Have you ever found yourself standing at the crossroads of who you are, where you came from, and where you’re headed? If so, you’re in good company. "Echoes of the Ancestors: A Path Through Post-Colonial Identity" is an invitation to journey through the tangled, vibrant web of heritage and history that shapes us all—especially those living in the aftermath of colonialism. This book isn’t just a personal memoir; it’s a tapestry woven from countless voices, stories, and experiences that echo across generations. From the first page, you’ll be swept into evocative narratives and lyrical reflections that explore what it means to carry the weight—and the wonder—of ancestral legacy. Each chapter is a thematic exploration, guiding you through Africa’s historical roots, the seismic disruptions of colonial rule, and the ongoing quest for self-discovery and cultural revival. What sparked this exploration? It began with a yearning to understand my own roots, to trace the footsteps of those who came before me, and to confront the colonial shadows that still linger. The journey hasn’t been easy—traditional values often clash with the relentless tide of modern influences, and the scars of history run deep. Yet, within this struggle lies resilience, community, and the unbreakable spirit of those determined to reclaim authenticity. This book is more than a chronicle of the past; it’s a call to introspection. I want you, the reader, to question the narratives that have shaped you, to celebrate the beautiful complexities of your identity, and to find connection in shared stories. As we walk this path together, may you discover not just the echoes of your ancestors, but also the strength and hope that come from embracing your own journey. Let’s step forward—together—into the chapters ahead.

This book offers unique insights. Teachings from the Asháninka, Mazatec, Cocama, and the Navajo are recounted, which the author had the fortune to receive while spending extended periods with them. A unique and first-hand perspective of the world of Traditional Indigenous Medicine (TIM) and ayahuasca, and its complex world of plants, purging, and isolation is presented. The importance of spirituality and the need to deal with our past traumas are explored. The most representative authors in fields related to TIM and psychedelics are reviewed, and so are others, relatively unknown but very relevant. Innovative procedures in psychology and medicine are assessed. The School of Psychotherapy, Oxígeme, is also presented. The book analyses the abuse of sacred substances and psychedelic culture, potential positive discoveries, and disturbing contradictions and dangers. This book would appeal to readers ranging from the general public interested in the indigenous worlds, psychology, and spirituality, to more specialized audiences in the fields of anthropology, psychology, medical doctors, and health professionals in general.

"This book illuminates distinct Buddhist practices amongst meditators of African descent. It includes interviews, dharma talks, and writings of more than sixty-five Black Buddhist teachers and long-term practitioners. In lifting up the distinctive voices and practices of Black Buddhists within American Buddhism, this book emphasizes the interpretations and practices of Black Buddhists. This book identifies specific causes and conditions for suffering, such as the transatlantic slave trade, the auction block, lynchings, migrations, and contemporary state violence, that have led Black Buddhist teachers to prioritize healing intergenerational trauma as a foundation for Black liberation. In pointing the horrific conditions manifested by patriarchy, misogyny, cisgender normativity, Black Buddhists assert that healing intergenerational trauma is foundational of psychological and spiritual liberation. Relatedly, this book delves into the importance that Black Buddhists place on honoring ancestors-biological and spiritual-as forebears who survived hostile and degrading conditions. Furthermore, this book illuminates the ways in which Black Buddhists privilege the body, even as it has been degraded, as a vehicle for liberation. Finally, this book argues that all of these distinct components of Black Buddhist practice fulfill the quest for psychological liberation evoked in the Black Radical Tradition"--
