In this issue of Neuroimaging Clinics, guest editor Dr. Tarik F. Massoud brings his considerable expertise to the topic of Neuroimaging Anatomy, Part 1: Brain and Skull. Anatomical knowledge is critical to reducing both overdiagnosis and misdiagnosis in neuroimaging. This issue is part one of a two-part series on neuroimaging anatomy that focuses on the brain, with each article addressing a specific area. The issue also includes an article on Brain Connectomics: the study of the brain’s structural and functional connections between cells. Contains 13 relevant, practice-oriented topics including anatomy of cerebral cortex, lobes, and the cerebellum; brainstem anatomy; cranial nerves anatomy; brain functional imaging anatomy; imaging of normal brain aging; and more. Provides in-depth clinical reviews on neuroimaging anatomy of the brain and skull, offering actionable insights for clinical practice. Presents the latest information on this timely, focused topic under the leadership of experienced editors in the field. Biosociology Of Dominance And Deference written by Allan Mazur and has been published by Rowman & Littlefield Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-08-31 with Social Science categories.

Biology_perhaps the most exciting science of the last half-century_is reaching into scholarly disciplines throughout academia, yet sociology has barely entertained it. The reasons for hesitation are clear enough. Sociobiology and ethology have been unappealing to sociologists because they explain human behavior the same way they explain the behavior of social insects, fish, and birds; often evoking images of sexism and Social Darwinism, both anathemas to modern sociologists. Nonetheless, sociologists do show growing interest in biology and what it can contribute to their discipline. In this short, engaging volume Allan Mazur develops new and sociologically sophisticated concepts to bring these fields together. His book is about the social biology of face-to-face dominance interactions and it explores the evolution of behavior through connections among biology, language, culture, and socialization. Topics include comparative primate behavior, physiological and brain mechanisms underlying status processes, and the relevance of the body surface (face, physique, gestures) to status allocation. The book is meant to be a self-contained exploration_sociologists would require no prior knowledge of biology; biologists would require no prior knowledge of sociology_and a fun, informative supplement for courses throughout sociology and the social sciences.

The book discusses the limbic system—the cortical and subcortical structures in the human brain involved in emotion, motivation, and emotional association with memory—at length and how this is no longer a useful guide to the study of psychiatric disorders. Newly revised, this book now includes chapters focusing on the anatomy of Basal Forebrain and Cerebellum Macrosystems and the role these macrosystems paly in motion, emotion, and neuropsychiatric illnesses. This book will help reader develop an understanding of the gross anatomical organization of the human forebrain. Reviews the key concepts of the Limbic System Examines the anatomy of the Basal Forebrain and the Greater Limbic Lobe Includes clinical and basic science boxes highlighting specific concepts, structures, or neuronal circuits from a clinical perspective Features ten brain dissection videos by the late Lennart Heimer, M.D.

The Anatomy Of Paleocortex written by Robert M. Pigache and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Medical categories.

The prime purpose of this paper is to look at the region of brain which many authors call 'paleocortex' and to ask how much of the area it embraces can be described properly as cortex. Before this can be considered it is necessary to have some idea of what constitutes a cortex. Therefore, in the first part of the paper the criteria used in constructing classifications of cortex are looked into. Also considered is the meaning of classifications such as 'paleocortex'. Is it relevant to define cortex in this way? How does this view correlate with a functional approach? The second purpose of this paper, of equal importance to the first, is to review terminology. Each area of' paleocortex' has a review introduction that endeavoors to cut through the existing jungle of terms and usage and to provide a clear account of the area in question, prior to examining its standing as cortex. The term 'paleocortex' is in common use and for this reason it is worth close examination. Kappers (1909) first created the term to supplement the earlier division of cortex-into archicortex and neocortex-introduced by Elliot Smith. Kappers applied the term to the mantle layer of the most primitive vertebrates (cyclostomes and selachians), the whole of which receives secondary olfactory fibres.
