Grace Hwang battles alongside fellow healthcare workers in Singapore when the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) virus strikes in 2003. She looks back at her years in Trafalgar Home, a leper colony where she lived from 1961 to 1968. Alice, a friend from Trafalgar, is dying of cancer when SARS strikes. Alice had a baby while in Trafalgar Home, who had to be given up for adoption. Now, in the thick of SARS, Grace attempts to reunite Alice with her daughter before Alice dies, and seeks to discover who found the cure to leprosy. SARS is woven together with the leprosy plotline, another frightening illness that led to its sufferers being quarantined. Although the characters in the novel are fictional, the backdrop of events and places — SARS, Trafalgar Home, leprosy and its cure — are real and an important part of Singapore’s history. Formerly known as the Singapore Leper Asylum, Trafalgar Home was a state-sanctioned asylum to detain leprosy sufferers indefinitely. The Leprosy Act was repealed in Singapore in 1976. Now, the story of Trafalgar Home is told to the many Singaporeans who have never heard of it or have forgotten it. This moving, thought-provoking story will strike at the hearts of many Singaporeans across a range of age groups, as it centres on the SARS outbreak of 2003. This event in our recent history is still remembered by many Singaporeans. In Singapore, 33 people died and 238 were infected, many who were healthcare workers who made tremendous sacrifices.

Sunrise written by Lucy Fischer and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-10-01 with Performing Arts categories.

Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927) is one of the most historically pivotal of all films. The first American film of the celebrated German director F.W. Murnau, Sunrise tells the story of a love triangle between characters named only as The Man, The Wife, and The Woman from the City. Lucy Fischer's compelling study of the film shows how it mediates between German expressionism and American melodrama, the avantgarde and popular film, silent cinema and 'talkies'. A lavish and sumptuous production famous for its vast, specially-constructed sets, and one of the first feature films with a synchronized musical score and sound effects soundtrack, Sunrise was one of early Hollywood's most ambitious undertakings. In her foreword to this new edition, Lucy Fischer considers the film as an abiding classic of world cinema.

#1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan reaches new heights of passion and suspense in this thrilling novel that takes readers deep into the California backcountry, where a woman is tormented by visions of a killer. It starts in her dreams. Hideous flashes from a nightmare only she can stop. Images of a murderer stalking the ones she cares about most… Stella Harrison thought she got away from the traumas of her past. Running the Sunrise Lake resort high in the Sierra Nevada mountains has brought her peace, even though she doesn’t truly share her quiet life with anyone. Not even Sam, the hired handyman that notices everything and always seems to know exactly what she needs. Stella doesn’t know anything about Sam’s past, but somehow over the last two years his slow, steady presence has slipped past her defenses. Still, she knows she can’t tell him about her recent premonitions. So far there’s been no murder. No body. No way to prove what’s about to happen without destroying the life she’s built for herself. But a killer is out there. And Stella knows that this time she’ll do whatever it takes to stop him.

Journey To Sunrise written by Tuyet Beatty-Moore and has been published by Trafford Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-01-09 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

As one of the many passages of faith God preordained in my life, Journey to Sunrise is a witness of conviction and gratefulness of a preachers kid (PK) as to the grace and mercy of Christ Jesus. This is a chronological account of how Christ Jesus answered prayers from my heart and prayers prayed intellectually. I had not yet become aware of how God and Christ Jesus had been working in my life from the age of twenty-four, when I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, at which time I lost my eyesight for three months (up to the point of yet another miraculous life-altering event years later). This event caused me to stay in a constant prayerful relationship with Christ Jesus more than ever before. It caused me to build not only a stronger prayer life but also a more humbling and willfully trusting relationship with God the Father and Christ Jesus. Okay, youre probably thinking, arent they the same? Lets see! As God tells us in His Word, there is but one God, none else. Isaiah 45:18, James 2:19, Revelations 1:8 just to reference a few of His scriptures. He is God the Father to all and over all. Alpha, the beginning, the creator of all things, and Omega, the end. God the Son, our living example, Savior, Intercessor, and Comforter. And God the Holy Spirit, our ever present help, our guide into all truth (John 16:13). Each one is distinct and equally necessary and is one as God is omnipresent in our lives at all times (Hebrew 13:5). This was a passage that was a blessing for and to me. Growing deeper into a more humbled, willful, genuine heart desiring an even greater presence of God the Father, my creator; God the Son, Christ Jesus my savior and intercessor; and God the Holy Spirit, my ever present help. It was a daily blessing God preordained for my family and friends chosen to be with me, giving me support and receiving the blessing of encouragement that He had waiting for us all during this critical season in my life. Others were blessed that Christ Jesus allowed to cross my path during that time of anointed rehabilitation of the body and mind and are being blessed even today. To God be all the glory! It is my hope that you will be encouraged by this witness and scriptures that God allowed the Holy Spirit to give me then and now.

Volume fourteen of A Chronicle of Ancient Sunlight. Beginning in the winter of 1940/1 and ending with the uneasy 'sunrise' of peace in 1945, this volume sees Phillip Maddison striving idealistically to hold a balance while lamenting the division and possible total ruin of Europe, as he copes with the day-to-day problems of running the East Anglian farm he has wrested from virtual wilderness. The pattern of everyday living in those years is lovingly evoked: the bomber-haunted nights, the petty profiteering and gossip of country life - all essential, but often unrecorded, elements of the wartime scene. 'The sequence will stand, at the end, as a massive emotional record.' Guardian
