Here’s what we know is true. Timmy Milici, a low-level hitter with the infamous Atlanta-based Duplass crime family, ran off with Melody Duplass to Jacksonville, Florida. Olivia Duplass, her mother and head of the Duplass family, was incensed, and put a price on Timmy—a hundred thousand for his corpse, but with explicit instructions that her daughter not be harmed. We know that’s true. Or, at least, we think we do. Sixteen writers tell their versions of what happened those fateful days in this gripping novel-in-stories, brought to you from the team behind The Night of the Flood. Contributors: E.A. Aymar, Sarah M. Chen, Hilary Davidson, Alex Dolan, Rebecca Drake, Gwen Florio, Elizabeth Heiter, J.J. Hensley, Susi Holliday, Shannon Kirk, Tara Laskowski, Jenny Milchman, Alan Orloff, Tom Sweterlitsch, Art Taylor, and Wendy Tyson.

The action, adventure and mystery in the swamp begins with the debut novel of the POACHERS IN PARADISE series, when a professor and a game warden team up to track down a lawless ring of manatee-roasting rednecks running amok in the backwaters of southwest Florida. From that point on, their shared adventures escalate from comical to hilarious and dangerous to deadly, as the two man-hunters go for a wild ride in the wetlands, chasing their quarry through the mangroves, until finally, they come face to face with the armed and dangerous poachers on a remote barrier island. The professor, with his "no guns" philosophy, refuses to carry a firearm, and Sanderson, although an armed and highly competent officer of the law, is precariously outnumbered. Have the two of them come up against more than they can handle? At first it certainly seems so. But the island is full of surprises that rapidly and chaotically shift the upper hand time and time again, until finally, a winning team is determined. Come along for a seriously humorous, off-beat romp in the swamp, loaded with local color and dialect, to find out where the chips fall.

In the sea there are many stories and legends that tell of tales of sea species that are too gruesome for some of us to even imagine. The elders speak of fish from hell. I'm going to tell you an epic story of a sea monster with killer jaws that live in the swamp, the hidden marshes of Florida; this is the story of the giant piranha. This is the story of a carnivorous fish one which doesn't stop until it knows there is nothing left not even a trace of flesh. Maybe their hunger has no quench, maybe they're nature's revenge mother natures way of saying keep out or maybe they just enjoy the misery and pain they cause. This is a recount of a horrific legend one that invades your mind unnerves your senses gives chills to your spine. The beast has caused the deaths of many people; it has tainted the waters so many times that red water in this region only seems natural, taking away every living being from its path. Many people have disappeared in the marshes, was it the piranhas, with their killer jaws, are all the legends real? Innocent people disappear, mourners left without bodies to cry or bury, children left without parents and parents left without children, they all have one thing in common they visited a river, a lagoon, or a swamp in which they did come in, but they did not come out. The elders all speak but no one listens. No one pays attention to what the old people have to say, everyone rule out their stories a dementia or that it's just a tall tale to get attention. Nobody believes in the sea creatures, in the river killers but i tell different I tell you to believe.

The Rural Primitive In American Popular Culture written by Karen E. Hayden and has been published by Rowman & Littlefield this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-11-24 with Social Science categories.

The Rural Primitive in American Popular Culture: All Too Familiar studies how the mythology of the primitive rural other became linked to evolutionary theories, both biological and social, that emerged in the mid-nineteenth century. This mythology fit well on the imaginary continuums of primitive to civilized, rural to urbanormative, backward to forward-thinking, and regress versus progress. In each chapter of The Rural Primitive, Karen E. Hayden uses popular cultural depictions of the rural primitive to illustrate the ways in which this trope was used to set poor, rural whites apart from others. Not only were they set apart, however; they were also set further down on the imaginary continuum of progress and regress, of evolution and devolution. Hayden argues that small, rural, tight-knit communities, where “everyone knows everyone” and “everyone is related” came to be an allegory for what will happen if society resists modernization and urbanization. The message of the rural, close-knit community is clear: degeneracy, primitivism, savagery, and an overall devolution will result if groups are allowed to become too insular, too close, too familiar.
