Buildings grew, businesses boomed, and the (shareholders are busy trying to kill each other) leadership is knowledgeable. It was business as usual on this side of the galaxy. Save for the occasional miner that lost their mind and went on a killing spree, but that (only happens once every few months) never really happens, and those workers were probably just drug addicts. It's certainly a good thing B&G's security force was there to stop them, wasn't it?Especially since the newly-founded military was busy fighting against the bug-like aliens that live in the Desert. With everything needed to keep the new colony alive and thriving, it certainly has been a blessing to have found the sleeping aliens below in the mines. With the help of B&G's finest scientific minds, the sleeping creatures (were effectively turned into a mindless slave-class of aliens at the whim of their neural augmentations) given a new life in the service of the colony! The farms are (plagued by giant wolf attacks) yielding crops, the fishing is (more dangerous than the mining) bountiful, and the sun is always shining in Bertrand New!

The book gives an extended review of theoretical and observational aspects of neutron star physics. With masses comparable to that of the Sun and radii of about ten kilometres, neutron stars are the densest stars in the Universe. This book describes all layers of neutron stars, from the surface to the core, with the emphasis on their structure and equation of state. Theories of dense matter are reviewed, and used to construct neutron star models. Hypothetical strange quark stars and possible exotic phases in neutron star cores are also discussed. Also covered are the effects of strong magnetic fields in neutron star envelopes.
