Fatigue Crack Growth Behavior Of Surface Cracks In Silicon Nitride written by A. Kanagawa and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1994 with Bridging categories.
Cyclic fatigue crack growth tests of silicon nitride specimens with surface cracks as well as through-the-thickness cracks were carried out. The surface crack length was measured by a surface film gage technique. The fatigue crack growth rate for surface cracks was less than that for through-the-thickness cracks. From SEM observations, more significant bridging was found in the wake of surface cracks compared to through-the-thickness cracks. From evaluations of the stress shielding effect due to bridging based on the measurements of the crack mouth opening displacement, it was found that the crack growth curve determined from the crack tip stress intensity factor Ktip for surface cracks almost coincided with that for through-the-thickness cracks.

Ceramic materials are widely used as components in a great variety of applications. They are attractive due to their good high temperature strength, high wear resistance, good corrosion restistance and other special physical properties. Their major drawback is their brittleness and the large scatter of their mechanical properties. This book describes failure phenomena in ceramic materials under mechanical loading, methods for determining the material properties, and the principles that one should apply when selecting a material. The fracture-mechanical and statistical principles and their use in describing the scatter of strength and lifetime are also covered. Special chapters are devoted to creep behaviour, multiaxial failure criteria and thermal shock behaviour.

Handbook Of Fatigue Crack Propagation In Metallic Structures written by A. Carpinteri and has been published by Newnes this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-02 with Technology & Engineering categories.
The purpose of this Handbook is to provide a review of the knowledge and experiences in the field of fatigue fracture mechanics. It is well-known that engineering structures can fail due to cyclic loading. For instance, a cyclically time-varying loading reduces the structure strength and can provoke a fatigue failure consisting of three stages: (a) crack initiation (b) crack propagation and (c) catastrophic failure. Since last century many scientists have tried to understand the reasons for the above-mentioned failures and how to prevent them. This Handbook contains valuable contributions from leading experts within the international scientific community and covers many of the important problems associated with the fatigue phenomena in civil, mechanical and nuclear engineering.

The new method of surface crack growth calculation under linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM) conditions facilitates the use of stress-intensity factor K (and in particular its ?K range) as a tool to estimate the fatigue life of cracked plates under tensile loads. This is made possible by determining a set of parameters in order to obtain equal ?K values and analogous crack propagation rates in two widely different specimen geometries, a plate and a standard compact type (C(T)) specimen. A comparison of fatigue lives with equivalent crack growth for both types of specimen suggests that in using the proposed procedure, the significance of ?K values in a part-through crack is closely related to that of a through crack in a C(T) specimen.

This book offers a concise introduction to fatigue crack growth, based on practical examples. It discusses the essential concepts of fracture mechanics, fatigue crack growth under constant and variable amplitude loading and the determination of the fracture-mechanical material parameters. The book also introduces the analytical and numerical simulation of fatigue crack growth as well as crack initiation. It concludes with a detailed description of several practical case studies and some exercises. The target group includes graduate students, researchers at universities and practicing engineers.

Prediction Of Propagation For Surface Crack written by Hao Chen and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-05-27 with Technology & Engineering categories.
Fracture damage usually occurs from pre-existing defects or small cracks in service. The fatigue cracks of structural parts mostly start on the surface and expand under the action of fatigue load, which leads to the failure of structural parts in engineering. The initiating and propagation analysis of surface crack is critical for structural integrity prediction of cylindrical metallic components with circular cross section, since these components have been applied widely in engineering. This book is a collection of research methods for predicting surface crack growth. The crack growth circles method is developed for the surface cracks of a round bar subjected to tension and torsion loads. A multiparameter model with fewer shape restraints whose center is allowed to move arbitrarily is built, and the shape change of a fatigue crack is predicted more precisely.

Theory of Viscoelasticity: An Introduction, Second Edition discusses the integral form of stress strain constitutive relations. The book presents the formulation of the boundary value problem and demonstrates the separation of variables condition. The text describes the mathematical framework to predict material behavior. It discusses the problems to which integral transform methods do not apply. Another topic of interest is the thermoviscoelastic stress analysis. The section that follows describes the heat conduction, glass transition criterion, viscoelastic Rayleigh waves, optimal strain history path, and nonlinear behavior of elastomers. The book will provide valuable insights for chemists, engineers, students, and researchers in the field of chemistry.
