Under certain theoretical assumptions, the branching fraction of B{sub s}° 2!D{sub s}{sup (*)+}D{sub s}{sup (*)-} is directly sensitive to the relative decay width difference [Delta][Lambda]{sub s}{sup CP}/[Lambda]{sub s} in the B{sub s}° system, which is predicted to be sizable in the standard model. Using approximately 4 fb−1 of data collected by the CDF II detector at the Tevatron p{bar p} collider, the CDF collaboration is currently performing an exclusive selection of B{sub s}° 2!D{sub s}{sup (*)+}D{sub s}{sup (*)-} signal candidates in several hadronic modes in order to provide a new branching fraction measurement. In contrast to former analyses, we start to have sensitivity in disentangling D{sub s}{sup (*)+}D{sub s}{sup (*)-}, enabling us to measure the branching fractions of B{sub s}° 2!D{sub s}D{sub s}−, B{sub s}° 2!D{sub s}{sup (*)+}D{sub s}− and B{sub s}° 2!D{sub s}{sup (*)+}D{sub s}{sup (*)-} separately. Yet another interesting mode is the decay of the B{sub s}° into a [phi] pair. This is a vector-vector decay dominated by the b 2!s{ovr ss} penguin transition, which is a sensitive probe for possible new physics effects. Here we present a new measurement of the branching fraction based on a clean sample of about 300 B{sub s}° 2![phi][phi] signal events in a dataset with an integrated luminosity of 2.9 fb−1.

We present a study of the charmless Bs → [phi][phi] decay performed with the CDFII detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. Charmless B0 decays currently can be studied only at the Tevatron and represent a field still to be fully explored that offers additional ways to test our present theoretical understanding. The Bs → [phi][phi] belongs to a particular class of these decays: the Bs meson decays into a pair of vector particle and the fi al state is self- conjugate. It can be used to measure the Bs decay width difference ([Gamma][Delta]s), to improve our understanding about the Cabibbo Kobayashi Maskawa matrix, and to perform tests of decay polarization predictions. The Bs → [phi][phi] decay proceeds through a b → sss transition and in the Standard Model the dominant process is the b → s "penguin" diagram. The same penguin amplitude is involved in several processes which have shown several discrepancies with the Standard Model predictions, raising considerable attention on the theoretical side and new physics interpretations have been considered to explain the experimental data. To shed light on this experimental and theoretical rather complex scenario, new and more precise measurements are clearly needed in as many interesting channels as possible. The study of Bs → [phi][phi] channel is an important player in this experimental effort. The Bs → [phi][phi] decay has been observed for the first time by CDF in 2005 [1] in a data sample of 180 pb-1; eight events have been seen and a first measurement of the Branching Ratio (BR) has been performed. In this thesis we present an update of this measurement with an integrated luminosity of 2.9fb-1. An improvement of a factor 5 compared to the previous Branching Ratio measurement is achieved. In Chap.2 a short introduction on the Standard Model with special emphasis on the electroweak sector is presented. In Chap.3 the Fermilab accelerator complex and the CDFII detector is described. The trigger strategy to select events relevant to B physics is explained in some detail. In Chap.4 we present the data sample used for this analysis and some informations concerning the offline reconstruction program. In Chap.5 the Monte Carlo program and its validation procedure are explained. In Chap.6 the strategy of the Branching Ratio measurement and the optimization procedure used to define the analysis selection criteria both for the Bs → [phi][phi] and the Bs → J/[psi][phi] decays are presented. In Chap.7 all the steps needed to perform the measurement of the BR are reported. Signal yields of the Bs → [phi][phi] and the Bs → J/[psi][phi] decays are presented. The trigger and selection efficiencies and the muon efficiency are evaluated. The ratio of the BR(Bs → [phi][phi]) to the BR(Bs → J/[psi][phi]) is measured and is used to compute the Branching Ratio of Bs → [phi][phi]. The systematic errors on the BR are estimated. In Chap.8 we present the summary of our results.

