Saul In Story And Tradition written by Carl S. Ehrlich and has been published by Mohr Siebeck this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with History categories.

The character of Saul and his place within the history, theology, and ideology of ancient Israel have fascinated interpreters for centuries. This book surveys the field of Saul studies. It includes in the first instance essays detailing Saul's place within the biblical narrative and its constituent parts (such as the Deuteronomistic History and the Chronicler's work). The possibility of identifying a Saulide period in the archaeological record is also discussed. A number of essays look at more specific themes and passages within the Saul cycle, such as his heroic nature, kingship, war, and literary balance. The final section of the book looks at the place of Saul within the post-biblical interpretative traditions, with essays devoted to Saul in the works of Josephus, in midrashic literature, in the Qur'an, in selected European literary texts, in the western artistic tradition, and in Handel's oratorio Saul. Contents: Carl S. Ehrlich: Introduction Avraham Faust: Settlement Patterns and State Formation in Southern Samaria and the Archaeology of (a) Saul Siegfried Kreuzer: Saul - not always - at War. The Call Of Moses And The Exodus Story written by Jaeyoung Jeon and has been published by Mohr Siebeck this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-05 with Religion categories.

Jaeyoung Jeon examines and assesses recently suggested models for the formation of the Pentateuch through a redactional-critical analysis of the Call of Moses (Exod. 3-4) and the Exodus story (Exod. 5-13). He observes that Exod. 3-4 was formed through a series of stages of Deuteronomistic composition and redaction, to which some post-Priestly additions were made. Comparative analysis suggests that the elements of Deuteronomistic formation precede P and that the direction of influence is from the non-P narrative (Exod. 3-4) to the P call narrative (Exod. 6). Jeon also shows that although some of the literary layers in Exod. 3-4 extend through the Exodus story (Exod. 5-13), the present form of the latter has been shaped by a post-Deuteronomistic but pre-Priestly composition based on an earlier proto-Exodus story. He therefore concludes that the Pentateuch or Hexateuch might be the product of a more complicated process of development than the current models describe.

Tales And Stories By Hans Christian Andersen written by Hans Christian Andersen and has been published by University of Washington Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-09-01 with Fiction categories.

Stories that have delighted children and fascinated adults for over a century are the heritage of Hans Christian Andersen. This collection has been selected and translated with the growing audience of adults--both students and general readers--in mind, and displays the full range of Andersen’s authorship, from parable to science fiction. In this fresh, contemporary translation Rossel and Conroy have endeavored to “preserve for the English-speaking audience the engaging duplicity of Andersen’s style, the tension of play between his sympathetic conversational tone and his use of the studied effect.” This is a tension between the simplicity of stories intended to be read aloud to children ad the subtlety of the allegory skillfully woven into each for the adults who would be listening and “must have something to think about,” as Andersen said. The introductions provide an overview of Andersen’s life and struggle to become an author, as well as an analysis of his contributions as an artist and storyteller. Each story has also been provided with an endnote giving publication dates, information about the genesis of the tale, and relevant comments by Andersen and other. Readers who remember with nostalgia such tales as “The Ugly Duckling” and “The Little Match Girl” may be surprised to find the biting satire in many of the stories, such as “The Nightingale” and “The Gardener and the Lord and Lady,” the revealing self-portraits of the author in “The Sweethearts,” “The Butterfly,” and “The Shadow,” the mysticism of “The story of a Mother” and “The Bell” the prophetic quality of “In a Thousand Years Time,” and the complexity and charm of “the Snow Queen.” The book contains the drawings of Vilhelm Pedersen and Lorenz Frolich that originally appeared in the first illustrated Danish editions of Andersen’s tales and stories.

The Nag Hammadi Story is not a history of research in the usual sense of a Forschungsbericht, which would report on the massive amount of scholarship that has been devoted to the content of the Nag Hammadi Codices for more than a half-century. Rather it is a socio-historical narration of just what went on during the thirty-two years from their discovery late in 1945, via their initial trafficking, and then the attempts to monopolize them, until finally, through the intervention of UNESCO, the whole collection of thirteen Codices was published in facsimiles and in English translation, both completed late in 1977.
