Kundenanforderungen steigen immer weiter, Unternehmen werden vor die Aufgabe gestellt bessere Produkte zu günstigeren Preisen und besserem Service anzubieten. Hierfür müssen sich die Unternehmen auf ihre Kernkompetenzen konzentrieren und die Erfolgsfaktoren Zeit, Qualität und Kosten immer weiter verbessern. Wettbewerbsvorteile müssen gesucht und genutzt werden. Eine Möglichkeit hierzu besteht in der Optimierung der Wertschöpfungsketten. Dies kann zum einen durch intensivere Beziehungen zum Kunden wie auch zu den Lieferanten geschehen.
