Leong and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-04-18 with Medical categories.

Atlas of Selective Lymphadenectomy for Melanoma, Breast Cancer and Colon Cancer emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach combining the experiences of a nuclear medicine physician, surgeon, and pathologist. This is an important reference also for researchers and clinicians who want to become familiar with sentinel lymph node mapping. The underlying thesis in solid tumor biology is that metastasis in general starts in an orderly progression with lymphatic spread first to the sentinel lymph node (SLN) in the nearest lymph node basin. Therefore, the logical approach is to harvest that specific SLN for thorough analysis.

Approximately 400,000 women in the world die of breast cancer each year. In the United States, it is the second leading cause of cancer-related mortality among women, responsible for about 43,000 deaths annually. This issue is dedicated to the management of breast cancer, including new trends in breast conservation therapy, an update of sentinel lymph node mapping, clinical trials and management of the high-risk patient.

Mastery Of Lymphatic Mapping written by K. K. Hunt and has been published by Springer Verlag this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Medical categories.

MASTERY OF LYMPHATIC MAPPING covers the new procedure for testing the lymph nodes to provide nodal staging of breast cancer, melanoma, colon cancer and some endocrine tumors. The currect standard procedure is to remove the entire system of lymph nodes, subjecting the patient to such risks as lymphedema, a debilitating and long-term swelling of the arm. In lymphatic mapping, blue dye and radioactive materials are injected into the tumor. If the cancer has metastisized, i.e. spread to the lymph nodes, the dye and radioactive materials will be taken up by the lypmphatic fluids. Through the use of imaging technology and hand-held gamma probes, the surgeons can determine if the blue dye is in the sentinel (first) node. If it is not, the patient is spared the removal of the lymph nodes. If the first nodes show evidence of blue dye or radiactivity, then the cancer has most likely spread into the nodes and all of the nodes are removed for pathologic evaluation. Because lymphatic mapping is a recently developed technique, most surgeons have not learned this technique during their formal training years. Therefore, it is imperative that a book entirely dedicated to the theory and practice of lymphatic mapping be available. This monograph discusses the preclinical studies supporting lymphatic mapping, the components of an integrated lymphatic mapping program (Nuclear medicine; Surgery, Diagnostic imaging; Pathology; and Data management and evaluation), technical details of melanoma, breast, endocrine, GI cancer, as well applications in the parathyroid, lung, gynecologic and genitourinary areas. Additional dicussions include pathalogic evaluation of the Sentinel Node, training and accredition forlymphatic mapping, and radiation safety issues. The contributors include the top pioneers in the field whose expertise is well established. The book also offers a full-color art program.

Atlas Of Lymphoscintigraphy And Sentinel Node Mapping written by Giuliano Mariani and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-23 with Medical categories.

Although lymphoscintigraphy was originally introduced into clinical routine for identification of the cause of peripheral edema, more recently it has been widely applied for radioguided biopsy of the sentinel lymph node in patients with solid cancers. The procedure is now considered crucial for adequate planning of oncologic surgery in a growing number of cancers. This atlas presents a collection of richly illustrated teaching cases that demonstrate the clinical relevance and impact of lymphoscintigraphy in different pathologic conditions. After introductory chapters on the anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology of lymphatic circulation, the role of lymphoscintigraphy in differential diagnosis of peripheral edema and characterization of intracavitary lymph effusions is addressed. The principal focus of the book, however, is on the use of lymphoscintigraphic mapping for radioguided sentinel node biopsy in cutaneous melanoma and cancers at a range of anatomic sites. The most commonly observed lymphoscintigraphic patterns are depicted, and anatomic variants and technical pitfalls of the procedure receive careful attention. The role of tomographic multimodality imaging is also considered. The atlas will be an excellent learning tool for residents in nuclear medicine and other specialists with an interest in the field.

Management Of Breast Diseases written by Ismail Jatoi and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-02-11 with Medical categories.

In 2002, Lippincott published the Manual of Breast Diseases, edited by Professor Ismail Jatoi. The current book, Management of Breast Diseases, is an adaptation of that manual, with Professor Manfred Kaufmann of the Goethe-University of Frankfurt serving as co-editor. Most of the chapters from the original manual have been either extensively revised or discarded, and several new chapters added. This text contains more material than the original manual, but it is still intended as a basic guide for the wide spectrum of clinicians (surgeons, gynecologists, oncologists, radiation onco- gists, internists, general practitioners) who treat breast diseases, both benign and malignant. To compile this text, we assembled experts from throughout the world. Thus, this text provides not only a broad overview of breast diseases, but also highlights diff- ent perspectives from different parts of the world. Yet, it is worth noting that the management of breast cancer is now largely predicated on evidence-based medicine. Several large, randomized prospective trials have demonstrated the ef? cacy of breast cancer screening and chemoprevention. Other large trials have addressed the impact of systemic therapy, radiotherapy, and variations in local therapy on breast cancer mortality. Many of these landmark trials are discussed in this text, and they clearly have had a bene? cial effect. Indeed, since about 1990, breast cancer mortality rates have declined substantially in most industrialized countries, and this trend is expected to continue in the years ahead.

Mind Maps in Surgery uses a concise and visually stimulating method, Mind Maps®, to teach the reader the main topics in surgery. Each Mind Map covers a particular topic, disease, or condition; and includes the various aspects of a surgical disorder such as its pathophysiology, etiology, symptoms and signs, investigations, differential diagnosis, and management. In addition to covering the major types of surgery, the book contains chapters on the management of acutely ill patients and surgical patients, which is of vital importance for the reader.Instead of presenting the information in seemingly endless, lengthy text, the book is thoughtfully and carefully structured so that it contains only the essential knowledge. It is aimed especially at undergraduate medical students doing their surgical rotations, as a wonderful study aid for their final exams. It is also useful for surgical trainees working towards their membership exams, as well as doctors and nurses in the surgical profession.
