This road map will guide the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in strengthening its approach to disability-inclusive development. The publication sets out a practical route to greater disability inclusion in ADB projects, research, and organizational systems, focusing first on short- and medium-term actions. Its aims include supporting the active participation and empowerment of people with disabilities and increasing the capacity and knowledge of ADB staff. These activities will create the foundation for a more comprehensive and integrated approach to disability-inclusive development at ADB in the longer term and will support implementation of the bank's corporate Strategy 2030 across operational priorities.

ADB’s Strategy 2030’s first operational priority focuses on addressing remaining poverty and reducing inequalities through a three-pronged strategy: investing in human capital and social protection, facilitating access to good-quality jobs, and reducing inequality of opportunity through such means as removing barriers to access to services and infrastructure, especially for the poor and vulnerable. The Strategy commits ADB to increasing its emphasis on social inclusion and human development to address the non-income dimensions of poverty. This road map provides a framework to support disability-inclusive development, focusing first on short- and medium-term actions and building an inclusive organizational culture that can accelerate and strengthen the implementation of Strategy 2030 goals and priority areas.

This report reflects on the support ADB has provided since 2015 to help its developing member countries achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With a focus on four thematic clusters—people, planet, prosperity, and sustainable infrastructure—as well as crosscutting themes of mobilizing finance and enhancing knowledge, it showcases diverse examples of the bank’s impactful projects and initiatives. Disability Inclusion In Humanitarian Crises written by Carolin Funke and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-01-11 with Social Science categories.

This open access book studies disability inclusion in humanitarian crises. It addresses the challenges of recognizing and including persons with disabilities and indicates the degree to which disability is being mainstreamed in international law and humanitarian action. Further, it explores how international organizations have promoted a rights-based understanding of disability in international law, and to what extent this understanding has gained acceptance in humanitarian policy and practice. Theoretically, Funke and Dijkzeul explore the robustness of the disability inclusion norm cluster during processes of institutionalization, translation, and implementation. The book examines these processes from a multi-level perspective, which involves a variety of actors beyond states, including organizations of persons with disabilities. Situating their analysis within the literature on humanitarian action and development, the authors argue for an increased focus on processes “below” the international level in international relations and international law scholarship to better understand disability inclusion.

Handbook Of Disability written by Marcia H. Rioux and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-04-03 with Social Science categories.

This important reference work maps the terrain of disability across the world by providing an overview of issues, concerns and developments in the domains of society, culture, medicine, law, policy, justice, education, economics, and science and technology. It is a truly inclusive volume bringing together perspectives from researchers, activists, professionals, service providers, international development experts and policymakers based in the global North and South, and it particularly focuses on the voices of the principal stakeholders---disabled persons themselves. Working from an interdisciplinary matrix, this book reviews historical developments, contemporary practices and policies . It addresses hitherto unchartered areas in the disability discourse that will be significant in the years to come. In the modern world, the social and medical responses to disability have been separation, segregation and incarceration of disabled people. These responses are reflected in practices of special education, building of asylums, medical classifications and sheltered employment. Current thinking on disability is based on the need to overcome such segregation through the enactment of human rights and socially just programmes, policies and laws such as inclusive education, affirmative action, reasonable accommodation, and supported decision-making. This book explores: · The evolution of the concept of disability over space and time and identifies approaches to disability, debility, equality and equity; · Broad trends in research on disability across the world; · New directions in work on disability; · The emergence of a global disability movement and its etiology; · Intersections of disability with other demographic variables like gender, race, caste, and age; and · Historical and socio-economic interfaces with colonialism, globalization, and social development. Spread over14 sections and spanning more than 80 chapters, this volume is the most comprehensive, up-to-date reference work available on the subject.

Activists in Transition examines the relationship between social movements and democratization in Indonesia. Collectively, progressive social movements have played a critical role over in ensuring that different groups of citizens can engage directly in—and benefit from—the political process in a way that was not possible under authoritarianism. However, their individual roles have been different, with some playing a decisive role in the destabilization of the regime and others serving as bell-weathers of the advancement, or otherwise, of Indonesia's democracy in the decades since. Equally important, democratization has affected social movements differently depending on the form taken by each movement during the New Order period. The book assesses the contribution that nine progressive social movements have made to the democratization of Indonesia since the late 1980s, and how, in turn, each of those movements has been influenced by democratization.
