Parables were used by Jesus to reveal to us the kingdom of God and to move us from being bystanders to active recipients of God's work of revelation. However, parables are constantly at risk of being buried as 'mummies of prose', as George MacDonaldputs it. We become so familiar with the language of Scripture that Jesus' parables no longer work on us in this revelatory and transforming way. George MacDonald, the Victorian poet and theologian, observed this very process at work in Victorian society. It was a culture saturated with Christian jargon but often devoid of a profound understanding of the gospel for its own time and culture. The language of Scripture no longer penetrated people's hearts, imaginations, and attitudes; it no longer transformed people's lives. MacDonald, called to be a pastor, turned a story and more specifically the 'parabolic' as a means of spiritual awakening. He created fictive worlds in which the language of Jesus would find a new home and regain its revelatory power for his particular Victorian audience.

This title was first published in 2000. From the work of Hegel and Schelling to the dialectical theology of Barth, Bultmann and Gogarten, "Revelation" has developed a long, rich tradition of diverse thought, as well as many misunderstandings. Meaning, first and foremost, "God's encounter with those to whom God wishes to communicate God's own self", Revelation seeks to be recounted and communicated to others. As a theological expression, Revelation aims to direct our attention to the modes and areas in which we have a basis for expecting encounter with God - through stories, nature, the world as creation. From a rediscovered emphasis on "story", narrative theology has emerged - a concept the English-speaking world has welcomed for its neutrality between history and imaginative fiction and stress on narrative rather than doctrinal dimension of biblical text. This volume brings into relationship a concern with theology of revelation and an interest in the theology of story or narrative theology.

A Revelation Story Revealed written by Dr. T. R. Lawson and has been published by LifeRich Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-08-02 with Religion categories.

In his second book, “A Revelation Story Revealed”, Dr. T.R. Lawson reveals why he chose to write his first book, “A Revelation Story”, as he did. He takes the reader through each chapter of his previous book, explaining his thinking behind the writing choices he made and providing back up scriptures for them. While his first book was a fictional story, this book addresses much of the scripture which has to do with end-time events. Because the Book of Revelation is much like a jig saw puzzle with many pieces that must be properly fitted together, Dr. Lawson takes the reader on a line-by-line, chapter-by-chapter journey through it. “A Revelation Story Revealed” includes 28 Microstudies which are a treasure trove of scripturally backed studies that go into detail about various subjects including: “All About 666”; “Demotion Theory”; “The Great Tribulation”; “The Parable of 10 Virgins”; “Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream and Mystery Babylon”; “ The Doctrine of Balaam”; “Spiritual Switchism”; “Spiritual Maturity Theory”, and more. Dr. Lawson also includes his personal testimony, and the special sign God gave him which reveals a hidden trend throughout the Bible. Believing that as of December 6th, 2017, when the U.S. officially recognized Jerusalem as the official capital of Israel, the timeclock for the last generation has started, he feels called of God to be a specific voice to this last generation, as validated by his God-given sign. For any who don’t know the Lord, he invites you to come and know Him, and to personally experience His free gift of salvation. For those who do know the Lord, he encourages you to learn how to walk in spiritual maturity and overcome the evil one. This will be especially important in the coming days as we draw closer to the coming of the Lord and stand against the ever-increasing spiritual darkness that seeks to overtake the world.

Revelations written by Elaine Pagels and has been published by Penguin this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-03-06 with Religion categories.

A startling exploration of the history of the most controversial book of the Bible, by the bestselling author of Beyond Belief. Through the bestselling books of Elaine Pagels, thousands of readers have come to know and treasure the suppressed biblical texts known as the Gnostic Gospels. As one of the world's foremost religion scholars, she has been a pioneer in interpreting these books and illuminating their place in the early history of Christianity. Her new book, however, tackles a text that is firmly, dramatically within the New Testament canon: The Book of Revelation, the surreal apocalyptic vision of the end of the world . . . or is it? In this startling and timely book, Pagels returns The Book of Revelation to its historical origin, written as its author John of Patmos took aim at the Roman Empire after what is now known as "the Jewish War," in 66 CE. Militant Jews in Jerusalem, fired with religious fervor, waged an all-out war against Rome's occupation of Judea and their defeat resulted in the desecration of Jerusalem and its Great Temple. Pagels persuasively interprets Revelation as a scathing attack on the decadence of Rome. Soon after, however, a new sect known as "Christians" seized on John's text as a weapon against heresy and infidels of all kinds-Jews, even Christians who dissented from their increasingly rigid doctrines and hierarchies. In a time when global religious violence surges, Revelations explores how often those in power throughout history have sought to force "God's enemies" to submit or be killed. It is sure to appeal to Pagels's committed readers and bring her a whole new audience who want to understand the roots of dissent, violence, and division in the world's religions, and to appreciate the lasting appeal of this extraordinary text.
