Street Survivor written by Artimus Pyle and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017 with Drummers (Musicians) categories.

(Book). Artimus Pyle, a Marine, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, and the "Wild Man" of southern rock, is one of the last surviving members of Lynyrd Skynyrd. He played drums with the band during its seventies heyday. He is the first bandmate to write about the tortuous rise and tragic fall of the Jacksonville hell raisers, offering detailed insights into the band's complex personalities and anthemic music. Packed with anecdotes of booze-fueled violence and destruction, he also lays out the exquisite musicianship and sheer hard work that transformed Lynyrd Skynyrd into one of America's greatest rock 'n' roll bands. It all came to an end on October 20, 1977, when four shows into a world tour to promote its new album, Street Survivors , the band's rickety private plane ran out of gas just minutes from its destination, and crashed into a Mississippi swamp. Artimus survived, but three of his bandmates including leader Ronnie Van Zant did not. Artimus recounts every moment of that flight, as well as the days leading up to the crash, and the years of painful recovery. Remarkably, he would encounter even greater challenges when he was falsely accused of horrific crimes. But Artimus is a survivor with a keen sense of humor, and he continues to perform Lynyrd Skynyrd music with just as much energy and precision as in his youth.

Safe Haven written by Rae Bridgman and has been published by University of Toronto Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-01-01 with Social Science categories.

In this groundbreaking work, urban anthropologist Rae Bridgman, in careful and intimate detail, explores the perspectives of the women who work and live at Savard's, a unique shelter for homeless women. Bridgman uses the design and development of Savard's - a housing model developed by women for women - as an opportunity to document the project's original vision and what happened once it opened. There are few rules at Savard's. Women may come and go as they wish, and referrals to other services are made only when a woman has indicated interest in taking action on her own behalf. It is a model that aims to provide a safe haven for the chronically homeless. The study traces the evolution of this type of shelter, providing qualitative research and useful analysis for academics, policy-makers, service providers, and activists. Based on many hours of participant observation as well as interviews and staff records, Safe Haven presents a distinct picture of the chronically homeless and those on the frontlines of this lifesaving service.

The Achilles Trap written by Steve Coll and has been published by Random House this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-02-27 with History categories.

From the Pulitzer Prize winner and bestselling author of Ghost Wars, the inside story of America's long and ruinous relationship with Saddam Hussein The Achilles Trap masterfully untangles the people, ploys of power and geopolitics that led to America's disastrous war with Iraq and, for the first time, details America's fundamental miscalculations during its ruinous, decades-long relationship with Saddam Hussein. Beginning with Saddam's rise to power in 1979 and the birth of Iraq's secret nuclear weapons programme, Steve Coll traces Saddam's motives through understanding his inner circle. He brings to life the diplomats, scientists, family members and generals who had no choice but to defer to their leader - a leader directly responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, as well as the torture or imprisonment of many more. This was a man whose reasoning was impossible to reduce to a simple explanation, and the CIA and successive presidential administrations failed to grasp critical nuances in his paranoia, resentments and inconsistencies - even when the stakes were incredibly high. Using unpublished and underreported sources, interviews with surviving participants, and Saddam's own transcripts and audio files, The Achilles Trap is a remarkable picture of a dictator who was convinced the world was out to get him and acted accordingly. A work of great historical significance, it is the definitive account of how corruptions of power, lies of diplomacy and vanity - on both sides - led to avoidable errors of statecraft: ones that would enact immeasurable human suffering and forever change our political landscape.

Corn Flakes With John Lennon written by Robert Hilburn and has been published by Rodale this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-10-12 with Music categories.

Robert Hilburn's storied career as a rock critic has allowed him a behind-the-scenes look at the lives of some of the most iconic figures of our time. He was the only music critic to visit Folsom Prison with Johnny Cash. He met John Lennon during his lost weekend period in Los Angeles and they became friends. Bob Dylan granted him his only interviews during his "born-again" period and the occasion of his 50th birthday. Michael Jackson invited Hilburn to watch cartoons with him in his bedroom. When Springsteen took to playing only old hits, Hilburn scolded him for turning his legendary concerts into oldies revues, and Springsteen changed his set list. In this totally unique account of the symbiotic relationship between critic and musical artist, Hilburn reflects on the ways in which he has changed and been changed by the subjects he’s covered; Bono weighs in with an introduction about how Hilburn’s criticism influenced and altered his own development as a musician. Corn Flakes with John Lennon is more than about one man’s adventures in rock and roll: It’s the gripping and untold story of how popular music reshapes the way we think about the world and helps to define the modern American character.
