This non-technical and well illustrated book tells the story of what was accomplished during the Shuttle-Mir programme by three of the astronauts. Based on interviews granted to the author by the astronauts, the book describes the experiments they took and the lessons they learned. In doing so it provides a unique insight into how adversity and challenges can be overcome in the process of exploration, making it ideally suited to those planning space missions of a long-duration. Amongst the topics covered are: growing food in space, curing disease with space crystals, and lessons learned form Mir. It also contains interviews with managers of the space programme at the Johnson Space Centre and scientists involved in the experiments.

Agent-based modeling and simulation (ABMS), a way to simulate a large number of choices by individual actors, is one of the most exciting practical developments in business modeling since the invention of relational databases. It represents a new way to understand data and generate information that has never been available before--a way for businesses to view the future and to understand and anticipate the likely effects of their decisions on their markets and industries. It thus promises to have far-reaching effects on the way that businesses in many areas use computers to support practical decision-making. Managing Business Complexity is the first complete business-oriented agent-based modeling and simulation resource. It has three purposes: first, to teach readers how to think about ABMS, that is, about agents and their interactions; second, to teach readers how to explain the features and advantages of ABMS to other people and third, to teach readers how to actually implement ABMS by building agent-based simulations. It is intended to be a complete ABMS resource, accessible to readers who haven't had any previous experience in building agent-based simulations, or any other kinds of models, for that matter. It is also a collection of ABMS business applications resources, all assembled in one place for the first time. In short, Managing Business Complexity addresses who needs ABMS and why, where and when ABMS can be applied to the everyday business problems that surround us, and how specifically to build these powerful agent-based models.

Ground And Flight Test Structural Excitation Using Piezoelectric Actuators written by and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002 with Actuators categories.
A flight flutter experiment at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Dryden Fight Research Center, Edwards, California, used an 18-inch half-span composite model called the Aerostructures Test Wing (ATW). The ATW was mounted on a centerline flight test fixture on the NASA F-15B and used distributed piezoelectric strain actuators for in-flight structural excitation. The main focus of this paper is to investigate the performance of the piezoelectric actuators and test their ability to excite the first-bending and first-torsion modes of the ATW on the ground and in-flight. On the ground, wing response resulting from piezoelectric and impact excitation was recorded and compared. The comparison shows less than a 1-percent difference in modal frequency and a 3-percent increase in damping.

Strategy Planning And Organization Of Test Processes written by Frank Witte and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-09-01 with Computers categories.
The book provides concrete tips for the successful organization of software tests. Because: Planning and conception in advance are essential for successful test projects. Setting the right course prevents problems from the outset and highlights the need for action in software testing. In addition to theoretical basics, this work shows the implementation in practice and deals with typical problems. Frank Witte explains the decisive aspects to be considered in the test concept in order to optimally support and accompany the test process. This book is a translation of the original German 1st edition Strategie, Planung und Organisation von Testprozessen by Frank Witte, Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, part of Springer Nature in 2020. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book will read stylistically differently from a conventional translation. Springer Nature works continuously to further the development of tools for the production of books and on the related technologies to support the authors.
