HR violations is a major issue in Sri Lanka. Rape, Torture, Kidnapping, Intimidation, Ransom, Killing of media men and politicians etc are the main factors of HR violations in the island of Sri Lanka, once called “the land of paradise”. This book covers stories on HR violations caused by the ethnic war, some of them based on real incidents. After the independence from the British in 1948, the relationship between the majority and minority communities gradually deteriorated with the occurrence of several communal riots, the worst being the one in 1983. Policies of the Government lead the Tamil youths to take up to arms, when they found that there future are bleak. The first long story titled “Sufferings of innocent Souls” reflects the grievances of the internally displaced (IDP) Tamil citizens after the war. The involvement of paramilitary groups in HR violations is another factor pointed out in some stories. The story “Beach boy” covers the damaged caused by sexual tourism. The story “Temple entry” deals with caste system that prevented low caste people to have access to temples; “White Van” story is based on the kidnapping vehicle used for killing or disappearance and serves as a tool for HR violation in the island.

Pandemics, conflicts, and crises have increased suffering, death, and loss worldwide. The growing phenomenon of online interactions by the bereaved with the online presence of their deceased loved ones has recently come to the attention of caring professionals. Many questions emerge. How do we understand and respond to digital memorialization? What do we make of digital identities and continuing bonds? How can we engage with digital bereavement communities? What is the future of digital death and bereavement rituals and practices? How have forms of technospirituality and cybergnosticism emerged? How do counselors and carers respond to advances in the digital afterlife? Graham Joseph Hill and Desiree Geldenhuys examine existing therapeutic responses to death and bereavement practices and evaluate the efficacy in meeting the needs of mourners in a digital context. Geldenhuys and Hill explore the rising interest in spirituality and the phenomenon of technospirituality, including interest in the afterlife. The authors outline new death and bereavement practices in the digital public sphere. Hill and Geldenhuys offer ways that therapeutic and care practitioners can meet these needs. Finally, the authors develop new proposals for counseling, pastoral, and spiritual carers to help them address the needs of the bereaved.

Why is there so much suffering? How do I make sense of my pain? Father Christopher Mahar responds to these questions and more with empathy, conviction, and hope. Guided by the writings of Saint John Paul II and over twenty years of pastoral experience, Fr. Mahar unfolds the mysterious truth that “even in suffering, we can find love.” His short chapters, reflection questions, and prompts for prayer are a rich companion for those who are suffering and those who love them. -----I wish I didn’t need this book, but I do. We all do, because so much of life is occupied with suffering—grief, disappointment, physical pain, shame. Jesus Christ showed us the way through every ordeal, empowering us not only to endure, but to triumph. In these pages, Father Mahar shows us that way, helping us to understand it as he provides clear, practical spiritual guidance. —Mike Aquilina, executive vice-president, St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology; author, The Fathers of the Church; EWTN host -----Despite the “broken families, broken promises, and broken lives” all around us, [Father Christopher Mahar] effectively illustrates the astonishing Good News of our faith—that the “Gospel of Suffering” allows every trial to be a rich encounter with Christ and an opportunity to embrace a creative vocation radiating hope.—Genevieve Kineke, author and speaker on authentic Catholic femininity

The Soul In Anguish written by Lionel Corbett and has been published by Chiron Publications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-09-30 with Psychology categories.

The Soul in Anguish: Psychotherapeutic Approaches to Suffering presents a variety of approaches to psychotherapeutic work with suffering people, from the perspectives of both Jungian and psychoanalytic psychology. An important theme of the book is that suffering may be harmful or helpful to the development of the personality. Our culture tends to assume that suffering is invariably negative or pointless, but this is not necessarily so; suffering may be destructive, but it may lead to positive developments such as enhanced empathy for others, wisdom, or spiritual development. The book offers professionals in any helping profession various frameworks within which to view suffering, so that the individual's suffering does not seem to be random or meaningless. Cognitive-behavioral approaches, the approach of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric association, and the promise of evidence-based strategies may or may not be applicable to the unique circumstances of the suffering individual. These approaches also ignore the unconscious sources of much suffering, its implications for the ongoing development of the personality, and the nuances of the therapeutic relationship. We cannot objectify or measure suffering; suffering is best viewed from within the individual's perspective, because people with the same diagnosis suffer in unique ways. The Soul in Anguish is a groundbreaking, meticulously researched study from an outstanding Jungian analyst and scholar. It provides illuminating ways into the transformative potential of suffering and how it can be dealt with in the consulting room. Charting the soul's agonies with great compassion and profound sensitivity, Dr. Corbett skillfully delineates clinical, philosophical and spiritual concepts of suffering that testify to the endurance of the human spirit. This book is an enlightening read for anybody with a passionate concern for the human soul. - Ursula Wirtz, PhD, Jungian Analyst, Author of Trauma and Beyond: The Mystery of Transformation With extraordinary candor The Soul in Anguish brings its readers face to face with one of the most difficult topics in life, suffering. This remarkable exploration of the range of suffering, especially as encountered in psychotherapy, mines for meaning and finds both its positive and negative expressions. Transcending the categorical, pathological descriptions of the DSM, The Soul in Anguish reveals the archetypal nature of the experience of suffering. Dr. Lionel Corbett offers healing to mind, soul and body, in this uplifting engagement with what is usually either avoided in most treatments or only touched upon, i.e., anguish. This book reimagines our pain and anguish to bring about the possibility of a true psychological and soulful grasp of suffering. No therapist should miss the opportunities of Dr. Corbett's rich study. - Joe Cambray, Ph.D.,Past-President IAAP,Author DR. LIONEL CORBETT trained in medicine and psychiatry in England and as a Jungian Analyst at the C.G. Jung Institute of Chicago. His primary interests are: the religious function of the psyche, the development of psychotherapy as a spiritual practice, and the interface of Jungian psychology and contemporary psychoanalytic thought. Dr. Corbett is a professor of depth psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute. He is the author of numerous papers and three books: The Sacred Cauldron: Psychotherapy as a Spiritual Practice, Psyche and the Sacred, and The Religious Function of the Psyche. He is the co-editor of: Jung and Aging, Depth Psychology, Meditations in the Field, and Psychology at the Threshold.

The Mystery of Suffering and the Meaning of God is a book written by a skeptical but spiritual person for people who struggle with the subjects of God, divine providence, prayer, and related issues; people who are looking for honest and thoughtful—and sometimes humorous—theological reflections, but no easy answers. A work of creative theology fifteen years in the making, The Mystery of Suffering and the Meaning of God deals primarily with the issue of suffering, starting with the book of Job, and addresses the subject of theodicy before going on to explore related topics of the role of prayer, God concepts, the meaning of revelation, and how we can best live together. Laytner intersperses these penetrating theological reflections with pertinent episodes from his life, starting with the personal tragedies that sparked this book. Trained as a liberal rabbi, Laytner riffs on Jewish themes to offer a universal yet personal response to each of the challenges he discusses. His thesis is this: If you are troubled by the issue of suffering and wonder about God’s presence (or lack thereof) in the world, and you find no solace in any of the traditional theodicies, then change your conception of God and God’s involvement in the world. Problem solved!