We present a study of Bs0 decays to the CP-odd final state J/[psi] f0(980) with J/[psi] 2!æ+æ- and f0(980) 2![pi]+[pi]-. Using pp̄ collision data with an integrated luminosity of 3.8 fb-1 collected by the CDF II detector at the Tevatron we measure a Bs0 lifetime of [tau](B0s 2!J/[psi] f0(980)) = 1.70-0.11+0.12(stat) " 0.03(syst) ps. This is the first measurement of the Bs0} lifetime in a decay to a CP eigenstate and corresponds in the standard model to the lifetime of the heavy Bs0 eigenstate. We also measure the product of branching fractions of B0s 2!J/[psi] f0(980) and f0(980) 2![pi]+[pi]- relative to the product of branching fractions of B0s 2!J/[psi][phi] and [phi]2!+K- to be Rf0/[psi] = 0.257 " 0.020(stat) " 0.014(syst), which is the most precise determination of this quantity to date.

The CDF Run I B physics program has been very successful, making numerous measurements over a wide variety of B physics topics. Measurements have included masses and lifetimes; discovery of the B[sub c]; B[sub s][r-arrow] J/[psi][phi] polarization; B[sup 0][leftrightarrow][bar B][sup 0] mixing; sin (2[beta]); and rare decay limits. Recent results include a search for[Lambda][sub b][r-arrow][Lambda][gamma] and a study of B[sup 0][r-arrow] J/[psi]K(*)[sup 0][pi][sup+][pi][sup[minus]] decays. The tools and experience developed during Run I are quite valuable as CDF enters Run II.

The authors report on the evidence for the decays B[sup 0][yields] D[sub s][sup+][pi][sup -] and B[sup 0][yields] D[sub s][sup -] K[sup+] and the results of a search for the decays B[sup 0][yields] D*[sub s][sup+][pi][sup -] and B[sup 0][yields] D*[sub s][sup -] K[sup+] from a sample of 84 million[Upsilon](4S) decays into B meson pairs collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP II asymmetric-energy e[sup+]e[sup -] collider. The measured B[sup 0][yields] D[sub s][sup+][pi][sup -] yield has a probability of less than 10[sup -3] to be a fluctuation of the background and they measure the branching fraction[Beta](B[sup 0][yields] D[sub s][sup+][pi][sup -])= (3.2[+-] 0.9(stat.)[+-] 1.0 (syst.)) x 10[sup -5]. The measured B[sup 0][yields] D[sub s][sup -] K[sup+] yield has a probability of less than 5 x 10[sup -4] to be a fluctuation of the background and they measure the branching fraction[Beta](B[sup 0][yields] D[sub s][sup -] K[sup+])= (3.2[+-] 1.0(stat.)[+-] 1.0(syst.)) x 10[sup -5]. Two measurements of the lifetime of neutral and charged B mesons in p[bar p] collisions at[radical]s= 1.8 TeV by the CDF experiment are presented. The first relies on the study of exclusive decays of the type B[yields][psi] K, the second on semileptonic decays of a B meson into a D[degrees] or a D. The combined results are[tau](B[sup+])= 1.62[+-] 0.09 ps, [tau](B[sub 0])= 1.60[+-] 0.09 ps and[tau](B[sup+])/[tau](B[sup 0])= 1.00[+-] 0.07.

The authors present a study of the decays B[sup 0][yields] D[sub s][sup (*)+] D*[sup -], using 20.8 fb[sup -1] of e[sup+]e[sup -] annihilation data recorded with the BABAR detector. The analysis is conducted with a partial reconstruction technique, in which only the D[sub s][sup (*)+] and the soft pion from the D*[sup -] decay are reconstructed. They measure the branching fractions[Beta](B[sup 0][yields] D[sub s][sup (*)+] D*[sup -])= (1.03[+-] 0.14[+-] 0.13[+-] 0.26)% and[Beta](B[sup 0][yields] D[sub s][sup (*)+] D*[sup -])= (1.97[+-] 0.15[+-] 0.30[+-] 0.49)%, where the first error is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is the error due to the D[sub s][sup+][yields][phi][pi][sup+] branching fraction uncertainty. From the B[sup 0][yields] D[sub s][sup (*)+] D*[sup -] angular distributions, they measure the fraction of longitudinal polarization[Lambda][sub L]/[Lambda]= (51.9[+-] 5.0[+-] 2.8)%, which is consistent with theoretical predictions based on factorization.
