In Strong Advocate, Thomas Strong, one of the most successful trial lawyers in Missouri’s history, chronicles his adventures as a contemporary personal injury attorney. Though the profession is held in low esteem by the general public, Strong entered the field with the right motives: to help victims who have been injured by defective products or through the negligence of others. As a twelve-year-old in rural southwest Missouri during the Great Depression, Strong bought a cow, then purchased others as he could afford them, and eventually financed his education with the milk he sold. After graduating law school and serving in the Army’s Counter Intelligence Corps, he rejected offers to practice in New York and San Francisco and returned to his hometown of Springfield. Strong exhibited his lifelong passion to represent the underdog early in his practice, the “trial by ambush” days when neither side was required to disclose witnesses or exhibits. He quickly became known for his audacious approach to trying cases. Tactics included asking a friend to ride on top of a moving car and hiring a local character called “Crazy Max” to recreate an automobile accident. One fraud case ended with Strong owning a bank and his opponent going to prison. When he sued a labor union for the wrongful death of his client’s spouse, he found his own life threatened. With changes in the law that allowed discovery of information from an opponent’s files as well as the exhibits and witnesses to be used at trial, Strong and fellow personal injury attorneys forced a wide array of manufacturers to produce safer products. When witnesses of a terrible collision claimed both roadways had green lights simultaneously, Strong purchased the traffic light controller. After three months of continuous testing at a university, the controller failed, showing four green lights, and Strong learned that fail-safe devices were available but had not been implemented. These fail-safe devices are now standard on traffic lights throughout the country. In his last venture, Strong represented the state of Missouri in its case against the tobacco industry, culminating in a settlement totaling billions of dollars. He reflects on the changes—not always for the better—in his oft-maligned profession since he entered the field in the 1950s. Thomas Strong’s story of tenacity, quick wits, and humor demonstrates what made him such a creative and effective attorney. Lawyers and law students can learn much from this giant of the bar, and all readers will be entertained and heartened by his victories for the everyman.

Joe Biden is a seasoned American politician who was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, in 1942. After graduating from the University of Delaware with a degree in history, he went on to become the sixth-youngest senator in U.S. history at the age of 29. Biden served as a senator from Delaware for 36 years and ultimately became the 47th vice president of the United States under President Barack Obama from 2009 to 2017. During his tenure, Biden focused on domestic and foreign policy issues, including his efforts to advance the Affordable Care Act, reform the nation's gun laws, and promote LGBTQ rights. He also played a leading role in U.S. foreign policy, particularly in the areas of Iraq, Ukraine, and China. After his tenure as vice president ended, Joe Biden declared himself a candidate for the Democratic 2020 presidential nomination. He ran on a platform that emphasized the need for national unity, economic opportunity for all Americans, and a commitment to restoring America's position in global affairs. On November 7, 2020, Joe Biden was declared the winner of the 2020 presidential election, with running mate Kamala Harris as his vice president. He assumed office on January 20, 2021, and has since taken swift action on a range of domestic and international issues, including the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, and social justice reforms. His presidency has also been marked by a call for bipartisanship and national unity in the face of deep political divisions.

This isn't one of your average estate planning books nor is it about wills and trusts for dummies or financial planners. It isn't about death, dying and bereavement. This is a personal journal to help guide you and your mother through some of the end of life planning together so that she will have the peace of mind knowing after her passing her family will not have to struggle through the challenges of lawyers and accountants and wills and courts and fighting over estates and...and...and...It's also about making the most of your remaining time together.Life happens. Some things you can't do much about. Others, you can. You are watching your mother die from a terminal illness, and you want the rest of your time together to count but you feel a bit helpless, and maybe not exactly sure what to do. Here's a smart idea. Seize the opportunity to be her Strong Advocate. Mom needs you to ensure that her final days are as calm, comfortable and pain free as possible. Someone to hold doctors accountable to the best treatment available. Someone to make sure that her personal affairs are in order and her family is looked after. She needs and trusts you to be her strong advocate, and to do it right.Think of this as your own personal journal for end-of-life planning for mom, and not some cold off-the-shelf estate planning book about wills and trusts.Be confident that this journal will help guide you through some of the complexities of end-of-life planning as it prompts you to consider things like medical, financial, legal, spiritual, and estate organization. The back section of your journal also has extra pages to collect your thoughts and document important events. Having an advocate for health care these days is a very good thing, but a big part of the transition through end-of-life that will help comfort your mom in her last days will be knowing that everything has been taken care of and that your family won't be burdened by all the matters of estate after her passing. But here's a hard reality of being the strong advocate for your mother. If you haven't got what it takes to be that advocate, or maybe you're going to be that emotionally charged son or daughter that is out to crusade for your mom's health and focus on nothing else, then maybe you want to rethink your role a bit. She doesn't need you to be on an emotional campaign. She needs you to be there for her.So if that's not you, then find the right person and give them a copy of this journal and consider other ways that you can help.Your mother is trusting you to give peace of mind to everyone so do it. Get organized with this end-of-life planning journal and make things easier for you and those around you.

Historical Dictionary Of New Zealand written by Janine Hayward and has been published by Rowman & Littlefield this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-10-20 with History categories.

Diverse elements have created New Zealand’s distinctive political and social culture. First is New Zealand’s journey as a colony, and the various impacts this had on settler and Maori society. The second theme is the quest for what one prominent historian has labelled ‘national obsessions’ – equality and security, both individual and collective. The third, and more recent, theme is New Zealand’s emergence as a nation with a unique identity. New Zealand’s small geographic size and relative isolation from other societies, the dominant influence of British culture, the resurgence of Maori language and culture, the endemic instability of an economy based on a narrow range of pastoral products, and the dominance of the state in the lives of its people, all help to explain much of the present-day New Zealand psyche. This third edition of Historical Dictionary of New Zealand contains a chronology, an introduction, appendix, and an extensive bibliography. The dictionary section has over 800 cross-referenced entries on important personalities, politics, economy, foreign relations, religion, and culture. This book is an excellent access point for students, researchers, and anyone wanting to know more about New Zealand.
