Nel mondo contemporaneo la scuola deve tener conto dei mutamenti in atto nella società in quanto il ruolo fondamentale che essa occupa la chiama a rispondere alle sfide poste dalla globalizzazione in termini di formazione e, dunque, di sviluppo di competenze teoriche, pratiche, sociali e cognitive. Il volume illustra il percorso di insegnamento della storia in prospettiva interculturale svolto in una classe terza di scuola primaria con l’intento di colmare il divario tra teoria e prassi e fornire alle alunne e agli alunni strumenti adeguati di analisi del presente e del passato. La padronanza delle conoscenze e la consapevolezza di come esse siano state prodotte, il saper usare gli operatori cognitivi, il saper argomentare i propri punti di vista nel rispetto di quelli altrui e nel riconoscimento della loro pluralità, la scoperta della propria identità individuale e sociale e lo sviluppo di identità culturali aperte hanno costituito gli obiettivi dell’intero percorso poiché fondamentali per l’acquisizione di una cultura storica in un’ottica interculturale.

The recent vast upsurge in social science scholarship on job precarity has generally little to say about earlier forms of this phenomenon. Eloisa Betti’s monograph convincingly demonstrates on the example of Italy that even in the post-war phase of Keynesian stability and welfare state, precarious labor was an underlying feature of economic development. She examines how in this short period exceptional politics of labor stability prevailed. The volume then presents the processes whereby labor precarity regained momentum— under the name of flexibility— in the post-Fordist phase from the early 1980s, taking on new forms in the Craxi and Berlusconi eras. Multiple actors are addressed in the analysis. The book gives voice to intellectuals, scholars, politicians and trade unionists as they have framed the concept and debates on precarious work from the 1950s onwards. Views of labor law experts, politicians and public servants are investigated in regard to labor regulations. Positions of the very precarians are explored, ranging from rural women, industrial homeworkers and blue-collar workers to physicians, university researchers and trainees, unveiling the emergence of anti-precarity social movements. The continuous role of women’s associations and feminist groups in opposing labor precarity since the 1950s is prominently exposed.

Viene a crearsi, così, un cortocircuito tra l’occupazione indispensabile a una vera azione politica nelle piazze e i contenuti da condividere sui social. Da qui l’incessante creatività che saccheggia i linguaggi dell’arte visiva. «Le arti che non realizzano alcuna opera hanno grande affinità con la politica», sosteneva Hanna Arendt. La Polonia appare come un esempio “all’avanguardia” della sospensione dei diritti fondamentali da parte della destra garante dei “valori tradizionali” e dell’ordine patriarcale contro cui le donne polacche hanno lanciato una sfida che non riguarda solo loro.

This collection offers a postcolonial critique of the ostensible superiority or originality of ‘Western’ political theory and one of its fundamental concepts, ‘citizenship’. The chapters analyse the undoing, uncovering, and reinventing of citizenship as a way of investigating citizenship as political subjectivity. If it has now become very difficult to imagine citizenship merely as nationality or membership in the nation-state, this is at least in part because of the anticolonial struggles and the project of reimagining citizenship after orientalism that they precipitated. If it has become difficult to sustain the orientalist assumption, the question arises; how do we investigate citizenship as political subjectivity after orientalism? This book was originally published as a special issue of Citizenship Studies.
