El informe final de la Comisión sobre Determinantes Sociales de la Salud identifica aspectos cruciales de las condiciones de vida cotidianas y de los factores estructurales subyacentes que las influencian, sobre los que es preciso actuar. El informe proporciona un análisis de los determinantes sociales de la salud y ejemplos concretos de tipos de medidas que han demostrado su eficacia para mejorar la salud y la equidad en materia de salud en países de todos los niveles de desarrollo socioeconómico. La parte 1 plantea la situación y expone los fundamentos lógicos de un movimiento mundial orientado a promover la equidad en materia de salud mediante medidas relacionadas con los determinantes sociales de la salud. Esta parte describe la amplitud del problema entre los países y dentro de ellos, señala lo que la Comisión cree son las causas de las inequidades en materia de salud y sugiere soluciones posibles. La parte 2 presenta el enfoque adoptado por la Comisión respecto de los datos y del indispensable valor que supone reconocer y utilizar la amplia diversidad de los diferentes tipos de conocimientos. Esta parte describe los principios básicos aplicados para seleccionar los determinantes sociales que serán objeto de análisis y sugiere, mediante un marco conceptual, de qué manera pueden interactuar esos determinantes. Las partes 3, 4 y 5 describen más detalladamente las conclusiones y recomendaciones de la Comisión. Los capítulos de la parte 3 abordan las condiciones de vida cotidianas, los aspectos más evidentes del nacimiento, el crecimiento y la educación; la vida y el trabajo; y la utilización de los servicios de salud. Los capítulos de la parte 4 se refieren a condiciones más estructurales, tales como las políticas sociales y económicas que determinan el crecimiento, la vida y el trabajo; las funciones relativas del Estado y el mercado para proporcionar un acceso fácil y equitativo a la salud; y las condiciones generales en los planos internacional y global que pueden facilitar o dificultar la aplicación de medidas de alcance nacional y local en pro de la equidad en materia de salud. La parte 5 se centra en la importancia crítica de los datos, no meramente en los de la investigación convencional, sino en los que aporten evidencias del mejoramiento o el deterioro de la calidad de vida y la salud de las personas, que sólo se pueden alcanzar mediante el compromiso y la capacidad en lo que concierne a la vigilancia y el seguimiento de la equidad en materia de salud. Por último, la parte 6 retoma cuestiones que la Comisión ha identificado y de las que dependerá el futuro de un movimiento mundial orientado a la equidad en materia de salud, incluidas las relativas a las redes mundiales, los vínculos regionales con la sociedad civil en todo el mundo, el creciente grupo de países asociados que promueven el progreso de los programas sobre determinantes sociales de la salud, los principales programas de investigación y las oportunidades de cambio en los ámbitos del gobierno y las instituciones mundiales. This book updates knowledge about self-injurious behaviors for suicidal purposes concerning frequency, possibly biological, psychological, social, cultural, and political causes; that is, it approaches suicide from abroad non-reductive vision and considers the phenomenon's complexity. The source of information is the most recent scientific research —preferably systematic reviews and meta-analyses—given the wealth of data available on the subject of suicide. Likewise, it presents a comprehensive view of strategies for preventing suicidal behavior. Special attention was paid to the review and inclusion of research carried out in Colombia and other Latin American countries since studies published in Spanish are exceptionally considered in reviews in English. Each chapter is extensively referenced so that readers can delve into the details of each topic as they see fit. It is necessary to continue reviewing the evidence to reduce suicidal behaviors by implementing preventive programs in the most vulnerable social groups.

The basis of this proposal is the study of quality of life from an interdisciplinary perspective. This volume presents a set of contributions from different sciences that analyse the quality of life in Argentina. The contributions come from the social disciplines (Geography, Economics, Demography, History) and from the field of health (Nutrition, Medicine, Psychology) as well as the applied sciences (Statistics, Applied Mathematics). The purpose is to present various dimensions related to the well-being of the population, particularly in relation to poverty, human development, health, nutrition and morbidity. Although there are works from different sciences associated with the object of study, they all have a geographic component based on cartography. Consequently, the importance of geography is highlighted, as the territorial base allows for the study quality of life from a unique perspective where the map emerges as a fundamental descriptive tool. Such an approach is useful to diagnose the quality of life and its uneven spatial distribution, either through index or different associated variables. Thus, the maps are fundamental to study the territorial configuration of the quality of life at the different scales of analysis, showing spatial inequalities and the areas where it is necessary to take measures to improve the population's living conditions.
