Structural Testing Of Passenger Car And Truck Disc Brakes written by Hydraulic Brake Components Standards Committee and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014 with categories.

This SAE Recommended Practices specifies a procedure for determining structural strength and fatigue life of disc-brake caliper assemblies which are satisfactory for vehicle usage. It is applicable to new caliper assemblies which are employed in passenger car and truck brake systems utilizing hydraulic brake fluids. Brake design and vehicle performance requirements are not included. Specification limits are left to the discretion of the responsible manufacturer. This procedure was developed for base brake operation and does not consider some unusual effects of ABS (Anti-Lock-Brake System) or Traction Control systems which may have a significant effect on the caliper. Careful analysis of the particular type ABS and/or Traction Control should be made and additional tests may be required which are not included in this document. This Recommended Practice is being Stabilized because it represents caliper testing practices of the 1998 era and has not been materially revised since that time (just correction of typographical errors). The SAE Hydraulic Standards Committee does not plan to update this recommended practice, and instead has formed a Task Force that is currently working on SAE J2995 Strength and Durability Testing for Automotive Hydraulic Brake Components to be based upon current technologies and to consider vehicle duty cycles. SAE J1713 should be stabilized since it may still be used as a reference.

This SAE Recommended Practice establishes a method of testing the structural integrity of the brake system of all new trucks, buses, and combination vehicles designed for roadway use and falling in the following classifications: aTruck and BusOver 4500 kg (10 000 lb) GVWR bCombination vehicleTowing vehicle over 4500 kg (10 000 lb) GVWRThe test consists of two distinct tests: a Structural Endurance Test followed by a Structural Ultimate Strength Test.NOTEThese two tests originated from separate procedures, and were combined in this Recommended Practice. Each test can be considered to be an independent evaluation of the service brake's structure. Based on time available, cost limitations, and the desired evaluation and historical data available, either of these tests could be considered as a complete evaluation of the brake's structure. J294 has been reaffirmed to comply with the SAE five-year review policy.
