I saggi che si presentano segnalano un'attenzione costante dell'autore verso la formazione e lo svolgimento del nuovo diritto di famiglia, colto nelle premesse culturali e sociali che hanno dato luogo alla riforma del 1975, e seguito nei suoi sviluppi e nella sua evoluzione fino alla data di pubblicazione del volume. I saggi sono stati ordinati non tanto secondo un criterio cronologico,ma piuttosto secondo un criterio sistematico, e quindi raggruppati in quattro grandi tematiche, dedicate rispettivamente a: La riforma del diritto di famiglia, La comunione legale, Le convenzioni matrimoniali e l'attività negoziale determinativa, Persona e filiazione. Ad un lettore attento non potrà sfuggire che lo svolgimento legislativo e giurisprudenziale, puntualmente commentato, è stato spesso anticipato e previsto, non solo su un piano teorico generale, ma anche sul piano concreto del modo di essere delle norme. Ennio Russo ha conseguito la libera docenza in Diritto civile nella sessione dell'anno 1959, e la cattedra nel 1966. Ha insegnato Diritto privato e Diritto civile nelle Università di Messina, Perugia e Roma Tor Vergata. Ha presieduto, in qualità di Decano, il Corpo accademico dell'Università di Roma Tor Vergata negli anni 2005 e 2008 in occasione dell'elezione del Rettore. Ha pubblicato numerosi volumi e curato opere collettanee in tema di diritto di famiglia, vendita, appalto, transazioni commerciali, negozio giuridico, comunione legale e convenzioni matrimoniali, interpretazione della legge civile e dei testi normativi comunitari, nonché i manuali sulle nozioni generali del Diritto civile.

A Treatise of Legal Philosophy and General Jurisprudence is the first-ever multivolume treatment of the issues in legal philosophy and general jurisprudence, from both a theoretical and a historical perspective.
