This volume contains nine survey articles based on the invited lectures given at the 23rd British Combinatorial Conference, held at Exeter in July 2011. This biennial conference is a well-established international event, with speakers from all over the world. By its nature, this volume provides an up-to-date overview of current research activity in several areas of combinatorics, including extremal graph theory, the cyclic sieving phenomenon and transversals in Latin squares. Each article is clearly written and assumes little prior knowledge on the part of the reader. The authors are some of the world's foremost researchers in their fields, and here they summarise existing results and give a unique preview of the most recent developments. The book provides a valuable survey of the present state of knowledge in combinatorics. It will be useful to research workers and advanced graduate students, primarily in mathematics but also in computer science and statistics.

Wiener Chaos Moments Cumulants And Diagrams written by Giovanni Peccati and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-04-06 with Mathematics categories.
The concept of Wiener chaos generalizes to an infinite-dimensional setting the properties of orthogonal polynomials associated with probability distributions on the real line. It plays a crucial role in modern probability theory, with applications ranging from Malliavin calculus to stochastic differential equations and from probabilistic approximations to mathematical finance. This book is concerned with combinatorial structures arising from the study of chaotic random variables related to infinitely divisible random measures. The combinatorial structures involved are those of partitions of finite sets, over which Möbius functions and related inversion formulae are defined. This combinatorial standpoint (which is originally due to Rota and Wallstrom) provides an ideal framework for diagrams, which are graphical devices used to compute moments and cumulants of random variables. Several applications are described, in particular, recent limit theorems for chaotic random variables. An Appendix presents a computer implementation in MATHEMATICA for many of the formulae.

Combinatorics The Art Of Counting written by Bruce E. Sagan and has been published by American Mathematical Soc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-10-16 with Education categories.
This book is a gentle introduction to the enumerative part of combinatorics suitable for study at the advanced undergraduate or beginning graduate level. In addition to covering all the standard techniques for counting combinatorial objects, the text contains material from the research literature which has never before appeared in print, such as the use of quotient posets to study the Möbius function and characteristic polynomial of a partially ordered set, or the connection between quasisymmetric functions and pattern avoidance. The book assumes minimal background, and a first course in abstract algebra should suffice. The exposition is very reader friendly: keeping a moderate pace, using lots of examples, emphasizing recurring themes, and frankly expressing the delight the author takes in mathematics in general and combinatorics in particular.

This volume presents some of the research topics discussed at the 2014-2015 Annual Thematic Program Discrete Structures: Analysis and Applications at the Institute for Mathematics and its Applications during Fall 2014, when combinatorics was the focus. Leading experts have written surveys of research problems, making state of the art results more conveniently and widely available. The three-part structure of the volume reflects the three workshops held during Fall 2014. In the first part, topics on extremal and probabilistic combinatorics are presented; part two focuses on additive and analytic combinatorics; and part three presents topics in geometric and enumerative combinatorics. This book will be of use to those who research combinatorics directly or apply combinatorial methods to other fields.

A Geometric Theory For Hypergraph Matching written by Peter Keevash and has been published by American Mathematical Soc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-12-20 with Mathematics categories.
The authors develop a theory for the existence of perfect matchings in hypergraphs under quite general conditions. Informally speaking, the obstructions to perfect matchings are geometric, and are of two distinct types: `space barriers' from convex geometry, and `divisibility barriers' from arithmetic lattice-based constructions. To formulate precise results, they introduce the setting of simplicial complexes with minimum degree sequences, which is a generalisation of the usual minimum degree condition. They determine the essentially best possible minimum degree sequence for finding an almost perfect matching. Furthermore, their main result establishes the stability property: under the same degree assumption, if there is no perfect matching then there must be a space or divisibility barrier. This allows the use of the stability method in proving exact results. Besides recovering previous results, the authors apply our theory to the solution of two open problems on hypergraph packings: the minimum degree threshold for packing tetrahedra in -graphs, and Fischer's conjecture on a multipartite form of the Hajnal-Szemerédi Theorem. Here they prove the exact result for tetrahedra and the asymptotic result for Fischer's conjecture; since the exact result for the latter is technical they defer it to a subsequent paper.

Spectral Radius Of Graphs written by Dragan Stevanovic and has been published by Academic Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-10-13 with Mathematics categories.
Spectral Radius of Graphs provides a thorough overview of important results on the spectral radius of adjacency matrix of graphs that have appeared in the literature in the preceding ten years, most of them with proofs, and including some previously unpublished results of the author. The primer begins with a brief classical review, in order to provide the reader with a foundation for the subsequent chapters. Topics covered include spectral decomposition, the Perron-Frobenius theorem, the Rayleigh quotient, the Weyl inequalities, and the Interlacing theorem. From this introduction, the book delves deeper into the properties of the principal eigenvector; a critical subject as many of the results on the spectral radius of graphs rely on the properties of the principal eigenvector for their proofs. A following chapter surveys spectral radius of special graphs, covering multipartite graphs, non-regular graphs, planar graphs, threshold graphs, and others. Finally, the work explores results on the structure of graphs having extreme spectral radius in classes of graphs defined by fixing the value of a particular, integer-valued graph invariant, such as: the diameter, the radius, the domination number, the matching number, the clique number, the independence number, the chromatic number or the sequence of vertex degrees. Throughout, the text includes the valuable addition of proofs to accompany the majority of presented results. This enables the reader to learn tricks of the trade and easily see if some of the techniques apply to a current research problem, without having to spend time on searching for the original articles. The book also contains a handful of open problems on the topic that might provide initiative for the reader's research. - Dedicated coverage to one of the most prominent graph eigenvalues - Proofs and open problems included for further study - Overview of classical topics such as spectral decomposition, the Perron-Frobenius theorem, the Rayleigh quotient, the Weyl inequalities, and the Interlacing theorem
