The Tectonics of Structural Systems provides an architectural approach to the theory of structural systems. The book combines: structural recommendations to follow during the architectural design of various structural systems and the tectonic treatment of structural recommendations in architecture. Written expressly for students, the book makes structures understandable and useful, providing: practical and useful knowledge about structures a design based approach to the subject of structures and a bridge in the gap between structures and the theory of design. Good architectural examples for each structural system are given in order to demonstrate that tectonics can be achieved by applying technical knowledge about structures. Over 300 illustrations visually unpack the topics being explained, making the book ideal for the visual learner.

Introducing Architectural Tectonics written by Chad Schwartz and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-10-04 with Architecture categories.
Introducing Architectural Tectonics is an exploration of the poetics of construction. Tectonic theory is an integrative philosophy examining the relationships formed between design, construction, and space while creating or experiencing a work of architecture. In this text, author Chad Schwartz presents an introductory investigation into tectonic theory, subdividing it into distinct concepts in order to make it accessible to beginning and advanced students alike. The book centers on the tectonic analysis of twenty contemporary works of architecture located in eleven countries including Germany, Italy, United States, Chile, Japan, Bangladesh, Spain, and Australia and designed by such notable architects as Tadao Ando, Herzog & de Meuron, Kengo Kuma, Olson Kundig, and Peter Zumthor. Although similarities do exist between the projects, their distinctly different characteristics – location and climate, context, size, program, construction methods – and range of interpretations of tectonic expression provide the most significant lessons of the book, helping you to understand tectonic theory. Written in clear, accessible language, these investigations examine the poetic creation of architecture, showing you lessons and concepts that you can integrate into your own work, whether studying in a university classroom or practicing in a professional office.

Tectonic Affects In Contemporary Architecture written by Yonca Hurol and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-09-28 with Architecture categories.
Tectonics is an old, ontological concept which simultaneously claims to cover the aesthetics/meaning and the technological/technical in architecture. However, since the advent of ‘modernity’, the relationship between architecture and building technology has been problematic. Some of these problems, which are reflected in the theories of architecture and tectonics, relate to the separation of the technology/technical dimension from the aesthetic/artistic, rendering one of them dominant over the other. This book explores the tectonic affects in architecture because these do not separate building technology and aesthetics or meaning. Affects are preconscious aesthetic feelings which can cause meanings if we start thinking about these affects. The book claims that tectonic affects can generate aesthetic value and meaning. It adopts a practical position towards architectural aesthetics and meaning, and concentrates on tectonic affects.

Tectonics As A Process In Architecture written by Yonca Hurol and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-07-22 with Technology & Engineering categories.
Detailed, research-based review of the intersection of building processes and tectonics, with case studies and theoretical reflections Tectonics as a Process in Architecture explores the dynamic nature of building processes and their impact on architectural tectonics. Detailed case studies and theoretical reflections are included to help readers see how recognizing tectonics as a process can be beneficial. The book is based on research that was conducted to document all changes during the building processes of a house through close engagement between the researcher and the building; the researcher was also the building’s owner, a neighbor to it, its architect, and a construction control. This close connection enabled the capture of numerous changes, some resulting in tectonic affects, while others reflected innovative approaches. These changes were introduced by various actors in the process including contractors, builders, and foremen. In Tectonics as a Process in Architecture, readers will find: Invaluable insights on why tectonics is not merely as an outcome but an inclusive, collaborative process that enhances architectural quality Two process maps, one for tectonic affects and one for innovative approaches Evolving changes during construction and their potential to foster innovation A theory on procedural and inclusive tectonics, primarily focused on details Due to its multifaceted nature, Tectonics as a Process in Architecture will appeal to academics, students, and professionals interested in the intersection of architectural, engineering, construction and tectonic principles.

Structures and Architecture – Bridging the Gap and Crossing Borders contains the lectures and papers presented at the Fourth International Conference on Structures and Architecture (ICSA2019) that was held in Lisbon, Portugal, in July 2019. It also contains a multimedia device with the full texts of the lectures presented at the conference, including the 5 keynote lectures, and almost 150 selected contributions. The contributions on creative and scientific aspects in the conception and construction of structures, on advanced technologies and on complex architectural and structural applications represent a fine blend of scientific, technical and practical novelties in both fields. ICSA2019 covered all major aspects of structures and architecture, including: building envelopes/façades; comprehension of complex forms; computer and experimental methods; futuristic structures; concrete and masonry structures; educating architects and structural engineers; emerging technologies; glass structures; innovative architectural and structural design; lightweight and membrane structures; special structures; steel and composite structures; structural design challenges; tall buildings; the borderline between architecture and structural engineering; the history of the relationship between architects and structural engineers; the tectonic of architectural solutions; the use of new materials; timber structures, among others. This set of book and multimedia device is intended for a global readership of researchers and practitioners, including architects, structural and construction engineers, builders and building consultants, constructors, material suppliers and product manufacturers, and other professionals involved in the design and realization of architectural, structural and infrastructural projects.

Structures and Architecture - REstructure REmaterialize REthink REuse contains the contributions to the 6th International Conference on Structures and Architecture (ICSA 2025, Antwerp, Belgium, 8-11 July 2025). As a response to the pressing global climate and energy crisis, and with new settings and tools, the design and construction of our built environment needs reconsideration and extension. The papers call for a re-imagination of current practices regarding structures and architecture. The volumes of the series are published every three years, in tandem with the conferences organised by the International Association of Structures and Architecture. They aim to reach a global audience of researchers, practitioners, and students, including architects, structural and construction engineers, builders and building consultants, constructors, material suppliers, planners, urban designers, anthropologists, economists, sociologists, artists, product manufacturers, and other professionals involved in the design and realisation of architectural, structural, and infrastructural projects.
