"If you're an engineer or architect, you can't afford to be without this unique database of structural systems used in the design of some of the most important tall buildings erected to date." "Structural Systems for Tall Buildings reviews all major types of structural systems, including lateral load resisting systems ... gravity load resisting systems ... and systems for the future. The book explains how each is typically used for a given design problem, and discusses the pros and cons for each major type." "You'll find a handy classification system of tall buildings by structural type - plus solutions to special problems such as floor vibrations, damping for structural sway, lateral load design, and new experimental structural designs like outrigger stabilizers." "Filled with hundreds of drawings and photographs, this incomparable sourcebook features contributions from some of the most renowned engineers in the world." "With the help of this expert guide, you'll always be able to choose the best structural option for any project - one that can handle expected loads, is cost-effective and efficient to construct, and delivers the architectural solution sought by the client."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. The Tectonics Of Structural Systems written by Yonca Hurol and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-09-16 with Architecture categories.

The Tectonics of Structural Systems provides an architectural approach to the theory of structural systems. The book combines: structural recommendations to follow during the architectural design of various structural systems and the tectonic treatment of structural recommendations in architecture. Written expressly for students, the book makes structures understandable and useful, providing: practical and useful knowledge about structures a design based approach to the subject of structures and a bridge in the gap between structures and the theory of design. Good architectural examples for each structural system are given in order to demonstrate that tectonics can be achieved by applying technical knowledge about structures. Over 300 illustrations visually unpack the topics being explained, making the book ideal for the visual learner.

During the last two decades more and more universities offer courses on modern structural reliability theory. A course on structural reliability theory is now a natural part of the curri culum for mechanical and structural engineering students. As a result of this, a number of textbooks have been published in this decade. In PlOst of these books it is shown how the reliability of single structural members can be evaluated in a rational way. The methods used are usually so-called level 2 methods, i. e. methods involving certain approximate iter ative calculations to obtain an approximate value of the probability of failure of the struc tural members. In these methods the joint probability distribution of relevant variables (re sistance variables, loads, etc. ) is simplified and the failure criteria are idealized in such a way that the reliability calculations can be performed without an unreasonable amount of work. In spite of the approximations and idealizations made it is believed that a rational treatment of uncertainties in structural engineering can be obtained by level 2 methods. Usually, in sufficient data are at hand to make a more advanced estimate of the reliability of a struc tural member. It has been recognized for many years that a fully satisfactory estimate of the reliability of a structure must be based on a systems approach. In some situations it is sufficient to estimate the reliability of the individual structural members of a structural system.

Mechanical engineering, an engineering discipline born of the needs of the industrial revolution, is once again asked to do its substantial share in the call for industrial renewal. The general call is urgent as we face profound issues of productivity and competitiveness that require engineering solu tions, among others. The Mechanical Engineering Series is a new series, featuring graduate texts and research monographs, intended to address the need for information in contemporary areas of mechanical engineering. The series is conceived as a comprehensive one that will cover a broad range of concentrations important to mechanical engineering graduate edu cation and research. We are fortunate to have a distinguished roster of consulting editors, each an expert in one of the areas of concentration. The names of the consulting editors are listed on the first page of the volume. The areas of concentration are applied mechanics, biomechanics, computa tional mechanics, dynamic systems and control, energetics, mechanics of materials, processing, thermal science, and tribology. Professor Marshek, the consulting editor for dynamic systems and con trol, and I are pleased to present this volume of the series: Underconstrained Structural Systems by Professor Kuznetsov. The selection of this volume underscores again the interest of the Mechanical Engineering Series to pro vide our readers with topical monographs as well as graduate texts.
