As you can imagine, coming out as a gay male can often times be a dramatic experience. But coming out while married and with children can be devastating to a family if done without extreme care and fore-thought. If you or someone you love is going through this process, it is important to note that you are not alone and that there are ways to go through the ordeal while maintaining a healthy relationship with your family. Men who find themselves at this cross road often feel very isolated, not knowing who they can turn to for help. As a result, they can make rash decisions that may have long term negative effects. Women, on the other hand, can find themselves confused, angry, ashamed and with very low self esteem. It is important for the man to acknowledge these emotions and to address each of them with compassion and understanding. This can be extremely difficult, especially if he is dealing with his own emotional turmoil. It is imperative, however, that both individuals step back from their own personal feelings and put their children's needs first. By doing this, there is a greater chance they will come out of the transition a stronger, more resilient family unit. Remember, being gay is not a choice. The choice we do have, however, is accepting who we are and, at the same time, maintaining a healthy relationship with those we love. This is our journey. "I am a gay father of two and I'm about half way through the coming out process. This book is an honest account of another family's story and has been extremely helpful for me to see things from my ex-wife's and children's point of view. The author's compassionate and understanding advice and insights have helped me steer a better course over the last year. I've gone back and re-read some chapters numerous times. I highly recommend this book to men, their wives and families!" Jim, Seattle "I see Joel's "coming out" life experience as extremely persuasive: speaking not only to other gay men, still in the closet, who live on the brink; engaging in the continual internal debate about whether, when and to whom to "come out." But I also see Joel's life experience speaking to the straight community. He is after all, like them in all other conventional respects, raises a family, attends church, and played it straight for as long as he could. He is commendable in all things that our society as a whole, values and rewards: honesty, hard work, compassion, and perhaps above all, courage." Tom Kochman, Chicago "I feel that I have gleaned so much from his rich and varied experiences. I know that I have learned so many invaluable lessons just reading his manuscript. It is very honest, raw, heartfelt and upfront. It speaks volumes to its gay readers and should have exactly the same effect on any heterosexual reader who has a broad mind and accepting heart." RJ Palacios, Philippines "I would like to thank the author for writing this book. I've never read anything like this and, although I don't know him personally, his story makes me think that we all are not so different from each other. No matter where we come from, what age we are, or from what creed, we all go through the same feelings and hurt at this crossroad we all share." Armand Grey, Philippines

As the father of a child raised in a Christian home, how should I respond to a child that professes a preference for a same sex relationship? What is my responsibility, and how do I love my child, and maintain a relationship in spite of obvious differences? How would you respond, and react if faced with the same situation? This book deals with some of the questions I've faced in my journey to understand this change, and the choice made by my child. It is written from a Christian perspective, and reflects on what God's word says about this lifestyle. Many professing Christian's have fallen for the prevailing world view. I've had my eyes opened and turned to God's word, His Holy Bible, to determine how I should respond. The Lord must be the ultimate authority, for a follower of Jesus Christ, and His word our source of comfort and hope.My prayer is that the church will turn back to God's word for direction, and not rely on what the world has to offer, in dealing with this lifestyle.

My book takes the reader through the journey of my life from my difficult birth in a Glasgow slum to the present day. I travelled the world with my job as a contract designer, and met many different kinds of people, some good and some bad, all of which I relate to my story. I also had many adventures along the way and many sexual interludes that in the end made me realise what I was and what I had to face up to. I was married young and had two children in the sixteen years that I endured in my unhappy marriage. I tried my best to be a good father and live as a gay man, trying hard to keep the two halves of my life together. My book relates my attempt at doing it. It was not easy for a gay man with two children to find lasting love and happiness. After a few disappointments in life I wondered if I would ever achieve it.

It can never be wrong to live with someone you are fond of. 5-year-old Jenny lives happily with her dad Martin and his partner Eric. From celebrating birthdays and eating breakfast in bed to playing board games and reading bedtime stories, their weekends are spent the same way as everyone else's. Well-received in Denmark, ́Jenny Lives with Eric and Martin ́ sparked a major debate when it was published in Britain two years later, resulting in a ban that prohibited teaching school children about homosexuality. Therefore, it is the ideal book for early readers as it serves as great educational material for those interested in learning about family structures that differ from their own. A beautiful story celebrating diversity and difference, ́Jenny Lives with Eric and Martin ́ is a perfect starting point for conversations about various family structures. Susanne Bösche (b. 1953), a self-taught writer, has been writing ever since she discovered that letters make words and words make stories. Her writing often aims to celebrate differences and the idea that you shouldn't be afraid of the unknown. This is present in her first books, ́Nede i Anitas kælder ́ ( ́Anita's Basement ́) and ́Er vi venner eller hvad ́ ( ́Are We Friends or Not ́), which centre around the themes of youth, sexuality, and friendships. In 1981 she published the picture book ́Mette bor hos Morten og Erik ́ (Mette Lives with Eric and Martin ́) which caused great controversy in Britain after its release.

NATIONAL BESTSELLER (The Globe and Mail) A moving memoir about growing up with a gay father in the 1980s, and a tribute to the power of truth, humour, acceptance and familial love. A true "It GOT Better" story. Alison Wearing led a largely carefree childhood until she learned, at the age of 12, that her family was a little more complex than she had realized. Sure her father had always been unusual compared to the other dads in the neighbourhood: he loved to bake croissants, wear silk pyjamas around the house, and skip down the street singing songs from Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. But when he came out of the closet in the 1970s, when homosexuality was still a cardinal taboo, it was a shock to everyone in the quiet community of Peterborough, Ontario—especially to his wife and three children. Alison’s father was a professor of political science and amateur choral conductor, her mother was an accomplished pianist and marathon runner, and together they had fed the family a steady diet of arts, adventures, mishaps, normal frustrations and inexhaustible laughter. Yet despite these agreeable circumstances, Joe’s internal life was haunted by conflicting desires. As he began to explore and understand the truth about himself, he became determined to find a way to live both as a gay man and also a devoted father, something almost unheard of at the time. Through extraordinary excerpts from his own letters and journals from the years of his coming out, we read of Joe’s private struggle to make sense and beauty of his life, to take inspiration from an evolving society and become part of the vanguard of the gay revolution in Canada. Confessions of a Fairy’s Daughter is also the story of “coming out” as the daughter of a gay father. Already wrestling with an adolescent’s search for identity when her father came out of the closet, Alison promptly “went in,” concealing his sexual orientation from her friends and spinning extravagant stories about all of the “great straight things” they did together. Over time, Alison came to see that life with her father was surprisingly interesting and entertaining, even oddly inspiring, and in fact, there was nothing to hide. Balancing intimacy, history and downright hilarity, Confessions of a Fairy’s Daughter is a captivating tale of family life: deliciously imperfect, riotously challenging, and full of life’s great lessons in love. Alison brings her story to life with a skillfully light touch in this warm, heartfelt and revelatory memoir.

Like many parents, Sushma and Vijay Agarwal expected both of their sons to grow up, marry a lovely girl, and raise a family. When their younger son told them in 2004 that he was gay, Sushma was devastated. She wanted to know why this had happened to her family, who was to blame, and what she should do next. To come to terms with her son’s sexual orientation, she began to educate herself about homosexuality, a topic that Sushma had no exposure to. She went to counseling and attended PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) meetings. After much soul searching and many conversations with her son, husband, and others, Sushma accepted her son for who he was. In Loving My Gay Child, Sushma reveals how she came to terms with her son’s orientation, shared the news with friends and family, and finally threw a beautiful traditional gay Hindu wedding for her son and his fiancé.
