The evolving security environment will demand more involvement and commitment from Belgian Defence, for which it is not yet sufficiently prepared. There is a need to develop a more proactive and anticipatory strategic culture as a result of increasing uncertainties and geopolitical changes. Belgian Defence needs to be able to fulfil its five missions – national readiness and resilience, collective defence, projecting forces abroad contributing to collective security, defence diplomacy and aid to Belgian society – which are interconnected with Belgium’s vital and strategic interests. Belgium cannot further reduce its range of capabilities. Belgian Defence needs to be able to play its role in all domains – land, air, sea, space, cyber and information. Despite major acquisitions during the preceding legislature, there are still shortfalls in our capabilities. Furthermore, capabilities need to be rebalanced between collective security and collective territorial defence. To meet the requirements for missions and capabilities, there is an urgent need of recapitalisation in personnel. The decrease in personnel needs to be reversed and shifted towards increasing recruitment and profile diversity. The current government will increase the defence expenditure to 1.24% of pre-COVID-19 GDP and future governments should align with the average of NATO non-nuclear European members, an average that has already surpassed 1.7%.There is a need to strike the right balance between missions, capacities, personnel and budget. A vibrant security and defence industry will enable Belgium to participate in multilateral research projects and capability initiatives that further the needs of Defence Belgium has to demonstrate to its partners that it will take its share of the burden and accept collective risks. Belgium acting as a free-rider would not be acceptable to its NATO and EU partners and allies.

Andaman & Nicobar Islands located over 1200 km to India’s East are nature’s bounty inherited by India during the process of our Independence. Located on the strategic Sea Lines of Communication connecting the Indian Ocean to the Asia-Pacific region and sitting at the entrance of the Malacca Straits, they provide India with strategic reach and could act as a launch pad in the geographical vicinity of South-East Asia. In this book, the authors have brought in their nuanced views on issues of geopolitical reality of the 21st century, the importance of these islands, and the contribution that these islands could make to the security of mainland India. The book initially provides an insight into the present global strategic environment focusing especially on the Indian Ocean Region, the Chinese ‘String of Pearls’ strategy as well as China’s ‘Malacca Dilemma’. It further brings out the strengths of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, their strategic significance and recommends a way ahead for their development. It finally suggests a set of comprehensive set of policy recommendations.

This book provides valuable insights into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) through a comprehensive examination of Vision 2030, an ambitious economic plan by the KSA to reinvent and diversify its economy from a heavy dependence on hydrocarbon to knowledge-based resources. Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Saudi Arabia: Vision 2030 discusses how this initiative will assist the government in achieving its envisioned goals by creating a culture of research, innovation and entrepreneurship. It studies the current state of the field as well as new policies and reforms in Saudi Arabia which encompass education systems, ICT infrastructure and a vibrant innovation landscape that includes academia, the public and private sectors and civil society. The authors present a number of real-life case studies as a model of inspiration for cross-sector development. The book provides a source of inspiration for other nations in studying the KSA’s determined and ambitious plans as a country in a transitioning journey, from a natural resources-based economy towards a knowledge-based country with considerable diversification in all sectors. This book is a useful reference for students, researchers and policy and decision-makers in understanding Saudi innovation and the economic diversification ecosystem.

In the context of the revitalised ERA Communication, this study sets out a stakeholder-driven, strategic Vision 2030 for the future of universities in Europe in research and innovation. Recognising Europe's diverse university landscape, the study considers the extent to which - and how - universities' ongoing transformations might best be supported through EU support (e.g. policy changes, funding, legal mechanisms). The Vision is underpinned by European values, such as respecting institutional autonomy and academic freedom, scientific and research excellence by exploiting universities' investments in fundamental research, delivery societally-relevant research, maintaining trust, equality of opportunity and inclusivity, and openness based on reciprocity from third countries (e.g. through open science, open access and open data approaches in which Europe excels).

This book focuses on Egypt as a representative example of emerging economies struggling to achieve their sustainable development goals (SDGs). The Egyptian government has launched Egypt’s Vision 2030 in line with the 2030 Agenda, also known as the Sustainable Development Strategy (SDS), which encompasses the economic, social and environmental dimensions of development. It is under the SDS that all development plans in Egypt are incorporated while at the same time being strongly guided by the SDGs. Aware of the principle of shared but differentiated responsibility, Egypt also recognizes that fundamental challenges remain, despite a strong willingness to achieve the SDGs. High birth rates, brain drain phenomena, water scarcity, migration, discrimination against women and girls, a growing informal sector and instability in neighboring states (especially Libya and Syria) are only some of the many hindrances to sustainable development. In order to address these challenges, Egypt relies heavily on the SDGs, which are aimed at transforming our world. Although there is an urgent need for a drastic change in the way we use the Earth, the question arises as to whether the SDGs are sufficient to facilitate such a transformation. This book explores the key environmentally related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and offers a cutting-edge assessment of current progress with a view to reaching these objectives by 2030. The book highlights some of the key findings and ideas for how research may help achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals in enterprises. The book provides a useful framework that can help and aid the Egyptian government to assess the many goals and targets outlined in the 2030 Agenda. The analysis of Egypt can be used as a blueprint for other developing nations and globally in order to guide policy toward achieving the SDGs. Covering food security, water resilience, climate change, agronomics, rural life, environmental impact assessment as a tool for measuring the achievement of the goals, Egyptian education, the COVID-19 pandemic, cultural and societal dimensions, this book will be of great interest to students and scholars of sustainable development and climate change, as well as practitioners and policymakers involved in sustainable development and disaster management.

Ilara-Mokin Vision 2030 is a 10-year strategic development plan for the Africa City of Hope, Ilara-Mokin, Nigeria. The book lays out the goals for the town and the strategic objectives to achieve the goals.Ilara-Mokin, is a medium-sized town in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State. The town is located about 12 kilometers south-west of the state capital. With a population of about 75,000, Ilara-Mokin is a university town, headed by a traditional ruler, His Royal Highness, the Alara of Ilara-Mokin, Oba Aderemi Adefehinti, Agbekorun II. The town is mostly an agrarian community with some private and public schools and several thriving small businesses. The Mokins, as the citizens of this town are fondly called, are characteristically peace-loving, hardworking, and culturally entrenched people. The citizens are so resilient, that the town could be called the "City of Hope". THE NEED FOR A STRATEGIC PLANThe need for a strategic plan, also known as Vision 2030, by this noble town, was conceived in 2019 by the Executive Council of Egbe Omo Ilara-Mokin, led by the President, Mr. Ayodele Fadola. This singular act of patriotism was announced during Mokin Day 2019 celebrations. Vision 2030 committee was met with fanfare on social media because of the big vision of the EGBE and the caliber of members of the committee. However, this will not be the first 10-year development plan by the town. The first ten-year blueprint [strategic plan] ever developed by Egbe Omo Ilara-Mokin was written in 1979, at the inception of the organization. The achievements made thereof, have lend themselves to today's opportunities upon which Vision 2030 is being designed.Members of the committee are as follows:a)Professor Solomon Fakinlede - Chairman b)Professor Emmanuel Olugbenga Fakoya - Secretaryc)Mr. Kayode Adewumi - Assistant Secretaryd)Chief Isaac Ogundari - Membere)Professor Helen Ogunsuyi - Memberf)Professor Festus Mayowa Adebiyi - Memberg)Hon.
