Since their inception, the Perspectives in Logic and Lecture Notes in Logic series have published seminal works by leading logicians. Many of the original books in the series have been unavailable for years, but they are now in print once again. This volume, the twenty-second publication in the Lecture Notes in Logic series, will launch a discussion about the concept of intensionality in philosophy, logic, linguistics and mathematics. These articles grew out of a workshop held at the University of Munich in October, 2000. Some articles address philosophical issues raised by the possible worlds approach to intensionality; others are devoted to technical aspects of modal logic. The volume highlights the particular interdisciplinary nature of intensionality with articles spanning philosophy, linguistics, mathematics and computer science.

Ultrafilters Throughout Mathematics written by Isaac Goldbring and has been published by American Mathematical Society this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-06-13 with Mathematics categories.
Ultrafilters and ultraproducts provide a useful generalization of the ordinary limit processes which have applications to many areas of mathematics. Typically, this topic is presented to students in specialized courses such as logic, functional analysis, or geometric group theory. In this book, the basic facts about ultrafilters and ultraproducts are presented to readers with no prior knowledge of the subject and then these techniques are applied to a wide variety of topics. The first part of the book deals solely with ultrafilters and presents applications to voting theory, combinatorics, and topology, while also dealing also with foundational issues. The second part presents the classical ultraproduct construction and provides applications to algebra, number theory, and nonstandard analysis. The third part discusses a metric generalization of the ultraproduct construction and gives example applications to geometric group theory and functional analysis. The final section returns to more advanced topics of a more foundational nature. The book should be of interest to undergraduates, graduate students, and researchers from all areas of mathematics interested in learning how ultrafilters and ultraproducts can be applied to their specialty.

This ENCYCLOPAEDIA OF MATHEMATICS aims to be a reference work for all parts of mathe matics. It is a translation with updates and editorial comments of the Soviet Mathematical Encyclopaedia published by 'Soviet Encyclopaedia Publishing House' in five volumes in 1977-1985. The annotated translation consists of ten volumes including a special index volume. There are three kinds of articles in this ENCYCLOPAEDIA. First of all there are survey-type articles dealing with the various main directions in mathematics (where a rather fme subdivi sion has been used). The main requirement for these articles has been that they should give a reasonably complete up-to-date account of the current state of affairs in these areas and that they should be maximally accessible. On the whole, these articles should be understandable to mathematics students in their first specialization years, to graduates from other mathematical areas and, depending on the specific subject, to specialists in other domains of science, en gineers and teachers of mathematics. These articles treat their material at a fairly general level and aim to give an idea of the kind of problems, techniques and concepts involved in the area in question. They also contain background and motivation rather than precise statements of precise theorems with detailed definitions and technical details on how to carry out proofs and constructions. The second kind of article, of medium length, contains more detailed concrete problems, results and techniques.

This Festschrift volume contains papers presented at a conference, Prakash Fest, held in honor of Prakash Panangaden, in Oxford, UK, in May 2014, to celebrate his 60th birthday. Prakash Panangaden has worked on a large variety of topics including probabilistic and concurrent computation, logics and duality and quantum information and computation. Despite the enormous breadth of his research, he has made significant and deep contributions. For example, he introduced logic and a real-valued interpretation of the logic to capture equivalence of probabilistic processes quantitatively. The 25 papers included in this volume were carefully reviewed. They cover a large variety of topics in theoretical computer science.

A Unified Approach To Structural Limits And Limits Of Graphs With Bounded Tree Depth written by Jaroslav Nešetřil and has been published by American Mathematical Soc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-04-03 with Education categories.
In this paper the authors introduce a general framework for the study of limits of relational structures and graphs in particular, which is based on a combination of model theory and (functional) analysis. The authors show how the various approaches to graph limits fit to this framework and that the authors naturally appear as “tractable cases” of a general theory. As an outcome of this, the authors provide extensions of known results. The authors believe that this puts these into a broader context. The second part of the paper is devoted to the study of sparse structures. First, the authors consider limits of structures with bounded diameter connected components and prove that in this case the convergence can be “almost” studied component-wise. They also propose the structure of limit objects for convergent sequences of sparse structures. Eventually, they consider the specific case of limits of colored rooted trees with bounded height and of graphs with bounded tree-depth, motivated by their role as “elementary bricks” these graphs play in decompositions of sparse graphs, and give an explicit construction of a limit object in this case. This limit object is a graph built on a standard probability space with the property that every first-order definable set of tuples is measurable. This is an example of the general concept of modeling the authors introduce here. Their example is also the first “intermediate class” with explicitly defined limit structures where the inverse problem has been solved.

Boolean Algebras In Analysis written by D.A. Vladimirov and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-04-17 with Mathematics categories.
Boolean Algebras in Analysis consists of two parts. The first concerns the general theory at the beginner's level. Presenting classical theorems, the book describes the topologies and uniform structures of Boolean algebras, the basics of complete Boolean algebras and their continuous homomorphisms, as well as lifting theory. The first part also includes an introductory chapter describing the elementary to the theory. The second part deals at a graduate level with the metric theory of Boolean algebras at a graduate level. The covered topics include measure algebras, their sub algebras, and groups of automorphisms. Ample room is allotted to the new classification theorems abstracting the celebrated counterparts by D.Maharam, A.H. Kolmogorov, and V.A.Rokhlin. Boolean Algebras in Analysis is an exceptional definitive source on Boolean algebra as applied to functional analysis and probability. It is intended for all who are interested in new and powerful tools for hard and soft mathematical analysis.

Lattice Theory Foundation written by George Grätzer and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-02-14 with Mathematics categories.
This book started with Lattice Theory, First Concepts, in 1971. Then came General Lattice Theory, First Edition, in 1978, and the Second Edition twenty years later. Since the publication of the first edition in 1978, General Lattice Theory has become the authoritative introduction to lattice theory for graduate students and the standard reference for researchers. The First Edition set out to introduce and survey lattice theory. Some 12,000 papers have been published in the field since then; so Lattice Theory: Foundation focuses on introducing the field, laying the foundation for special topics and applications. Lattice Theory: Foundation, based on the previous three books, covers the fundamental concepts and results. The main topics are distributivity, congruences, constructions, modularity and semimodularity, varieties, and free products. The chapter on constructions is new, all the other chapters are revised and expanded versions from the earlier volumes. Almost 40 “diamond sections’’, many written by leading specialists in these fields, provide a brief glimpse into special topics beyond the basics. “Lattice theory has come a long way... For those who appreciate lattice theory, or who are curious about its techniques and intriguing internal problems, Professor Grätzer's lucid new book provides a most valuable guide to many recent developments. Even a cursory reading should provide those few who may still believe that lattice theory is superficial or naive, with convincing evidence of its technical depth and sophistication.” Bulletin of the American Mathematical Society “Grätzer’s book General Lattice Theory has become the lattice theorist’s bible.” Mathematical Reviews
