This book was written to assist counselors in developing comprehensive developmental counseling programs for kindergarten through grade 12. It is intended to serve as a planning, implementation, and evaluation guide for a comprehensive program. Chapter I discusses why it is important to plan the development of a school counseling program. Chapter II notes that the first step in planning a comprehensive developmental counseling program requires securing a commitment from the counseling staff. The formation and tasks of an advisory committee is the focus of the chapter. Chapter III presents the first three components of a comprehensive plan: philosophy, rationale, and needs assessment. Chapter IV asserts that the counseling program is planned, implemented, monitored, and evaluated in a systematic way by establishing goals and objectives. These goals and objectives are the focus of chapter IV. Chapter V, concerned with improving the counseling program, focuses on program evaluation. Useful sample materials are provided throughout the book. Chapter VI provides a discussion of elements necessary if counselors are to participate fully in meeting the demands of excellent education for all students. Essential elements discussed in the chapter include continuing education for counselors; in-service training of teachers by counselors; improving interpersonal communication skills; guided classroom activities; classroom climate; working effectively with the administration; and public relations. The document concludes with a brief summary chapter and list of references. (NB)

School counselors often struggle to feel confident in delivering effective assistance to students due to a variety of reasons that currently do not have enough research or information developed. This leads to a struggle for counselors to adequately address tough and relevant issues. With these issues remaining unaddressed, or addressed less effectively, there is a concern that school counselors cannot mitigate these issues due to not being adequately informed. This can lead to a lifetime of consequences for students. Strengthening School Counselor Advocacy and Practice for Important Populations and Difficult Topics presents emerging research that seek to answer the tough and often unaddressed questions, target present-day issues of student populations, and prepare school counselors to feel confident and competent in their counseling and advocacy practice. These chapters, using the newest information available, will address these concerns and provide the best counseling work possible for underserved populations. While covering research on counseling for students with chronic illnesses, mixed-statuses, family issues, minority students, LGBTQ+ youth, and more, this book is ideal for school counselors, counseling educators, practitioners, stakeholders, researchers, academicians, and students who are interested in school counseling and meeting the needs of diverse and important populations of students.

Residential Treatment Of Adolescents written by Don Pazaratz and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-03-17 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

In Residential Treatment of Adolescents, Pazaratz discusses how practitioners can remain emotionally available for the needs of their residents without feeling overwhelmed. Readers will be apprised of ways to deal judiciously with residents who try to circumvent, con, play workers off each other, and even attempt to seduce or manipulate the worker. Each chapter instructs readers to observe their clients and comprehend how they relate to the total environment, in order to determine what the resident is feeling and how he or she makes use of personal resources. This contextual understanding helps to answer questions such as: What are the youngster’s goals? What factors obstruct the change process? What are the youngster’s defenses and against what? How does the youngster use the milieu (staff and peers) and the community as resources? How can the youngster get significant others to react differently to him or her? Ultimately, Pazaratz demonstrates that effective treatment staff do not create dependent youth, make treatment oppressive, or enact a role based upon giving consequences. Instead, the reader will learn to integrate diverse intervention strategies into the resident’s normal cycle of daily life and how to interact within a team structure.

Five phases for establishing and improving Pre-K-12 comprehensive guidance and counseling programs serve as the organizational framework for this enduring, influential textbook written for counselor educators and their students, school leaders, practicing school counselors, and state or district supervisors. The fifth edition of this bestseller expands and extends Gysbers and Henderson's acclaimed model for planning, designing, implementing, evaluating, and enhancing counseling programs and has been fully updated to reflect current theory and practice, including knowledge gained through various state and local adaptations of the model since publication of the last edition. New to this edition are increased attention to diversity and the range of issues students present, counselor accountability, and the roles and responsibilities of district- and building-level guidance and counseling leaders in an increasingly complex educational environment. An abundant array of examples, sample forms, job descriptions, evaluation surveys, flyers, letters, and procedures used by various states and school districts clearly illustrate each step of program development. At the end of each chapter, a new feature called "Your Progress Check" functions as a tracking tool for growth at each stage of the change process. This book is divided into five parts: (1) Planning; (2) Designing; (3) Implementing; (4) Evaluating; and (5) Enhancing. Appended are: (1) American School Counselor Association Ethical Standards for School Counselors; (2) Guidelines and Template for Conducting an Annual Time-Task Analysis; (3) Guidance Program Evaluation Surveys; (4) Sample Board of Education Policies for Referrals and for Student Guidance and Counseling Programs; (5) Sample Job Descriptions; (6) Procedures for Helping Students Manage Personal Crises; (7) Impact of Program Balance and Ratio on Program Implementation; (8) Multicultural Counseling Competencies; (9) a Procedure for Addressing Parental Concerns; (10) Presenting ...
