Studying the Perception-Action System as a Model System for Understanding Development, Volume 55, the latest release in the Advances in Child Development and Behavior series, includes chapters that highlight some of the most recent research in the field of development of the perception-action system, with an overarching theme of addressing how the development of the perception-action system is a useful model for understanding both typical and atypical development. Chapters in this latest release include discussions of Perception and Action, Exploration and Selection, and the Acquisition of Skills in Infancy, The Development of Object Fitting: The Dynamics of Spatial Coordination, Developmental Pathways of Change in Perceptual-Motor Learning, Timing Is Almost Everything: How Children Perceive and Act on Dynamic Affordances, Vision, Whole Body Coordinations, and the Development of Throwing, Action Errors: A Window into the Early Development of Perception-Action System, Are Different Actions Mediated by Distinct Systems of Knowledge in Infancy and Childhood?, Sensory-Motor Development as a Precursor to Cognition, and A Perception-Action Approach to Those with Developmental Coordination Disorder. - Compiles contributions from leaders in research on the perception-action system - Contains theoretical contributions in the field of developmental psychology - Fills major gap in the literature on this topic

As busy as teachers and scholars are, rarely do they find the time to sample widely from the table of scientific inquiry. This book offers the opportunity to do just that. The fourth volume in the "Studies in Perception and Action" series, it contains a collection of posters presented at the Ninth International Conference on Perception and Action, sponsored by the International Society for Ecological Psychology. Like its predecessor, this volume is a collection of short reports, mostly empirical in nature. The reports are considerably larger than the abstracts presented in the proceedings of many conferences, and provide the authors with opportunities to present arguments, methods, results, and conclusions in condensed forms.

What Can We Make Of Theories Of Embodiment And The Role Of The Human Mirror Neuron System written by Analia Arevalo and has been published by Frontiers Media SA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-03-09 with Neurosciences. Biological psychiatry. Neuropsychiatry categories.

In recent years, work surrounding theories of embodiment and the role of the putative mirror neuron system (MNS) in humans has gained considerable attention. If humans have developed a network of neurons that fire in response to other beings’ actions, as has been shown in macaques, this system could have vast implications for all kinds of cognitive processes unique to humans, such as language, learning, empathy and communication in general. The goal of tapping into and understanding such a system is a fascinating yet challenging one. One form of embodiment -- embodied linguistics -- suggests that the way we process linguistic information is linked to our physical experience of the concept conveyed by each word. The interaction between these cognitive systems (i.e., language and motor processing) may occur thanks to the firing of neurons making up the MNS. The possible interdependence between different cognitive systems has implications for healthy as well as pathological profiles, and in fact, work in recent years has also explored the role of ‘embodiment’ and/or the MNS in clinical populations such as stroke, Parkinson’s Disease, Alzheimer’s Disease, and Autism, among others. Research on embodiment and/or the MNS has been approached with a number of different methodologies, but the results obtained with these different methodologies have not been entirely consistent, generating doubts regarding the theories. The question has been raised as to what this line of inquiry can gain from the types of evidence contributed by functional neuroimaging methods carried out with healthy volunteers versus behavioral or lesion-symptom mapping methods employed with neurologically-compromised individuals. Of particular interest are the clinical applications of this line of research. If indeed a system exists which reflects a tight link between, for example, the human language and motor systems, then the obvious challenge is to tap into this system to create useful therapies that can provide rehabilitation where damage has occurred. This Research Topic brought together work conducted with healthy and patient populations using several behavioral and imaging techniques, as well as insightful commentaries and opinion pieces. We believe the combined work of the participating authors is an important contribution to this intriguing line of research and an excellent point of reference for future work.

This book summarizes the results of the second year in the Design Thinking Research Program, a joint venture of Stanford University in Palo Alto and Hasso Plattner Institute in Potsdam. The authors have taken a closer look at the issue of co-creation from different points-of-view. The concept of co-creation can also be applied to the phase in which new ideas and related thought start to influence companies, the economy, our culture, and society. The perpetual pursuit for inventions, new creations and innovations is inherent in human nature. The concept behind co-creation may sound simple, however, it is both an essential element of Design Thinking and highly complex. It is about creating positive synergies for all parties involved.

Interpersonal Coordination written by Nobuyuki Inui and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-08-28 with Medical categories.

This book explores the fascinating area of interpersonal coordination in force production tasks, outlining the author’s extensive research to date and presenting stimulating new perspectives. The purpose is to provide a detailed exposition of current understanding of the science behind interpersonal joint action. Readers will find clear explanation of concepts from social cognition and neuroscience that are key to an understanding of the field, including the social brain hypothesis, the mirror neuron system, and joint action, as well as other relevant background information. The author then proceeds to present an overview of recent original studies on interpersonal movement coordination performed at his laboratory in Japan. These studies provide insights into such issues as complementary and synchronous force production in joint action, bidirectional transfer between joint and solo actions, and motor control hierarchy in joint action involving bimanual force. They also setthe direction for integration of knowledge of physical properties and social cognition. The book will be of interest for researchers and graduate students in all areas of the biomedical sciences.
