. You'll learn how to translate complex situations into mathematical models, solve models and turn models into solutions. This text is designed to bridge the gap between theory and practice by presenting the quantitative tools and models most suited for modern operations research. The principal goal is to give analysts, engineers, and decision makers a larger appreciation of their roles by defining a common terminology and by explaining the interfaces between the underlying methodologies. Features Divides each subject into methods and models, giving you greater flexibility in how you approach the material. Concise and focused presentation highlights central ideas. Many examples throughout the text will help you better understand mathematical material.

The field of Operations Research (OR) covers a wide range of mathematical topics. Because it is so broad, results and formulas relevant to the field are widely scattered in different texts and journals and can be hard to find. As the field continues to grow, OR practitioners and students need a convenient, one-stop source for the results relevant t

Interactive Operations Research with Maple: Methods and Models has two ob jectives: to provide an accelerated introduction to the computer algebra system Maple and, more importantly, to demonstrate Maple's usefulness in modeling and solving a wide range of operations research (OR) problems. This book is written in a format that makes it suitable for a one-semester course in operations research, management science, or quantitative methods. A nwnber of students in the departments of operations research, management science, oper ations management, industrial and systems engineering, applied mathematics and advanced MBA students who are specializing in quantitative methods or opera tions management will find this text useful. Experienced researchers and practi tioners of operations research who wish to acquire a quick overview of how Maple can be useful in solving OR problems will find this an excellent reference. Maple's mathematical knowledge base now includes calculus, linear algebra, ordinary and partial differential equations, nwnber theory, logic, graph theory, combinatorics, statistics and transform methods. Although Maple's main strength lies in its ability to perform symbolic manipulations, it also has a substantial knowledge of a large nwnber of nwnerical methods and can plot many different types of attractive-looking two-dimensional and three-dimensional graphs. After almost two decades of continuous improvement of its mathematical capabilities, Maple can now boast a user base of more than 300,000 academics, researchers and students in different areas of mathematics, science and engineering.
