The authors study the yields of charged kaons, charged pions, and protons produced in association with B mesons produced in proton-antiproton collisions at center of mass energy 1960 GeV using 355 pb-1 of data collected with the CDF detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. This is the first reported measurements of these yields at a hadron collider. The B mesons are reconstructed using their semileptonic decays: B0 → l+D-X, D- → K+?-?-; B0 → l+D*-X, D*- → ?-$ar{D}$0,$ar{D}$0 → K+?-; B+ → l+$ar{D}$0X, $ar{D}$0 → K+?-; Bs→l+D$-top{s}$ X, D$-top{s}$ → ?-?,? → K+K-. The K, ?, and p are identified using the Time of Flight detector (TOF), the CDF spectrometer, and the specific ionization (dE/dx) measured in the central drift chamber (COT). The fraction of charged kaons produced in association with $ar{B}$$0top{s}$ mesons is found to be larger than the fraction produced in association with the $ar{B}$$0top{s}$ and B- mesons, as expected from naive models of heavy quark hadronization to mesons. The particle species yields are found to be in qualitative agreement with simulation of B meson production in hadron collisions from the PYTHIA Monte Carlo, although the yield of kaons around $ar{B}$$0top{s}$ mesons is found to be larger in the simulation when compared to the data. These studies are important for understanding methods of identifying the flavor of $ar{B}$$0top{s}$ mesons in measurement of $ar{B}$$0top{s}$ flavor oscillations and charge conjugation-parity (CP) violation in $ar{B}$$0top{s}$ meson decays.

We present evidence for charge correlations of {ital B} mesons with charged particles produced in {ital p{anti p}} Collisions at 1.8 TeV. Such correlations are expected to arise from pious produced in the fragmentation chain and from {ital B}{sup **} decays. We measure the efficiency and purity of this flavor tagging method for both charged and neutral {ital B} mesons. We apply these correlations to {ital B} mesons reconstructed in 110 pb−1 of data collected with the CDF detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. {ital B} mesons are either partially reconstructed, using the semileptonic decays {ital B}° 2!{ital l}{ital D}{sup (*)-}{ital X} and {ital B} 2!{ital l}+{ital {anti D}X}, or fully reconstructed, using the decay modes {ital B}° 2!{ital J/{Psi}K{sup *0}} and {ital B}+ 2!{ital J/{Psi}K+}. Application of this new flavor tagging method to neutral {ital B} mesons yields a measurement of the frequency of the oscillation {ital B}° 2!{ital {anti B}}°. We obtain [Delta]{ital m{sub d}} = 0.446 ± 0.057{sup +0.034}{sub -0.031}.

We measure the mass of the B{sub s}° meson by fully reconstructing the decay B{sub s}° → J/?? with the subsequent decays J/? →??− and? → K+ K−. The data was obtained from 19.3 pb−1 of integrated luminosity of {bar p}p collisions at √s = 1.8 TeV using the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF). A sample of 80,000 inclusive J/? →?+?− events is used to study systematic biases in track reconstruction and is used to calibrate the momentum scale. We reconstruct the kinematically similar decays B− → J/? K− and B° → J/? K* to study the mass measurement technique used for the B° meson. Based on the observation of 32 ± 6 candidates, the mass of the B{sub s}° meson is measured to be 5369.9 ± 2.3 ± 1.3 MeV/c2.

Production of orbitally excited (L = 1) states of B mesons, B{sup **}, is studied using a sample of nearly ten thousand partially reconstructed B mesons collected with the CDF detector from p{anti p} collisions at (square root)s = 1.8 TeV. Ambiguities in the reconstruction of the B flavor and momentum are resolved. The fraction of b quarks that hadronize into an L = 1 state is measured to be 0.28 " 0.06(stat) " 0.03(syst), and the collective mass of the B{sup **} states is measured to be m(B1) = 5.71 " 0.02 GeV/c2 given the mass splittings between the four states.
