Sunan Kalijaga adalah salah satu tokoh Walisongo, lahir pada tahun 1450 Masehi dengan nama Raden Said. Dia adalah putra adipati Tuban yang bernama Tumenggung Wilatikta atau Raden Sahur. Nama lain Sunan Kalijaga antara lain Lokajaya, Syekh Malaya, Pangeran Tuban, dan Raden Abdurrahman. Berdasarkan satu versi masyarakat Cirebon, nama Kalijaga berasal dari Desa Kalijaga di Cirebon. Pada saat Sunan Kalijaga berdiam di sana, dia sering berendam di sungai (kali), atau jaga kali. Dikenal sebagai wali yang sangat lekat dengan muslim di Pulau Jawa, karena kemam-puannya memasukkan pengaruh Islam ke dalam tradisi dan budaya Jawa. Makamnya berada di Kadilangu, Demak.

The law of exception is a law that reveals an object that has different and special characteristics from other objects in a group. The number of objects that become exceptions varies quite a lot and is usually less than the other objects. In this book, objects that are exceptions are generally divided into two types, namely one or a few. The laws of exception is arranged formulacally and arranged systematically by using a simple formula arrangement. From this arrangement, the law of exception creates a concept to seek and find an object that has different and special characteristics from other objects that have relationships between one with anothers in a group. After that, it is explained where the different and special characteristics lie. So that these different objects provide their own uniqueness from other objects. The law of exception is a universal law in general. This is done to uncover a number of phenomena that often occur in natural and social life. This is intended to focus on objects that have different and special characteristics and become exception from other objects in a group. In this discussion, the description of each chapter reveals an exception object of the other objects in several parts of the verse in the Quran, the relationship between God and the creature, the history of several figures known by the community, Qibla and prayer, uniqueness of the calendar, organization, the uniqueness of numbers, soccer, solar systems, and recognize vulnerable past history to the future of relations between China and Taiwan.

This is an open access book. Wael B. Hallaq, a renowned sharia scholar, has called sharia an ‘episteme’ that suffered a ‘structural death’ following the dawn of modernity in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries (Hallaq 2009, 15–16). Yet, its resurgent is remarkable across a number of jurisdictional fault-lines: from Muslim-majority nations in Middle East and Southeast Asia to Muslim-minority societies in Western Europe and North America. Across these jurisdictions, the relationship between sharia and state law is central. It includes sharia-state encounters, notably in the form of (state) Islamic law, in the field of family law, which is often asserted as the ‘core’ or ‘last stronghold’ of sharia (Moors 2003, 2; Coulson 1969, 115–6), and other substantive areas of law, such as Islamic economics and Islamic philanthropy and also jinayah (Islamic penal law). Regardless of their differences in their own specific context, these areas somehow manage to secure an importance place in the modern days. It involves different loci of authority to interpret, legislate, and enforce sharia, or parts of it that not only flourish but also being challenged around the Muslim world. Equally important are implications of the increasingly unsettled authority of apparently agreed-upon substance of sharia. To contribute on these issues, we would like to invite scholars from diverse discipline including law, anthropology, and Islamic studies, working in both Muslim-majority and Muslim-minority contexts, to present their works in our International Seminar on Sharia, Law, and Muslim Society (ISSLaMS).
