Since structure-borne sound plays an important role in noise control, material testing and machine diagnosis, the relevant properties of the most important elements of a construction (plates, beams and shells) are investigated. Measurement techniques, equations of motion, formulas for wave speeds, resonance frequencies, impedances, transmission coefficients etc. are given. The different damping mechanisms and the radiation properties are treated. The statistical energy analysis (SEA) is also presented. This new edition has been enlarged to include also waves on orthotropic plates, and the vibration and radiation of cylindrical shells.

Structure-Borne Sound" is a thorough introduction to structural vibrations with emphasis on audio frequencies and the associated radiation of sound. The book presents in-depth discussions of fundamental principles and basic problems, in order to enable the reader to understand and solve his own problems. It includes chapters dealing with measurement and generation of vibrations and sound, various types of structural wave motion, structural damping and its effects, impedances and vibration responses of the important types of structures, as well as with attenuation of vibrations, and sound radiation from structures. For the third edition, the author fundamentally revised and newly organized the contents of the work. Nevertheless, the intention has been to preserve the style of the previous editions, namely to focus on the fundamentals enabling the reader to analyse further problems.

'Engineering acoustics' is a teaching textbook that can serve as a tool for self-study and as a compendium for lectures as well. One of the author's goals is not only to describe how the topic develops but also why a specific way is chosen. The explanations do not restrict themselves to mathematical formulas. Only the illustrative explanation relying on the reader's imagination creates comprehension. This book represents the foundations of what nowadays seems necessary to make our environment quieter - in buildings as well as in the open air. Fundamental chapters on the physics and perception of sound precede those on noise reduction methods. A chapter dealing with microphines, loudspeakers, and acoustical antennae is included as well as a chapter on the fundamentals of signal and system theory. Practice exercises with solutions serve for the application of the entire content.

Building Acoustics And Vibration Theory And Practice written by Osama A B Hassan and has been published by World Scientific Publishing Company this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-06-24 with Architecture categories.

As a comprehensive reference dedicated to sound and vibration in buildings, Building Acoustics and Vibration addresses the basic and advanced principles that can be used to solve practical and theoretical problems typically encountered in building and architectural acoustic practices. In addition, physical and mathematical concepts are introduced and developed sufficiently to make this publication a self-contained and up-to-date source of information for readers.Building Acoustics and Vibration is a must-have textbook for engineering students, engineers, and consultants involved in the sound, vibrations and building environment. With comprehensibility and versatility in the presentation of knowledge, this highly anticipated publication will easily fill the gap in the literature of building engineering and sciences, which presently lacks an authoritative guide on the theoretical and practical aspects of building acoustics and vibration.

Whcn the original German edition of this book first appeared in print, the undcrsigned was asked to review it for an English-language journal. In the course of this review process he was so struck by the book's unusual approach, as well as by the realization that no similar collection of information was available in English, that he conceived thc idea of undertaking this translation. Arrangements with the original authors and with the publisher were completed late in 1969; the translation task was begun at that. time and occupied nearly two and onc-half years-largcly because the undersigned's other professional act.ivities permitted him toderote only hisspare time to the translation effort. Because this passage of time also brought with it some advances in the state of t.he art, an attempt was made to include the most significant of these aclvances, as well as newer references and some minor correc tions, in the translatecl rersion. Except for these changes, which were macle with the enthusiastic endorsement and collaboration of the origi nal authors, the translatecl rersion remains very close to the original. In fact, the translator took special care to preserve not only the mean ing, but also the "flaror", of the original text. The translator is most grateful to Professor L. Cremer and Dr

Acoustical Materials written by Pranab Saha and has been published by SAE International this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-08-11 with Technology & Engineering categories.

What is acoustics? What is noise? How is sound measured? How can the vehicle noise be reduced using sound package treatments? Pranab Saha answers these and more in Acoustical Materials. Acoustics is the science of sound, including its generation, propagation, and effect. Although the propulsion sources of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and electric motor-powered vehicles (EV) are different and therefore their propulsion noises are different, both types of vehicles have shared noise concerns: Tire and road noise Wind noise Vehicle noise and vibration issues have been there almost from the inception of vehicle manufacturing. The noise problem in a vehicle is very severe and is difficult to solve only by modifying the sources of noise and vibration. Sound package treatments address the noise and vibration issues along the path to reduce in-cabin noise. In Acoustical Materials, readers will grasp the science of reducing sound and vibration using sound absorbers, sound barriers, and vibration dampers. Sound provides information on the proper operation of the vehicle, but if unchecked, can detract from the consumer experience within the vehicle and create noise pollution outside the vehicle. Acoustical Materials provides essential information on the basics of sound, vehicle noise source, how these are measured, how vehicle owners perceive sound, and ultimately, how to solve noise problems in vehicles using sound package materials.

Foundations Of Engineering Acoustics written by Frank J. Fahy and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000-09-12 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Foundations of Engineering Acoustics takes the reader on a journey from a qualitative introduction to the physical nature of sound, explained in terms of common experience, to mathematical models and analytical results which underlie the techniques applied by the engineering industry to improve the acoustic performance of their products. The book is distinguished by extensive descriptions and explanations of audio-frequency acoustic phenomena and their relevance to engineering, supported by a wealth of diagrams, and by a guide for teachers of tried and tested class demonstrations and laboratory-based experiments. Foundations of Engineering Acoustics is a textbook suitable for both senior undergraduate and postgraduate courses in mechanical, aerospace, marine, and possibly electrical and civil engineering schools at universities. It will be a valuable reference for academic teachers and researchers and will also assist Industrial Acoustic Group staff and Consultants. - Comprehensive and up-to-date: broad coverage, many illustrations, questions, elaborated answers, references and a bibliography - Introductory chapter on the importance of sound in technology and the role of the engineering acoustician - Deals with the fundamental concepts, principles, theories and forms of mathematical representation, rather than methodology - Frequent reference to practical applications and contemporary technology - Emphasizes qualitative, physical introductions to each principal as an entrée to mathematical analysis for the less theoretically oriented readers and courses - Provides a 'cook book' of demonstrations and laboratory-based experiments for teachers - Useful for discussing acoustical problems with non-expert clients/managers because the descriptive sections are couched in largely non-technical language and any jargon is explained - Draws on the vast pedagogic experience of the writer
